Super helpful, thank you. I'm having issues with sharp right turns and (being in the UK) right turns travelling clockwise on roundabouts. Basically it's not having enough revs and momentum going into the turn and sort of wimping out on the lean angle for fear I'm going to dump the bike in the worst place possible!

About the LED light, it is actually flashing but it's flashing so fast you can't see it, but the camera's FPS and LED FPS have a different frequency and one camera frame catches LED on and the next catches it off. This is why you see it flash on camera. Still, good advice on the clip, takes practicing but at least we know what the steps are.

Thank you for this video! It is exactly what I was looking for. I’ve dumped my bike in this exact situation, right turn from a stop on a hill, not giving enough power and not leaning enough. When I didn’t dump it, I tended to go wide. It’s the street I live on so I better get good at it! Also, I have a manual 250cc and an automatic 450cc. Should I start with the 250 because of the clutch? And then is there any other trick for doing it on the automatic? Give it power more gradually? Thank you for the advice!

That is good advice. 99% of the time, my right foot does not come off the peg. I also ride a BMW (used to have a HD RK) but I find that practice of not putting my right foot down more efficient, safer, and looks professional. Rarely do I "duck walk" the bike also. I stop the moment my left foot touches the ground 99.9% of the time. I can also go so slow and yield the right of way to others so that I don't put my feet down at stop signs unless I see a COP. Practicing these techniques is noticeable on the street to both MC riders and auto drivers. Thanks for sharing!

There are times "shorties" like me have to resort to right foot down for stops. This happens due to road camber/ slope....where the right side is higher. On such instances, using left foot (the lower side) could probably spell a drop of the bike to the left, despite all the butt shifting to the left prior putting left foot to the ground. Have practised very gentle squeezing of the front brake in anticipated stops towards the end of the stop and keeping handle bars straight. Resist grasping the front brake to avoid front forks from 'diving' .

Right turns on a hill are my absolute kryptonite. I've dropped my new bike 3 times in the past two months and all of them have been making a right turn on a hill. I've been stopping, turning the wheel to the right, and foot braking, and then letting off the clutch. The problem I have with that is if I give too much throttle, I overturn the bike. Not enough throttle, it stalls and dumps. Thank God for sliders. :)

SenSei Well done! Newer riders need to practice this a LOT! A left turn is easy because the foot is down and the bike is already leaning to the left. The right is tougher because the bike may be leaning to the left before getting rolling and turning to the right. This can be a weird feeling for newer riders to get used to. Great video! 🙌👏👌✌🖖🤙👍👋🙂

Pay attention to this guys. I broke my leg practicing this maneuver the wrong way. I either was going too slow, or I stalled. I fell over faster than you could blink you eyes. I was wearing over the ankle hiking boots, but it wasn't enough protection. My leg was beneath the pavement and bike frame. Broke the medial malleolus. Just got out of cast yesterday after 8 weeks. Couldn't ride, ruined my whole summer. I've installed crash bars on the motorcycle and I bought motorcycle shoes with foam padded ankle cups while recovering. Hopefully that's enough to prevent another injury. New rider BTW, just took the MSF brc late June.

This GS has the "Hold" feature, which means you don't necessarily have to hold the bike with the rear brake, but I don't really like to use it. Once bike is on "hold", especially on a hill, it requires a lot of throttle to get it to move and go off "Hold". And when it does - it sort of jerks forward. So this technique with rear brake is what I do - works best for me. Thanks again for the excellent tip!

It is also worthwhile to learn to hold the front brake and modulate throttle and clutch and front brake release to get going on a hill. I ride a fairly heavy bike, BMW K1200LT, and when my wife is aboard and there is any wind at all, it is very tricky to hold the bike with just one foot. I generally put both feet down at a stop so that if my wife shifts position or I get hit with a gust of wind from the left I don’t start to tip to the right and have to get my foot off the brake quickly to catch it. It is just easier to hold with the front brake and then start out by engaging the clutch enough to hold position and then add throttle as the front brake is slowly released and more throttle and clutch fed in. It does take some practice, but isn’t a superpower once learned.

Keep your foot on rear brake a little to stabilize the motorbike, combine more throttle with half clutch, while taking the curve use the rear brake less and you will automatically speeding the curve. That's why we are hearing the sound of reving. When taking the curve, move your body to the left for balance. And very important: don't look down, look at the horizon!!! The main problem in this is: we are thinking too much. Practice is the issue, the rest will go more automatically. With other words: "Shut up and practice".

I guess it depends where you live. Here we ride on the left side so a U turn to the right is normal for us.

You call that a hill? Come ride around Pittsburgh. Lol What gets me sometimes is stopping and starting out on hills where the ground is running high to low from left to right or vice-versa. The horizon plays tricks on your eyes and you kinda have to just feel for the bike being completely level. Especially when taking off into a turn. Thanks!

I noticed that in all these manoeuvres the handlebar is always straight. Wouldn't it be easier if the front tyre was facing where you want to go?

You know how they have like free community yoga classes in some gyms and whatnot? How epic would it be to have similar things with skills practice on bikes. Just a full parking lot of people….well….maybe not a full parking lot but you get the point.

Why don't you look over your shoulder before you make a turn? If you drive like that in The Netherlands your got hit by a car if you're lucky.
