Cooking white rice is one of the easiest things in the world, if you have a good heavy pot for cooking rice. That, of course, calls for a cast iron pot. Why spend $100 on a rice cooker when cast iron will give you perfect rice every time? One of my challenges during the pandemic is seeing if I can get by with just the dutch oven and this was one of the first videos I watched. Unlike my school days when I probably could have burned water, my rice has been turning out great every time. Thank you!

A beautiful woman taught me how to make rice, when I was in southeast asia. I don't know if i'll ever see her again. But, the rice is still the best.

Omg I feel like such a dunce, never thought of cooking my rice in one of my dutch ovens. I cook every thing in my cast iron & had one dedicated allumium one just for my rice. Well now time to throw it out! LOL Great video keep them coming.

I love that it shaves a good twenty minutes off of the cook time and will be trying it out in my D.O. immediately. I do want to add that you'll get the best possible cooked rice by rinsing it thoroughly until the water runs clear. No one will keel over from foul tasting rice if you don't, but it is better. Also, soaking the washed rice for about an hour before cooking creates the best possible textured grain. Give it a try! :)

But rice takes 20 min no matter what pot you use.

Well, the trick to deliberately add more liquid to the grains of rice. A common way to do so is to use more water - 2 and 1/2 cups of water per cup of rice, instead of just 2. Soak the rice in the pot for about 45 minutes before turning on the heat and bringing it to a boil. Then you use the same method: turn down the heat to low, and simmer it for about 20 minutes.

i used to live in Waikiki and they serve sticky rice everywhere. mahi mahi with rice or eggs and fried spam with rice. i got to love rice. my favorite is hamburger and sunny side up eggs with brown gravy over white rice and side of macaroni salad is scrumptious

Yes, simple and easy. I cook with the fancy Le Creuset pot, which my wife likes. It is just as easy as your method. Thanks for sharing the video. I try this type of pot because the ultimate aim is being able to cook a good pot of sausage rice.

The surface is rougher than Lodge; if you like vintage smooth surface iron you may hate this. I don't find that to be a problem, and this pot performs very reliably. I also have a huge 16 quart 17-inch dutch oven from Bayou Classic; I cooked my Thanksgiving turkey in it last year.

I had no idea how easy it is to cook rice!! This is the perfect vid. Not a lot of long winded bullshit to get to the meat, so to speak. Thanks man. This was great!! Guess what I'm having for dinner? ;-)

This brand of dutch oven has a smooth underside to the lid, with no basting spikes. The lid is made so that you can turn it upside down and use it as a (slightly curved) griddle, if you want.

A beef or chicken broth can be used in place of water. You can cut with water if you do not have enough broth. Myself, I add 1 or 2 tablespoons of olive and a tablespoon of butter when boiling the broth before adding the rice in my Taiwan cast iron sauce pan. I need to find Jasmine rice and try it.

Great vid. I love the cast iron collection. How do you like the Bayou Classic products? Ther is a couple of pieces that they make that I want to get but I wasn't sure of the quality.
