ABOUT BECKET:
Becket Cook was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended Jesuit College Preparatory
School of Dallas. After graduating from college, Becket moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of writing and acting, finding success in both. He eventually went on to become a production designer working with the top photographers and directors in the world on fashion shoots for magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and for ad campaigns such as Gap, L'Oréal Paris, and Nike.
Finding a new sense of freedom in L.A., Becket also fully engaged in his new life as a gay man. He had a series of many relationships with men throughout the next fifteen years.
In September of 2009, Becket met a stranger at a coffee shop in Silver Lake who invited him to his church in Hollywood called Reality L.A. Becket reluctantly agreed to attend the service. After hearing the sermon that Sunday, Becket was utterly transformed by the gospel and gave his life to Christ. He also knew on that day when God revealed Himself to him that homosexuality was a sin and that he could no longer live that life. Becket was more than happy to count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus his Lord.
Becket spends much of his time in ministry speaking at churches, universities, and conferences helping believers (and non-believers) understand this issue biblically, theologically, culturally, and personally. Balancing grace and truth when teaching on this subject is of primary importance. His goal is to challenge the current cultural narrative about sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular by demonstrating through his personal testimony and biblical truths that, yes, homosexuality is still a sin, and that following Christ is infinitely more satisfying and joyous.
He has lived all over the world in major cities such as Rome, Vienna, and Tokyo.
Becket graduated from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University in 2017 with a Master of Arts in Theology.
Becket’s book, A Change of Affection: A Gay Man’s Incredible Story of Redemption, with a
foreword by Francis Chan, published by Thomas Nelson, released July 30, 2019.

I don’t typically ask this, but to the people that read this comment, would you please pray for me? I’m only 17, but I’ve been battling with homosexual desires for years now, and it’s just so hard to fully surrender to god, and to continually mortify my flesh. Rosaria Butterfield says “drive a fresh nail into your choice sin daily”, but the truth is, killing your flesh every day is excruciatingly painful! Especially when you’ve been feeding into it for so long, and almost never denying it.

I have watched over and over, the podcast where Beckett read his mother's prayers. I've immersed myself in Christian testimonies, foundational teachings on the "prodigal" found on KZfaq, and a lot of Elizabeth Elliot on suffering, reliinquishment, and trust. Also Ruth Graham and the testimony of Walt Shepard, Elizabeth Elliot's son in law. I have learned to absolutely believe all of God's promises, I receive them and believe them, God has all power and authority and HE has the final Word not satan. My faith has been greatly stretched. Keep praying, asking, knocking, praising Him in the pain.

As Becket said near the beginning of the conversation that he couldn't believe he was in the dark for so long, same with me and so many others. The difference between walking in darkness versus in the light is stark. Thst is why it is so painful to see our loved ones still in darkness. I loved the prayer at the end, especially Chynna saying we trust the LORD. The LORD was so patient and long-suffering with me, that i can trust Him to continue to work on the hearts of my loved ones because I have prayed for Him to do so, according to His will that none should parish. Jesus' love is like no other. May all our loved ones and lost strangers and enemies come to know, love, and trust Him, in Jesus' name. 🙏 ✝️❤️ 🔥

After years of trying to talk to my adult sons and feeling that it was causing more harm than good, I have turned their salvation over to the Lord. I pray constantly that He will send others to witness to them. That He will do whatever needs to be done to bring them in. And I KNOW that He is able. Can you explain what it is that you are noticing? I am not noticing that and I have been hoping that would happen for Becket. His coming to Christ is such a miracle but he says that he still experiences same sex attraction. We know that when we desire what God hates, it is sin, so I am praying God will remove that from Becket and heal him completely. No doubt Satan tries to oppress Becket because of all the good he is doing for so many people.

We are walking a fine line here. First of all, when Jesus was tempted by Satan, His temptations came from without, not within, because He was perfect. We humans , on the other hand, who have been imputed with Adam’s sin, have fallen, deceitful hearts. Our sins come from within. The Bible’s use of the term desire and lust is the same word. You cannot have a same sex desire that is not sinful. @@cynthiafisher9907

My dad was an “agnostic” when he died. It took me ten years to find peace with it. I think he will probably not be in heaven. A friend told me I can hope that in his last moments he called on Jesus. It’s possible, and I hope it’s so. I don’t think it is likely, though. He was a kind, loving, patient man who loved animals, nature, and children. He was honest and moral and always tried to do the right thing. He just wasn’t sure what to believe about God. I miss him. He was a good dad. I would be overjoyed to see him again.

@@NickGagnon942 The Gospel (Good News) is simple. We are sinners. We have All broken God's Moral Law and our wages of sin is death. Jesus came as a perfect sacrifice to pay for those wages so that we can receive eternal life. The problem people have is they do not think that sin is such a big deal, thus they don't see the need for a Saviour and they don't believe a 'good' person doesn't qualify for instant entry into eternal life with God. To receive this eternal life, we need to first admit we are sinners, we are far from perfect and we cannot earn our salvation. Secondly we need to repent of our sin. Pray for forgiveness for our sinful nature and accept that Jesus Christ is our Saviour and acknowledge that it isn't by our own strength, but only because of Jesus that we are saved. We also then need to get to know Jesus, through studying His Word. Lastly we need to trust Jesus. Without Jesus we are lost. He is our only way to the Father. The giver of Life!

@@NickGagnon942. Because we are sinners . God will not tolerate sin and it separates us from Him. But He provided a way to be made clean or sinless. The Bible says without the shedding of blood , there is no remission for sins. He also gave us the Bible law to obey , knowing it is impossible to follow so we would need Him. He sent His only son Jesus to shed His own blood in our place. When we believe in this sacrifice , and follow Jesus we are made new or born again as the scriptures refer to it. The evidence of our belief is a changed life. As believers God sees us as sinless and we then get the gift of spending eternity with Him. However in this man’s case the commenter is believing that his dad declared his belief in the moments before death ( as the fellow did next to Jesus on the cross) and is now with the Lord in heaven. I hope that explains .

Thanks for the response, Becket. I suspect that there is a meaning to Palm Sunday, 2024, being on the same day as Purim, 2024 (3-24-2024). And today is Greek Independence Day (3-25-2024). That reminds me of what Paul said in Romans: "First to the Jews and then to the Greeks"!

I am walking through this, praying for my children and unsaved nieces and nephews. I highly recommend Stormie O’Martian’s books: The Power of Praying for Your Adult Children and her other books. They are filled with praying scripture and biblical truths over your children and loved ones. Every time I pray with scripture I am so filled with faith to believe for them. This helps me walk out the joy of the Lord and my faith in Christ before them, instead of walking in fear. This is a powerful testimony to them and draws them to Christ.

I had to leave this comment. I'm so glad that Chynna brought out the change that she sees in Becket. I have noticed it too. I even mentioned it to my husband. The first time I saw Becket he was on Focus on the Family--years ago and there were negative comments about how he presented. I defended you, Becket. People can be so mean and rude. Why were they not focused on what God did for Becket? It's very different now. Masculine is the word. Praise God! I pray that you are blessed with a godly wife! I'm smiling from ear to ear! I'm glad that Chynna brought this up and Becket didn't even notice his change.🥲

I remember Becket, you had a friend in ICU? and you were trying to go and see him or something.. and that you asked us to pray. I never forgot that story.. but sadly, I forgot your friend’s name but I know God knows who I’m talking about. I am praying for that friend of yours. Jesus definitely loves him.

This conversation needs to be had over and again amongst believers (and turned to prayer like we've seen here demonstrated, thank you). Christians are called to stand in the gap in this world (this means we hold in tension the goodwill towards others and trust in what people profess balanced with the fruit we discern, and do our part to evangelize/disciple as open doors allow, but then bring it all to the Lord, (trusting in His ultimate work). I am glad to hear firsthand that Chynna is saved; you hear rumors or see soundbytes about people in the limelight, but sometimes not sure, and I am not "in the know" pop-culturally. Never give up on people even if they shut down...

This was, as China prayed "such an important discussion". Our prayers for the salvation of our dear ones is never wasted. We must persist in such prayers, handing over to the Lord any obsessive tendencies, fears, desires for control that we have because it is all a work of the grace of our Sovereign God. I have been led by the Spirit to pray daily for strangers who pass by my home, as well as the "familiar list of petitions" I have for many friends and even more family members who do not appear to walk with the Lord in newness of life. This instruction from the Lord has helped me to leave with Him His plans and accept His timing. I related to every point made in this timely conversation and I agree with China's observation about you, Becket, even though I'm on the other side of the world and have never met you. What a blessing this video was. Thank you both. 🙏❤

Thanks for this vlog it is so relatable. I've been praying incessantly for my love ones most specially for my family members that they will also accept Christ as their saviour and will also know the truth. Some of them are lukewarm and some are buddhist. It hurts to know that not all will be saved but i believe in our God's plan and we just need to be faithful as He is to us.

Becket as a sister in Christ, I can see that you're in the midst of a trying season. The Lord is putting a lot of us Christians in the refiner's fire right now because He needs to strengthen us for what's to come. Us Christians can sense a shift in the world and it feels a bit unsettling. Hang in there and prayers sent your way.

What a timely video. Sunday at church I saw someone who reminded me of a graduate school colleague I had prayed for way back in graduate school but who is not in my life anymore. We had some spiritual conversations and he was at least not adversarial towards me, but described himself as agnostic. Anyway, I was reminded to pray for him as well as another guy from graduate school who was respectful toward me but questioned my faith. Finally, the third friend is a current coworker who I probably have had fewer spiritual conversations with although some. He is one of my favorite coworkers but is lost and sometimes mocking of religious things. I do know some of the hurts he has experienced so I can pray for those, but I know I need to ask God to open all their hearts. I started crying for God to have mercy on them. I used to be more specific and intentional about praying for the lost, but this time I was just in tears to God for them. A few years ago, I learned a friend had died and my first thought was, "I don't know if he was saved." He went to church and was about the ceremony and tradition but I didn't see signs that he took God's word seriously. . He was a tough Italian, New Yorker living in the Bible belt so he was reluctant to really open up about faith. I also am not as direct about asking as I was when I was younger. In my 20s I would actively seek opportunities to share my faith, and now I barely am ready to share beyond the basics if someone were to out right ask. One of the greatest things that could happen in my earthly life would be for my work buddy to get saved. And other than being in the presence of God and my Saviour for eternity, finding out in heaven my friend Walter was saved would be the best!
