How to Fix a Grinding Gearbox Using Molybdenum Gear Additive

If you watched my previous video entitled ' How I Ruined my Car's Gearbox', you would have noticed I was left trying to find ways to delay the time for a scrap yard gearbox. I've tried a few things since then and discovered a solution to the problem. Right now, I don't need to change my gearbox anymore and have found, together with fixes to the idler wheel, tensioner, alternator bearings and excess heat, that my miles per gallon has jumped up from 43 mpg to about 57 mpg normal driving and 63 mpg motorway (highway) driving!

I had great success with Moly slip in an old Citroen AXGT many years ago with a nearly dead gearbox that was just so loud and crunchy, After I added the Moly it was a hell of a lot better and lasted until I managed to sell the car. (RIP little car - F 474 JFT)

Hope you can offer some advice.. My Toyota Hiace slips out of first gear, only when slowing down, so not a big deal, but I'd like to improve it. Do you think Moly Slip might help? I bought Liqui Moly 1040 Gearbox Oil Additive but I didn't use it yet. Any help much appreciated.

Wouldn't hurt to try it for a easy fix. If that doesn't work consider planning a change for a scrap yard/ junk yard gearbox. I would think a vehicle test (MOT in the UK) would exposed that fault as the car would have to be braked to slow it on the ramp at 1st gear.

Hi, how long did it take you to receive results from the moly? I’ve put some in today. Took it for a few test drives, and still seem to be getting the gear crunch :(

Did you drain the old gear oil first and fill with fresh oil and the additive, or just put the additive in the old broken viscosity gear oil? Makes a huge difference. Also, a good rule of thumb is that the additive containers are the size to notice a difference, if you want Real change and improvement then Double or triple the amount. Twice the moly and fresh gear oil will make a difference. Back in the 1960's era, we used to take noisy transmissions and differentials and fill them with sawdust/ gear oil mixture, noise gone, and Sell it Quick!😁👍
