Excellent video! Very helpful. Thank you for ALWAYS giving such great advice. Wondering if it would be possible sometime in the future to show the food before it is placed in the tank. This would allow us to see, for instance, if the stick food is too large, etc. Again. I greatly appreciate you and your wife's video channels! Don't know how this first year of fish keeping would have gone without you! Very grateful!! 🐠

This video has really helped me out. I used to quarantine fish all the time because they started to lose weight. When you first get into the hobby, you don’t think to much about the food. But it’s an essential step, especially when you have multiple tanks with different types of fish.

This is an excellent video. I don't think I've seen these great tips put forth so simply anywhere else. 💖 I kinda figured out the feed the larger fish first thing on my own recently. I have guppies, just a few tanks. I was feeding frozen baby brine shrimp and noticed the adults gobbling up so much of it. I decided to try mixing a cube of frozen baby brine with a cube of frozen daphnia. The Daphnia are a bit bigger and the adults go for them very quickly. That leaves more of the baby brine Shrimp for the juveniles and fry. One other tip I've found incredibly useful is from Cory at Aquarium Co-op. He said to feed for the smallest size fish in your tank. Bigger fish can generally eat smaller food, but smaller fish have a harder time eating larger food. So that technique plus your tips of feeding larger food to the bigger fish first and then feeding smaller foods seems like the perfect winning combination for feeding tanks with multiple sizes of fish.

I missed it. Was that one or two shovels full of flakes in the 125? LOL So used to sparse feeding amounts for neons in a 20 long. My 20 long was covered in algae so I added one 2 inch clown pleco. Thought no way one could keep up, but after 5 days all algae was gone so I'm adding pleco wafers at night. Good video...good info.

Hope they get their sales up, by all these "adds" so the price can be lowered. It does sound very great. Been compareing with other brands, hard to tell the base quality of the ingredients. However they give about equal %protein and such. But none claim quality items other then north fin :)

Depends on the size of the tank as well. If the tank is big enough (usually around 10 gallons to be safe, you might be able to add non-aggressive, fast-moving smaller tetras or rasboras.

Try going CPDs. They are perfect size not to intimidate your betta but also big enough not to get eaten. They are full of energy (but not mental like say barbs) and with just a touch of luck, they will make babies. CPDFTW :-)

I have 3 fantail goldfish, 12 harlequin rasbora and Steve the bn pleco. My goldfish will eat Steve's food even when the tank is pitch black. I now have a space behind the sponge filter where i put some of his discs. I also feed him during the day with algae pellets after the goldfish pellets and he has learnt to come out when they are being fed. I have a feeding diary to make sure i rotate different food though out the week and log water changes, filter cleaning ect. This works great for me as i can never remember what day i did what 😳

Hey Jason, since I have a nano tank, and small Endler fishes of about 1/4-1/2" I've been feeding them the slow sinking micro pellets. My fish do not like or eat the Flake food. But even the mini pellets are too big for their littlest, tiniest mouths. Tried dried bloodworms, too. BUT, they 'no likey.' These little Endlers are making me work for it, I'll tell you. Suggestions?

I know Northfin has a 0.5mm and a 1mm micro pellets that is very small. You could also look at "fry food", which is finely ground fish food? Also, if you want to get into live baby brine shrimp - no little fish can resist that! :-)

I'm sorry to hear that. Peas sometimes help and if they don't it's often necessary to give the medicated food (antibiotics). Lots of people try to prevent it by feeding pellets that sink so they are not gulping air while eating too.

I rescued some goldfish from a badly maintained tank. One had very bad swim bladder issues. I fed boiled peas popped out of their skins. Then I fed them gel food. Back then I had to make my own gel food out of vegetable baby food and gelatin, but now there are brands like repashy that make balanced gel food diets. The combination was what got my fish through swim bladder issues. After that I only ever fed them defrosted frozen fish food (a combo of vegetables and shrimp), though I'd consider soaked (in tank water in a container for a bit before feeding) flake foods or sinking (not floating) goldfish pellets once they were fully over all swim bladder issues.

Great info. I'm doing my first community tank with a betta, a school of neon tetras and a kulhi loach. So far everything has been great except for feeding time. The betta tries to eat everything. To the point he becomes bloated and I have to fast the tank for a couple days. I've tried to feed him his food first, then the tetra and loach afterwards but he never seems to get full. Any suggestions to prevent this or slow him down? Feeding him before slows him down, but he still consumes most of the tetras food. He isn't aggressive, but I think they stay away because he's the biggest in the tank so I'm concerned they're not getting enough. I'm not sure how well the kuhli eats because he hides until after dark, but I know its getting some food.
@PrimeTimeAquatics
@PrimeTimeAquatics 2 жыл бұрын
You could try crushing the flakes a little more? It will take him more time to get to the food and give the tetras a chance to eat too.

I have used both extensively. Northfin is more expensive, but it is also a better food. I'm basing that on four things - ingredient list, the amount of swelling the food does after it gets into the water (less for Northfin), water condition after feeding, and how much the fish like to eat it.
