If you do not know how to solder, i recommend looking up a couple how to videos. Equipment can be acquired for about $10 at the cheapest route at HF, but i recommend grabbing the larger roll of solder as you learn to use it.
DONT INHALE OR LET THE SMOKE IN YOUR EYES :)
This is something i do on all of my used harnesses that i recondition. It can/will work wonders for misfire gremlins.
Need any Z32 related parts? DM me on Instagram!

good on you for teaching some people that are not aware of that PTU repair for miss fires etc. but your soldering skills that you said you are not good, it's shocking infact. lol. sorry im a 30 yrs in the trade of being a motorcycle electrician building and repairing bike harnesses and wiring looms, plus custom wiring jobs etc. this may help you a bit to keep the joints slim as possible and neat, when making a none bullet crimped connections buy twisting just stripped wires together and soldering, try stripping the insulation at least twice as long as you did, keeping them flat not twisted yet, then cross them over in the middle of each wire and twirl them around each other in like little coil springs going up the wire on each side. the trick is in stripping the longer strands of the copper wire the joint is very stable while letting go of it waiting to be soldered. also you add the solder to the hot iron tip first so it will penetrate heat into the copper much faster when you tough it to the wire and move the tip back and forwards along the bottom of the wire as you add the solder it's all done very quickly so you don't end up with a blob in one spot by holding the tip on top if you know what i mean. plus your heat shrink tubing will slip over much better and really it should be double heat shrinked over joints because your not staggering the joints you are doing all of them side by side which is not the best way to do it as i can rub through one layer of heat shrink. in saying all this it's all about practice makes perfect in the end. easy for me to say.

Another person informed me of a union and I looked it up and understand. At first I started to stagger the wires, but by the time I ended up trimming some back past the corrosion I forgot to cut farther to not be in the same spot as other connections. Being my first attempt at this doing it "correctly", I have all the improvement to be made🙂 Thank you for the feedback/tips!! I'll do some practicing on my extra wire stash🙏

Great content, I used to solder most electrical wire jobs. However Ive been using Solder Stick they are cheap and makes the jobs faster.

Those are the ones you use the heatgun on right? If so I've got a box of them but haven't got the heat gun😂😅 my torch will work if I keep it back far enough.

Great video, i like to see you learn as you go. your videos are very educational. i still havent done this to my harness yet, (been busy with car audio stuff) but i feel confident to do it now from watching this video. It would of been interesting to see a before and after continuity test on those connections.

I can always arrange for a follow up on the next one I do. I didn't even think of that but I AM pretty electrical-dumb😂 I knew this would be a walk in the park compared to your usual works😎🔥

Yoooo! Hey Caden thanks a ton for uploading this. Working on a intermittent mis on #5. It is so weird. #5 doesnt start missing until the car warms up. I checked my ptu and crank angle sensor connections (no corrosion!) I'm thinking I have to replace the injector. (It has new coil pack & spark plug).
@NedacSnosrap
@NedacSnosrap 3 ай бұрын
Does it go away and come back without reason? If you have a spare ptu I'd see if you could swap it to see if the problem persists. Also check if the ptu is getting warm/hot quickly, as it usually signifies a faulty unit. If you can verify the injector is clicking, and can rule out the plugs/coilpacks id say its likely ptu related. Have you pulled the cas to test if its firing in all positions/injectors? If it had a dead spot it could also cause an intermittent misfire.

Just seen the coil/plug are both new. If you have phase 1(square plug) injectors, I always recommend updating to phase 2. If you do have phase 2, I wouldn't suspect the fuel injectors as they rarely fail in new style.

@NedacSnosrap after work, I'm going to get on that and check these things. It doesn't seem to come and go. It only seems to be working while the engine is cold, and then after about five minutes of idle, #5 gives up. I didn't check the PTU warmth. However, I did notice the crank angle sensor was hot after going for a drive.

@NedacSnosrap I'm not sure, I know the previous owner claimed to change out all the injectors except #5. (He was a noob who dremmeled his way to the injectors but left #5). The one I got to replace #5 is a new style 270cc injector for my 94 z32. Other than that, I'm not entirely sure. Thank you once again man, I would be lost without your videos.

so i did the power balance test. injectors are good. i replaced the coil pack from a good cylinder into the bad one and it’s still not bogging. would deleting the sub harness help? should i do it regardless? i’m hoping its just my ptu connectors are dirty because they are covered with dirt and grime. i haven’t check the spark plugs itself but i’m as lost as one can be
@NedacSnosrap
@NedacSnosrap Ай бұрын
It definitely could. Is your ptu subharness corroded? Before assuming a bad/funky ptu or wiring, id test for continuity between the coilpack connector to the ecu pin for that coilpack. Make sure coil is getting 12v via power and that the signal works from ecu. Ptu subharness delete will eliminate 1 place for error, and is typically recommended in any application.

Does that new style connector come from somewhere idk how to ask or explain sorry! ( how can I get one )

So that connector set/subharness should have been updated for the PTU recall nissan had, and instead of doing everyone's wiring like I did in the video, they made a bandaid jumper harness to make it work for the time being. If yours doesn't have it, it may not have got the recall in time and would be up to you to source/find the connectors. If that doesn't help. Feel free to pm me on Instagram, I should have some subharnesses/connectors available.

so the recall by nissan was to what, upgrade to the newer PTU unit via a “sub harness”? i don’t have the sub-harness and I have the early PTU unit. i also do have some very green nasty corroded pins though. so would i need to replace one of the PTU plugs instead?
@NedacSnosrap
@NedacSnosrap Ай бұрын
You can definitely get by with just replacing the corroded connectors if updating to v2 isn't on the mind. Only if the corrosion didn't make its way into the ptu itself.

@@NedacSnosrap thank you Caden for your replies, I have obtained a whole PTU harness cut from Banzai breakers UK (Paul is awesome I've bought a ton of parts over the last 10+ years) next step is to splice in the plugs and wiring. Luckily I'm a soldering nerd so this should be reasonably easy for me :) Addition: the PTU I'm running was removed also by Paul @ Banzai from a running car so we can rule that out too :)
