SO who better to show us HOW to shift gears in a column shift manual, than a guy who learned to drive in a C20 Vanette! Yep, Ken drove a manual C20 long before he started driving a regular stick or auto, so here he shows us how it's done. I'm so impressed, cos I couldn't even find 1st gear that day, lol!! Join us for this FIRST drive of the C20!! And my pants are wet cos I leaned on something wet, really, honest!! :P

OMG this is so legit nostalgic. Even as a kid, the aunty drives this van fetch the school kids back home at the same thing seeing the driver playing with it is just mesmerizing.

My ‘91 Nissan has the exact same column shift pattern. So fun to drive.. and even more fun to see the look on people’s face who don’t know what the heck it is 😂

Since very very long time the engine not singing this happily. Yes. This old workhourse is happy. So many memory when listen how it growled under ken hand. This just like how my dad drive it

Brings back memories man, i grew up all my life with my late father's toyota liteace vans, first one was a 1985 toyota liteace petrol with column shifter like this, used to play with the 4 speed column shifter ....when i was small

My mother told me she used to get her driving licence by driving Datsun 1200 (B110) back to the 70s. And my father had his Datsun 120Y (B210) during his 40s and later changed to Nissan Sunny 130Y (B11) for a bigger and more comfortable drive. The aircon ventilation from this C20 reminds me of my father's B210, which is very similar, with all the control knobs all next to the ventilators. And if possible, please source for Datsun 720, the father to all the compact pick-up trucks, including Frontier and Navara, needless to say, Hailux which is common on our roads.

When C20 Vanettes were still new on the market, there could've been shift pattern prints or decals being pasted near the column or dashboard.

I 1st learn driving in my dad c22 vennete...this one much older..can b bit fun by spinning it rear tyre in 2nd gear is a mid engine rear wheel drive just like sport car lay out...haha

I drove a column shift van before..once you mastered it.it is actually more easier to drive than floor mounted gearshift.. your hands is always near the steering wheel.As long you make sure all the bushes are in good condition it work a treat.. I'm jealous here actually 🤣🤣

I’m in early 40, I drove 1.6 Mitsubishi L300 5 speed column shift van daily for 2 yrs when I was 21. First gear and reverse gear can be tricky at times, cannot engage, u need to use another gear half clutch force the van forward a bit and try again

@@ChrisWeevilGarage U will surely able get used to it within an hour or so driving it. The main advantage of the column shift for me was: it free up an extra middle seat to let my gf (now wifey) sit close to me while driving 😆

nobody learn this way of shifting gears anymore. C20 are prone to wear out pin shaft holding the gear engagement. Once the holder hole gets bigger, you can't engage 3rd gear. trust me.
