I was out late afternoon yesterday in the Lancashire area on my Aprilia 125 as a new rider with two others. An experienced rider overtook all three of us just before a blind 90 degree left bend. To overtake he had to use the wrong side of the road and then immediately turn hard left returning to the correct side as he apexed the corner. A transit van arrived at the corner coming the other way at the same time. His skill saved him but his judgement to overtake at that point was a bad call in my opinion. As a new rider shortly to do my A licence i have been out lots in car parks, practicing emergency braking and slow speed turns Etc. I have no wish to ever ride like these guys and take those kind of risks, but I do admire their skills for sure. Thanks for the cornering lesson and im enjoying learning a new skill at 54 years and owning my first bike. Best Wishes.

"Expect the unexpected "....how very true. Never assume that the oncoming traffic will not cut the corner or as in our case overshoot the reducing radius bend. 16 months and two leg operations later my wife is still on crutches thanks to the 83yr old using 1.5m of my side of the road on a 25mph bend. Consider trail braking as a basic skill loading your front tyre and suspension just slightly so you are better equipped mid bend if you have to deal with the unexpected. Nice vid and thanks for taking the time to create this series of interesting bike related topics 👍

Great series and worth watching. The biggest advice is “expect the unexpected” as they only need to happen once to spoil the ride and more👍 We need more of this advice that our public roads are not race tracks and need to be treated with respect; track days are so accessible now, so that’s the platform for trying to improve your skills or even better, off road skills👍🤔👌

As usual, very concise information provided in a very straightforward manner. I’ve been riding a while and I learnt something from this video. Thanks again.

In a car, riding the apex (fast or slow) allows you to make very small adjustments (off/on gas, in/out steering) to make corrections. Is this still the case on a bike or do those small corrections require more input?

This is probably a really basic question but just starting to learn how to ride a bike. Does the throttle come completely off while you brake and enter a corner, essentially just using the bikes momentum to get yourself around the corner, or is the throttle still applied and you use the breaks to change speed?
@bennettsbikesocial
@bennettsbikesocial 3 жыл бұрын
When closing the throttle, the bike will slow and if you apply the brakes then do so slowly and progressively while coming off the throttle so you're not upsetting the balance of the bike and therefore making a jolting movement. It's common practice to ensure your braking is over before cornering which is when you can apply the throttle as you exit the corner. With practice, it becomes natural and smoother. Hope that helps.

@@bennettsbikesocial So should your throttle be completely closed when you are slowing down for a corner AND when you are in the corner, THEN start opening the throttle only when you are exiting the corner. OR, are you partially closing the throttle
@bennettsbikesocial
@bennettsbikesocial 3 жыл бұрын
@@SwayJJ It entirely depends on the corner and level of experience but generally speaking you're only off the throttle for a short time between braking and accelerating again.

Accelerating out of a corner, you look at a slow speed, is much preferable to trying to drag a 200KG + motorbike, out of a hedge
