This video provides a step by step approach on how to perform a mold remediation for small scale mold infestation.
The process involved removing moldy drywall, insulation materials, carpet, padding tack-strips, and other items affected by mold growth.
First the area inspected for mold, then containment barrier and air scrubber is installed to clean the air while remediation is in progress. Mold Remediation process.
Safety gear is worn by individuals working in the containment.
The moldy materials are removed (insulation, drywall, base
boards, tack-strips, padding, carpet)
Structural wooden members are cleaned with detergent solution.
Biocides such as chlorine bleach is not necessary in this
application.
Wood is HEPA Vacuumed to remove mold spores.
Wall is allowed to dry out for 24 - 48 hours
Test moisture content of the wood. If dry, begin to reinstall the new building materials

Mold remediation refers to the methods used to successfully remove building components and items that are impacted by mold or microbial growth. Mold remediation professionals are trained to remove mold growth, clean and sanitize areas that show signs of microbial growth, and perform post-remediation air clearance testing activities. These individuals are recommended when the mold growth covers areas greater than 10 square feet, when mold growth is caused by contaminated water (Category 2 or 3), and when recommended by a physician.
When choosing a mold remediation company, there are several key questions that should be considered. First, is the company certified to perform mold remediation activities? Second, is the company insured and do they carry the right coverage? Third, are workers trained, and do they use safe work practices? Fourth, do they have the proper equipment (air purifying machines, HEPA vacuums, dehumidifiers, etc.)? Fifth, what methods are used to protect the home occupants from mold spores disturbed during the remediation? Is the area contained?

Not in this instance. In most cases testing isn't really necessary. At times doing surface samples will determine if the areas were sanitized correctly.

Is it safe to remain in the house when drywall affected by mold is removed?

If its a small area it should not be an issue. However, larger areas would typically need to be placed under containment with negative pressure during remediation work. Therefore, the contractor may recommend not being in the home while the remediation is in progress. It a case by case type of situation.

Hepa vacuum? Is that the same a a wet vac? 🤔

The HEPA vacuum is a special vacuum used in mold removal. It captures the mold spores do they do not spread into the air. HEPA stands for high-efficiency particulate air. Vacuums equipped with HEPA filtration trap the dirt you can't see, rather than sending allergens back into the air. Vacuum is out of stock. Is there any other Hepa vacs you recommmend for mold removal? We just found mold in our basement rafters and can’t afford remediation so looking to buy an air scrubber and hepa vac to do ourselves. Also, do all scrubbers need to vented outside? Wouldn’t there Hepa filter catch the mold?
