I was fishing yesterday and was skunked. I fish from a kayak and was fishing in aransas pass in some grass flats where some islands are. There was bait every where and I saw redfish tails but could not get any bites even though I changed up my lures(artificial). I fished some near the top of the water and some deeper. I really stumped me. Got any answers?

Thanks for the videos! You guys are awesome. I love the Bing maps but I noticed the pictures are really old when looking at my home turf. Almost 5 years old. I fish in Aransas Pass TX. Am I doing something wrong?
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 7 жыл бұрын
There are times when pictures are either old or the water glare is so bad that you can't see anything helpful. That's when it's good to know that other options exist like Google maps, Google Earth, Mapquest, etc.

What would you use to catch these fish?...hooks(bait) with sinkers right? Not anything floating or close to the surface?
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 6 жыл бұрын
These inshore fish can be caught on many types of lures... it's more about finding good spots and then selecting an appropriate lure for the conditions. Here's a post that shows lures that catch redfish: www.saltstrong.com/articles/best-lures-for-redfish/

I have caught a lot of reds running with mullet schools. they will be right in the school with them sometimes. when i am way in the bayou marsh i have lots of luck near mullet.
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, redfish often hand around schools of mullet.

I'm going to Sebastian, do u think the inlets will produce redfish right now or should I just target flounder?
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, there are often big reds in Sebastian Inlet throughout the winter. But I'd target flounder this time of the year because there should still be some big ones around, and a big red can very likely be a well received bycatch. Best of luck to you out there!

whats your rod and reel setup that you use most often for snook? Medium or medium heavy? what size reel and rod too?
@coryr9938
@coryr9938 7 жыл бұрын
Ryley Probably a 7' medium rod with a 4000 or 5000 size saltwater reel.
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 7 жыл бұрын
Depends on where I'm fishing. If inshore on the flats, then a 7'6" M (or MH) rod with a 2500 or 3000 series reel is my go-to combo. But if fishing heavy structure and/or current, then I'll go up to a 7'6" MH rod with a 4000 series reel. Note: If using braided line, the small reels can easily get the job done since they can still pack a lot of line and their drag capabilities are typically more than enough. For example, here's a video of a tarpon catch on a 2500 reel with 10 lb braid: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gZ-Tfciqz97Jdp8.html

A type of structure that no one mentions are crab traps. I have had the best of luck fishing crab traps. I'm guessing the fish are trying to get at what ever is caught in the trap but it breeds tons of life around the trap.
@Saltstrong
@Saltstrong 7 жыл бұрын
Great tip Rafael. Yes, crab traps can certainly make for great structure for fish to hold by. Always worth a cast or two. Tight Lines!

What if there is a lot of bait in the area? Ive had that happened a lot. Ill be surrounded by schools of mullet before in the flatts.

@Saltstrong 7 жыл бұрын
Seeing a lot of bait is a great sign, but that doesn't always lead to the most fish... but it certainly increases the odds so it's worth spending time on those areas. Tight Lines!
