This comment is intended for educational purposes, the proper term is (Refrigerant) “Freon” was used many years ago. And yes, anyone with a hybrid that has an electric driven compressor needs to use R-134A refrigerant with special oil that is non-conductive.
@AJ-ds9xq3 ай бұрын
I called Toyota dealership, spoke to someone In parts and I was told only time they'd change oil if there is work involved like replacing a Condenser, not to refil freon. Also he mentioned if there is a freon leak oil still going to be on the system....

What is the use of this you haven't showed us how to re charge the gas.
@Jeff50s3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sharing! It's better to check to see if your car AC does need refrigerant refill or not. The sight glass bubbling often varies for different cars AC so it's a bit tricky for fresh DIYers. It's better to check the bubbling on start-up and shutdown as well for information as over-fill is the common mistake.

Prius 2012 V, 147,000 miles. AC sometimes stops working while driving. If I stop the car, turn the engine/computer off, and restart, it works OK, and it works long time. Blows cold air again. Any idea?

Recharge cans say not to use on hybrid vehicles

You may need a special type of recharge specifically for hybrid cars*
@mikesabin85685 жыл бұрын
The metal radiator in the front that you are referring to is the condenser. It doesn't make the air cool... Hot gas leaves the compressor and goes through the fins of the condenser turning it to a hot liquid. Once the hot liquid goes through a thermostatic expansion valve or orifice, it turns to a cold liquid. Then the cold liquid goes through the evaporator in the dash which is another radiator inside the dash. The cold liquid becomes a cold gas. then it goes through a receiver dryer so that no moisture enters the compressor. The cool gas is compressed in the compressor and the process starts all over again.
@moviestudioland5 жыл бұрын
Condenser makes a state transition from gas to liquid. This involves compression from the compressor. On the other side is the expansion valve and the evaporator. From liquid to gas is evaporation and this takes heat form the inside of the car. I would suggest you study basic thermodynamics www.servicechampions.net/blog/air-conditioner-works-refrigeration-cycle/

Warn everyone how normal traditional freon will damage the electronic compressor on hybrids. You will need hybrid nonconductive freon.

R134A is not so special. It is not about conductivity, but the oil type: All 2G and 3G Prius use the special ND-11 compressor oil. You can use R-134a refrigerant that does not contain any oil. Oils do not mix!

First of all hybrid electric vehicles should not be refilled by a DIY as explained in the video, unless you want to blow your A/C motor. The gas needs to be vacuum extracted first by a machine and then refilled by the correct amount. (450/470grams) Using a diy bottle you have no idea whats in the car and how much extra gas should you or shouldnt put in. And you cannot tell of the car needs oil either. This method is a receipe for a disaster in the long term

Be careful on the freon for the Prius. I think it is different than the standard R134A. You might need to get special Prius Freon.

No, it takes standard R-134a with no oil or any other additives.

do not use any rechargeable can't you get at a auto parts store. These require a special oil because they use a hybrid condenser for hybrid vehicles. If you use the wrong kind of recharge it will kill your condenser sooner.

How do you jump the compressor with a wire?
@portagepete15 жыл бұрын
All the orange wires are 360 VOLTS with the wrong oil in the system the high voltage can shut down and give you a check engine code. Don't ever jump a hybrid cars a/c pump. this guy should not be on youtube he knows almost nothing.

This is not a technical video. You need to hook gauges up to your ports. You just don't start pumping "freon" as you call it, into the low port. You don't even know where the compressor is. Do some research before you do a video. Disappointing amateurish video.

Bad advice in this video. Dont use refrigernat from the auto parts store. You need special hybrid refrigerant.
@moviestudioland3 ай бұрын
My advice is good. You need to add Freon R134a with ND-11 oil in the freon. I updated the video to contain this procedure. Thanks for your comment. the Hybrid charge is only special as it has ND-11 oil required and can NOT have PAG oil in it.

moviestudioland I own one of those shops lol the crap in those bottles is the same as slim for your bike tire. They all have a sealant that will ruin you’re ac system. If it’s a car you don’t care about use it but if it’s your car do not put that garbage in your car.
