I started dehydrating food for wilderness tripping and long term food storage way back in 2004
Here is a video on how to dehydrate bell peppers. Perfect for long term storage or for taking backpacking, sea kayaking, canoe tripping etc.
In this video, 3 lbs of bell peppers, when dehydrated, weighed in at 4 ounces. Here's how to do it!

I just noticed the most Canadian thing EVER. 10:04 when he opens the cabinet door there is a sign that says "For Deliveries Please go to the side door please." Love it! 😅

So cool you noticed that 'eh?! I mainly do woodworking and work from the garage at the end of the driveway. If people come to the side door, I can see them when I'm "At work".. I put it on the front door when I'm in the shop and I know I have a delivery coming. Cool you noticed that. Thanks for the comment, you put a huge smile on my face.

Just had some spaghetti for lunch with a home-made pasta sauce using home grown tomatoes and some peppers, celery and mushrooms I'd dehydrated earlier this year. Turned out great!

The inexpensive tray liners for small pieces like those bell peppers are worth the investment..... makes it VERY easy to remove

Great video. I dehydrated green, red, & orange bell peppers. The yellow peppers had mold on the inside, so I tossed those. I want to dehydrate the seeds!

Hi Joe. Thanks for the video. I came here to see what you call a finished pepper. I dehydrated 6 colored peppers last night for 8 hours but. They looked done but were still pliable/rubbery as opposed to crispy, so I think I'll turn them back on for another 2 or 3 hours. I cut mine smaller than what you did to about 1/4 to 3/8" thick/wide. One thing I'd recommend is to buy some Silicone mats. Makes removal and cleanup a breeze.....

I had dehydrated peppers tonight haha. Looking forward to how you sort out meats. Been thinking about group beef. Was thinking that it might be nice to cook seasoning into the meat and then hydrate.

Yeah, I'm hoping to do a new video along this theme roughly once a week or so on average for now. I'll do some ground beef next time I see a really good deal on it locally. I'll do up some boneless/ skinless chicken breasts as well, that always goes well too.

That works as well. Serves as a solar food dehydrator. Just leave a window down a crack to allow moisture to escape. Works like a charm.

Thank you for this video, awesome! Have you considered a vacuum sealer? (or maybe you already have one of course) It can really extend the shelf-life by years if food is dried.
@JoeOsChannel
@JoeOsChannel 3 жыл бұрын
I have a vacuum sealer but I rarely ever use it. I cycle through my dehydrated foods fast enough that I don't need to worry about vacuum sealing it right now. That said, maybe I'll do a video on vacuum sealing some stuff anyways, just for fun :)

@ch2821

I find oxygen absorbers don’t work long term in plastic bags. I store mine in jars with sealable lids including the oxygen absorber.... lasts for decades this way.

This is just what I was looking for when I Googled how to dehydrate peppers! Awesome video! My question though is when you rehydrate them do they go back to the big size that you originally cut them in?
@JoeOsChannel
@JoeOsChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, they rehydrate very well. I'll be putting on a big batch of green peppers later today after I put away a batch of pasta sauce I just dehydrated and clean up from that.

@@JoeOsChannel You dehydrated pasta sauce? I sure hope you're doing a video on that... how do you reconstitute it? I'm totally new to this so have never used anything I've made... just green onions so far, as I just got the dehydrator a few weeks ago. I would really like to see how you use some of these things... do you have any videos on your Outdoor Adventures where you show how you make a meal? If you don't please do that... I'll have to subscribe!!

@@denisedeleau1131 The dehydrated pasta sauce. I just finished editing the video footage and will have the video uploaded by tomorrow morning. For re-hydrating and using it, I'll be doing a video on exactly that later next week on a backcountry solo bikepacking/ camping trip. I'll be using the sauce I did today along with dehydrated ground beef, onions, mushrooms, peppers etc. I'll be using dehydrated foods for meal making in several upcoming videos from trips I have planned over the next couple months.
