Hello my name is David and I show you how to gybe.
Once you can successfully ride in one direction the next step is to turn around and go back the direction you came from. There are many ways to gybe, but we will focus on two of the fundamental methods.
One is changing direction without removing or swapping your feet in the footstraps. So that you are traveling in the opposite direction but on the toeside instead of the heelside of the board.
This is a good way to practice changing direction of just the wing. Reduce your speed as you begin the gybe and increase the pressure on your toes to start the board carving downwind. Once the board is pointing almost straight downwind you should have very little power in the wing, this allows you to release your back hand from the wing and rotate the wing in the opposite direction. Before moving your backhand up to replace your front hand on the top handle. Grab the back handle with your now free hand and engage the wing to help keep you on foil while you complete the 180 degree turn. Even out pressure on your feet, twist your shoulders so that you can achieve the correct angle to return in the direction from which you came.
This process is repeated when going from toeside to heelside except that you carve from toeside to heelside.
Changing direction and switching feet so that you are riding switch stance instead of toeside. The method is very similar to before, but with a few key differences. Before you initiate the turn of the board, remove your back foot from the strap, placing it just above. Point the board downwind releasing power from the wing. Rotate the wing, switch front hands and engage power from the wing. You should now be riding toeside but with your back foot free of the strap. Carefully slip your front foot free of the strap, do a little hop, rotate your hips and switch your feet on the deck of the board. Slip your new front foot into the strap, before repeating the same action with your back foot.
