So what is the best route to drive around the island of Oahu? You can't actually drive around the entire island, but there are some nice drives that can take you around most of the island. Here is my recommendation to driving around Oahu in one day to see a lot of sites and avoid the major traffic: Waikiki to Hawaii Kai to Kailua to Kaneohe to Kahuku to Haleiwa to Wahiawa to Pearl City to Kaneohe to Honolulu to Kapolei.
オアフ島を一周するにはどの行き方がベストであるか?
ワイキキ→ハワイカイ→カイルア→カネオヘ→カフク→ハレイワ→ワヒアワ→パールシティ→カネオヘ→ホノルル→カポレイ

Yes, ALWAYS go counter-clockwise when you’re doing a loop around Oahu. Everyone is pouring into town in the morning and out of town in the afternoon. Counter clockwise direction gets you away from that!

All good advice. We like to stop at Shark Cove for lunch at North Shore Taco's. Not only the best shrimp tacos on the island, they come with an amazing view. I hate leaving this place! Then explore Sharks cove.

I would deff go all the way up the west side all the way to Ka Ena point... personally my favorite beach on island.. as its uniquely rural and less ppl...

Thanks for the video. Planning a motorcycle ride around the island next week during our visit, thanks for clarifying the route. I was assuming you could go all the way around, this helps understand that it is not possible on the North Western side.

We just got back a few days ago from spending a week in Oahu. We stayed at Haleiwa North shore. I highly recommend driving out the south western side to the end of the road. Amazingly scenery! Also there’s a “Jeep Trail” that leads to Ka’ena State Park at the western tip then continues around to connect back to the paved roads. Take a dual sport or adventure bike on this route or a Jeep. Or head west on the North Shore, out to the tip, and back around. Next time I’ll avoid Honolulu all together. Best snorkeling and volume of fish is Shark’s Cove. Check my video I just posted. We rented a convertible Camaro, but it rained every day 😢

Can you make a video more in depth about the weather in Hawaii? I know it’s warm and humid, which I love, but how often and what months of the year would you expect the heavier rain? And I know the hurricane season isn’t as bad there typically as the Caribbean, but what have your experiences been during hurricane season? Tsunami warnings? Vog? I am in the process of getting my healthcare license in Hawaii and have not been able to find much of what to expect as far as that goes. Most people just say something like, “you gotta know it’s HOT here!” Thanks! I love your content, trying to remember to thumbs up each one... haha

Thanks for the video idea. I'll add it to my list. Typical weather is highs in the 80's, lows in the 70's. But I can go into more detail as to what to expect on a more yearly time scale. Good luck with the move.

Yes, you should go the Kunia way to Waipahu then to Kapolei. I haven’t been back home in Hawaii since 2016 when my mom passed away. I grew up in Kaneohe, Honolulu, Kalihi outside Fort Shafter. Then when my dad came back from Vietnam we went to Colorado for just six months until my dad transferred back to Hawaii for humanity purposes for his dying mother. Then we lived on Schofield Barracks just outside of Wahiawa. I spent the next 4 years living on Schofield Barracks and would jog up to the Big White Cross going to the Lululei passage. Now they’ve closed it for all public folks. I used to drive my family around the Oahu when I was stationed at the Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station 3 different times during my career. Boy those were the daze.

I was stationed at lualualei naval ammunition depot with the Marine security detachment in the 60s. We used to man the gates and other guard post on the base. I stood many watches as a gate sentry at kolekole pass and at the main gate leading into nanakuli. About a quarter of the way down from kolekole pass there was a sentry post made of concrete. There are no lights from the gate at kolekole to the admin building and the front gate on the base. On a moon less night it can get spooky at the sentry post down the hill from kolekole pass. There is hardly any traffic from about 8 at night till the morning so it can get pretty spooky then. I remember doing a lot of singing at that post late at night. Lol, I hope I didn’t wake up anything or anybody with my singing.

Thanks for the ride. Heading your way in May. Basically, we would head to route 83 to 99 from Honolulu, correct? Also, would you recommend doing this drive during the week vs. weekend? Lastly, can you recommend a site that would give a more detailed idea the best places to stop along the route in addition to those you suggested? Thank you.

We don't use route numbers so I actually had to look up the route numbers to understand what you're talking about. If you head that route, you'll be going up to the North Shore from the east side and back into Honolulu through central Oahu. I think weekdays are best, but I think it's more important to pick the right time of day. Traffic can definitely slow down your commute. There are so many places to stop on this route. Make sure to stop for food, shopping, and sight-seeing. Sorry, I can't make specific recommendations, as it depends on what your interests.

Thank you so much for the video! We are heading there in a few days. We would like to include some hiking first and then snorkeling along the way. What would you recommend as the first hike and where for snorkeling? Thank you so much for your help.

Diamond Head and Makapuu are pretty popular. Make sure to bring water. Snorkeling not sure. I heard Hanauma Bay is very nice these days, but it reaches max capacity early so you'll have to go early. Have a great trip.

Mokuleia on one single day trip. All day adventure. Get your plate lunches and bento boxes in Haleiwa on the way 'Out There'. 'Out There' at the beaches of Mokuleia. Sit in the tub-like natural reef rock formations that are like "soaking cups". Walk miles of white sand. Take dips (bring a mask and snorkel) intermittently while walking. Take a large beach sand mat and bring heavy thingees to hold it down (Windy). 6-packs of canned drinks work good. When everyone is at work on a weekday, like Wednesday or Thursday (ideal). It can be deserted there; it's far off and away "from everything" (a very long drive). When no one is there, the place has a feeling. Cannot describe. It is vibrating with mana if you 'listen' quietly (go blank). Owls inhabit the mountain ridges. As a kid we called Mokuleia the "End of the World".

If you have access to Schofield Barracks, drive up to Kole Kole Pass and down the other side. The drive down the other side has to be one of the most scenic in the world.

Not anymore. The Army shut down this passage awhile ago. Only military personnel on combat training can have access to this place.

Hi, thanks a lot for this video just one request. Can you mention the mid destinations that we should be keeping in the maps to go on this route.. eg starting from waikiki .. keep the address as hanuma bay.. then next lanikai beach.. and then what to keep following this loop ?
@HelloFromHawaii
@HelloFromHawaii 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you want to do. From Lanikai, I guess it would be natural to head north towards North Shore. You could get garlic shrimp and then go to Haleiwa. Then from there, you could drive south and head west to Kapolei to see the sunset. Then drive back east to Waikiki at night.

Can you drive around without getting on a major highway in Honolulu?
@vedicaudio
@vedicaudio 2 жыл бұрын
Don't ever attempt to do this drive in one day. You'll be in the car all day! Get out of the car and do a hike! Traffic on H1 West is already pretty brutal at 3 pm. There are thousands of other people trying to "beat the traffic." Better to do the loop one day and hit the west side on a separate day. You'd actually have time to hike out to Kaena Point on that dirt road.

Except that it's probably the most beautiful part of the island. Just use basic precautions. Be polite, don't leave valuables in plain sight, and don't be hanging around after dark, like most everywhere else in the world.
