How to Eye Splice 3-Strand Rope

This series on ropework should give you all the information you need to impress the rest of the deck crew, and make the most of the ropes you have on board.
When it comes to superyachts, everything needs to look just right, and tying bowlines in the ends of all your 3-strand rope doesn’t quite fit the picture. In addition, it actually reduces the strength of the rope.
So, grab your splicing kit out of the bosun’s locker, and follow along with these 3 strand eye splice instructions to get all of your three strand rope looking it's best.

Been through quite a few splicing videos and yours is by far the most detailed and easy to follow step by step video on KZfaq. Thank you for numbering the strands and marking point “A” and “B” 😄🙌🏻

@@WorkonaSuperyacht Agree it was very clear. I'd suggest using a mid tone background for black rope because the contrast makes it difficult to see - it was magically clearer on the wood background!

I agree. I've been through several videos and failed attempts. I can't try again at the moment, but I have no doubt that I'll succeed next time thanks to the clear instructions about strand #3, "over one and under the next", how to do the taper, and many other little gems sprinkled throughout this video. Great job.

Excellent video, clear and well explained. Maybe using a pointer to indicate details rather than a finger would also help. I have no desire to work on a superyacht but these skills are invaluable. Thank you.

What about a end splice? Do you have a tutorial on that?

The high contrast of the black rope against the white background resulted in a lack of detail of the rope making it very difficult to see exactly what you were doing. When you filmed against the background of the cutting board it was very much easier to see the detail of the rope. I think it would have been better to make the entire recording against the background of the wooden cutting board. I have watched dozens of "eye splice" videos and I'm still no closer to success. I just can't get past those first three tucks.
