Hi everyone! In today's video, I talk about how to find an artist or a writer for your manga, comic or graphic novel. One of the most difficult aspects to creating a manga is when you have a story you want to get drawn, and yet you can't find a writer. Or when you want to draw a manga, but don't have someone to help write it. I hope that with the tips in today's video, you will be able to find the perfect person to work with you, and use that help to bring your projects to life. 😊

I get that manga artists working slave labor hours at slave labor pay is a bit of a dark humor joke at this point; but let's not forget the age-old saying: "Be the change you want to see in the world.". If any of you hire an artist to help bring your vision to life, please consider the time they are willing to dedicate to helping you; by tediously drawing images for a story they probably don't care about (or at least no where near as much as you do). That story may be your baby; but to them, the illustrations is just a job. The only way to make them interested enough to put in good quality work, is to pay them well. Such talents and sacrifices (in my personal opinion) are deserving of a fair financial compensation. - It may take them multiple days to map out how to position characters in shots/panels that they need to draw; plus countless hours of reference research online to ensure they draw that gun, plane, animal, machine or whatever, correctly. THEN, there's the drawings themselves. Depending on how detailed you want the work, and if you want detailed background settings, a single page could take 5 to 10 hours to draw and ink. Imagine all that work for a single page, 10 hours of your Saturday spent nose-deep in a drawing, and your compensation is 10 bucks. .... ? ... Better off working part-time at Burger King.

Yo, I used to be a writer but I quit to draw. Im a pretty good drawer on paper but recently I've started drawing digitally to enhance my drawings, im not the best at it yet so choosing me would be a gamble, but im willing to try my best and get better along the way, and obviously I would work for free.

I'm also looking for tips on the types of brushes I use for digital art, I use Medibang and I use a 4.1 pen but idk what tools for digital art everyone uses.

Hmm I think it depends on each program. I don't personally use Medibang. It might help if you look up Medibang tutorials on KZfaq, and see what brushes they use 😊 However, I personally recommend you try a lot of brushes, and choose one that suits you the best for your own projects!

I personally use Procreate on the iPad, with mostly the default brushes (Peppermint for sketching and Studio Pen for line work). I used to use Medibang but I can't remember what I used.

My project was going to be adapted into a film but I decided to make it a manga first since I realized my project "SURROUNDED" works well with the narrative for the manga and the storyboard. SURROUNDED is a story about a Asian/Italian model, Delilah Watanabe who is used on a research case and human testing without her permission by one of the doctors who was going to proceed a plastic surgery on her but the clinic turns out to be scam and no matter how much she tries to find a way out she has no idea where she is. The scientists, researchers, and doctors are manipulated by the boss and the doctor who was going to do the surgery on Delilah which shows why they are against animal testing and do the testing on humans. They believe that humans are cruel nowadays and want to look beautiful no matter what way as long as it makes them famous and rich. She finds the girls she saw months before her surgery who are in extremely bad condition and what hurts her the most that she finds her sibling there. The manga starts off with Delilah gaining cautiousness making her realize that she is on the floor and isn't in good condition, he health is at risk and she sees an elevator in front of her. Her eyes blurr before passing out again and she sees flashlight shown into her eyes by the police officers. They take her to another hospital and after few hours she wakes up. The doctors and the police officers from before investigate her and ask her questions regards to what has happened where she was and she begins to explain and tell what she witnessed there. The doctors don't know that the girl who is with them isn't the real Delilah as it turns out to be her clone and the real one is still hidden somewhere in the clinic. At the end she becomes a motivational speaker and encourages others that everyone in the world is beautiful and don't need beauty change. I wanted to make surrounded onto 2 part films. I did art as GCSE but I was never this good at drawing manga, I can only do realistic and I wanted to get an artist and see if they like the idea of pitch for them. I do filmmaking at college and aspire to be a director. I would be willing to pay £50 or free collaboration. I'm a writer looking for an artist i pretty much need a lot of work done but i have designed every character in my story and i managed to give them all unique and different looks based on what they're based on (ill get to that). The length of my series is going to be very very long as the whole point of it is one persons life as he grows up (again ill get to that). The name of the story is called "A Fallen God" and is about a young boy who essentially is half god who grows up like a human he is incredibly skilled and well versed in combat and can use any thing he can physically use aa a weapon. He is exiled from basically from his home because his mother committed adultery which in there eyes in punishable by death. As he grows up he learns about what he is and what he is capable of as he is in his entirety this story contains other gods who are specifically designed for their own purposes they all have unique and interesting powers and looks. There are 3 antagonists the brother of the protagonist who is corrupted by a demon, the protagonists uncle who is corrupted by a dark power and then he made demons with this power, and finally the protagonists grandfather who is basically a narcissist of his race and thinks that every other race should work for them as slaves. The main protagonist is the most powerful being in existence it doesn't matter what or who anyone is he's strong enough to take down anything and smart enough to out clever others he's taken out countless people who started a problem with him but this strength is not without its faults he can't control it nearly at all which is a huge downside but he can control very small part of his strength but even at that point he's still able to destroy entire realities with a flick of a wrist. The main protagonist is not a bad guy at all in fact he eventually starts a family with one of the last remaining female goddesses in existence and she is by no means anywhere near his level but that's the thing he doesn't care about strength he believes that what makes a person strong is their willpower and she has more willpower than anyone he's ever met. Thats all i can say for now because that's actually spoiler free for what i have planned

Thanks for the information. Recently I have been writing a novel of mine. However, I am new to writing. Thus, I was wondering since I am aiming to convert it into manga one day, do I have to focus too much on writing skills and quality as if I am publishing a standalone Novel, or I just need to focus on writing the main streamline of the story and main events?

I think if you are writing a novel first, focus on making it more novel-like. You could even write it as a light novel, as that has more simplistic styles than normal novels. I'd recommend you start with just writing a novel first, because then you can see how people like the story. In the future, you can then adapt that novel into a manga. 😊

I have many projects in the works I am a writer and need artist. The manga I would to get made is a comedic horror anthology that inspired by tales from the crypt , Simpsons treehouse of horror are you afraid of the dark and in some cases mystery science theater 3000. The main character is the spirit of story telling and he tells stories to those whom need to hear the message of the story his typewriter tells an he is trying to escape the hunted house where he and his typewriter are residing. Another story I’m working on is my light novel series I call video land adventures the main characters of the story are descendents of legendary Irish heroes and poets and use song and poetry as part of their spells to cause storms or change aggressive energy into positive or positive into negative the whole music sooths the savage beast is a big theme in it also the main character are geeky people and love video games and comics.

I’m a writer currently trying to write a Shonen manga, but can’t draw. Midnight X Cross My story is about a boy wanting to join an elite agency (inspired from the person who had saved him in the past) but can’t due to him being apart of a race that is being discriminated by the normal humans on the planet. So he has to find a way to become an agent and shake off the bad stigma that his ancestors had set in stone for him many years ago

I think in order to write a good synopsis from this, you need to focus on the most important aspects of your story that make it very different than other stories in that genre. Some unique aspects of this description seems to be him being a part of a certain race of non-humans, and the fact that he is working to become an agent. So a synopsis you could write for this, just for example, might be: Ever since Boy have been saved by P in the past, he had always dreamed of joining the Elite agency, a group of people determined to (fill in the gap). However, due is his origins, and the fact that he belonged to a race of beings unaccepted in the human world, he was discriminated and left on the sidelines. Determined to (insert MC's goal here), Boy struggles to find a way to stake his place on the world, all the while trying to remove the bad stigma that had been placed on his family centuries ago.

I am a writer looking for an artist. What i envisioned is the classic black-and-white manga artstyle (not cutesy, but not dark either and not exaggerated or hyperstylized), with a focus on character details (Blast of Tempest, Hell's Paradise, and Bungo Stray Dogs are good examples). I'm not sure about the exact length of the series (this is the first time i try to embark on a project like this, usually i write novels, so i don't have a way to tell with precision), but it's gonna be fairly long. The ideal would be a prolonged collaboration in which profits are split (so shared royalties, basically, since we would make the manga together as writer and artist), but in alternative i have a budget of up to 100$ per volume (around 20-30$ per chapter) at least for the beginning. The series is called "Regalia", and it's a supernatural gangster/crime story, with heavy focus on various characters' psychologies, backgrounds, and motivations (particularly the protagonist, of course). The exploration of the darker sides of the human mind and soul are central. "After a mysteryous phenomenon called "the rain of lights", certain people all around the world acquired supernatural abilities: the regalias. Soon after two factions arose with the goal of using such individuals, each for their own benefit: the Chimera Syndicate, a criminal organization, and the International Defense Agency, which gets paid to deal with the misuse of regalias. It's been two years since the rain of lights and a clever but depressed 21 year old called Benjamin Corrini, who's life is unsuccesful and tedious, will be dragged in a dangerous underworld after meeting a young regalia user who's in hiding, discovering that he might fit a little too well among criminals and false heroes". game development goes threw the same problems, I can program and have made and fully programmed some unique games, but I really really tried to make any sort of art for them, they all look like bad fat stick men, even when I use blender models they manage to some how hit uncanny valley and fail to be discernible let alone realistic or stylistic. so I never showed them to any one out of embarrassment. lol, if you are starving artist go in to game asset development.

So, my needs are a bit different but I figure it doesn't hurt to check here. I'm already in the works of a webcomic (story and art wise), but I'm in need of a colorist. midnight sensei i am starting to write my own novel so wanted to ask the minimum size of a single chapter and how many chapters are in single volume? this is my novel description: in the year 2058 AD a world were demons run amok there is said to be the demon king or devil who is the ruler of the now demon infested earth and the humans now live in air colonies (cities that float in the air) the boy named homa who has forgotten everything about his past for being given the power to interact with souls and be the host for legendary souls of the past by God, he goes to travel this world in order to defeat the demon king and find the truth about his past i have a lot of amazing ideas including maybe corrupt government, academic life, mystery solving and a final showdown.... so i want to get feedback on the description (the name of the OELN is THE HOST OF LEGENDS i am still writing the first chapter on wattpat) i also want to ask if you have any tips to increase confidence in someones OELN since LN usually have 200 pages and it can sometimes scare me to think tat if my story is long enough

In normal OELN, the word count is about 50,000 words.The number of words in each Chapter can vary, and so can the number of Chapters in a book, so it is up to you how many you choose to create! As long as it is around the word count of 50,000, that is a good number to go by. 😊 I'd personally recommend your chapters should be about 1000-3000 words, and about 18-20 Chapters per book. I love the sound of your novel!! I hope it goes well 💖 I think the best way to increase your confidence is to simply enjoy creating. If you enjoy the creative process, then you can never fail! It might help to also upload a few preview chapters online, to see what others think of it. From that feedback, it might help to motivate you, or to help you know where you can improve certain parts to make it even better. It can also help to chat to other light novel creators, because sharing experiences can be really confidence boosting! It's also good to encourage each other.

Hello, I am a writer looking for an artist. I'm pretty terrible at drawing so you might do most of the work haha. The series will probably be a long serialization one. For now I'm looking for free collaboration then hopefully we can make it big together 😁. I don't have past works I've uploaded but I've written a lot in the past. The name of the story is Paradyse. Day and Reid rival to climb up the Sentinel ranks together, meeting new friends, exploring a vast world and getting stronger. But the threat of a global menace and a mysterious organization threatens their livelihood. (I know it sounds very shonen but I have some really good ideas) 😁

Later when he's walking home he's about to get hit by a horse carriage but a mysterious forse changes the direction of the carriage..

My project is called "Oscar's Life" My friend and I are looking for 2 Designers, 1 Writer This is the first paragraph of the manga: The main character is a high school boy. He does really good for himself and his grades are really good, but he gets overwhelmed with common things. One day he was coming back from school and his house caught on fire. He went inside the house screaming in agony, and he said that everyone was out except his brother because his brother had a heartbeat still but was knocked out, and out of desperation to help his brother, his pupil started glowing blue, then a water shield suddenly came out, and the shield suddenly popped. In my country, it's kinda hard to collaborate even tho i willing to pay them. ( I'm a light novel writer ) alot artist just wanted small amount of commissions ( limited ) Yet, i want to get artist from overseas, but my light novel that i working on still in different language... ( I don't have much time to translate, i really busy writing my second light novel ) I already try to ask publishers that willing to adapted my novel, but they wont search an artist... ( they just want to adapt my light novel into normal serial novel ) and yeah, i declined it because it's not as the same road as my goal...

I'm an author looking for an artist. I've many stories in line, but the one I'm working on is absolutely legend. I don't want to reveal much about it, you can think it as magic and power oriented. It has the taste of spirituality and takes one to the era of Kings and Queens. Yes, it is a story line where the protagonist journeys hunting the revenge, but to unravel many mysteries about his own self and given the ability to liberate the world. I can not draw but I can give the hard sketch of each scene. My ability to ideate and write dialogues, create scenes are from heart's content. Greetings everyone from the Land of Ohio my name is Ron and I am looking for an artist. I am working on my first ever manga. It's called Absolute Zero. The synopsis is there are 2 organizations Absolute Zero and Omega Phoenix. Initially there was only one organization that governed the planet of Fluke. The leaders of the 2 organizations used to be close friends, however their views on how the planet should be ran were polar opposites. The leader of Absolite Zero wanted a peaceful Land where policies were dictated by the people. The leader of the omega Phoenix organization who was genius level smart felt it should be ran with an iron fist. The 2 leaders became so distant that the leader of the omega Phoenix organization staged a rebellion within the original organization and. Massive war broke out. The battle ended with each side claiming their own territory. However it wasn't good enough for the Omega Phoenix leader she wanted more and craved power more then anything. So she began plotting and scheming devising a plan to over take Absolute Zero land so they could rule planet Fluke for themselves. So Absolute zero sent one of their best fighter pilots back in time as the pilot fled planet fluke several omega Phoenix fighters soared after her in their spaceships and a starship battle broke out as the pilot was almost out of reach just as she jumped into hyperspace she was blasted with a plasma blast grenade blaster fire. Her computer systems and thrusters got destroyed and started malfunctioning so she crash landed on Earth to search for the Hero that would Lead the revolution for Absolute Zero to restore peace to the land. That is the synopsis obviously there is a lot more depth and details into the story. I am willing to pay 100 bucks per 60 pages also if you can draw really awesome spaceships that's a plus aswell. I would like this to be a small 4 book manga series since it's my first one. Price is also negotiable to a point. If you find my story interesting and are willing to work for money or for free. Examples: "evangelion" or "after god" mangas (not the same though). It's necessary for the artist to be interested in horrors or thrillers and have many ideas how to scare people from the pages. I'm going to publish it, so we can have collaboration (profits are split), or I can pay around 40$ per chapter for a beginning (it will increase in the future). I think it's important to denote that some characters and scenes are unfinished, I'd like to discuss it with an artist to create creative and cool story, so we have many work before creating one page. The genres are horror, psychology, detective and drama.
