How to Fix A Long Windshield Crack

In this video, I show you how to fix a long windshield crack. I attempted to do it on an older windshield crack and due to dust build up over time it makes it much harder to fully make the windshield crack go away. But we were able to make it a little better and hopefully stop the crack from spreading.

Did you use the curing strip? It didn't show on this video that's why i ask. The resin chamber job is to sip in and *bind* the *inner* glass in between the cracks and settle to the bottom of the glass so that it restores the structural integrity of the glass. Once you done that, the cracks are *still* visible because the top layer of the inner glass hasn't been cured by resin strip. You should use that resin strip and let it cure under the sun for the cracks to disappear.

I just purchased the kit. It doesn't show using the suction cups device for long cracks only for where the rock hit. It is listed under "Directions - Cracks". Just apply the rezin directly to crack from the bottle. I just noticed at the top of the instructions it also says (Please see reverse for repair of cracks). What might help as well, it instructs if there is air in the crack apply a small amount of pressure on the inside of the glass to remove air from crack, but not too hard or it might make the crack grow in size. He probably got conditioner in his crack. haha

Next time...drill the holes on both sides of the crack and clean the crack with a razor and some compressed air..otherwise good job for your first time

Tried a similar repair recently. Turns out the finish of the yellow plunger was so rough that the resin just leaked past it and not into the crack. Shame.

Definitely requires a technique. I did not have a good outcome. Did it three applying a little more pressure each time

What I would do is use a dust electronic spray to clean really good. Then use a vacuum on the crack - to make sure all the dust etc is gone

Anytime the crack touches the side of the windshield the integrity and safety of the windshield is gone and repairing cracks that touch any side can result in the windshield caving in and no repair company should ever repair one that does ,if they do sue them

So I've had a repair company attempted to fix this crack at the bottom of windshield.. he couldn't get the resin to go into crack after drilling like 5 holes in it.. how would one sue ?

Not true. If a crack touches 2 edges, it is compromised. If it only touches one, it can still be repaired. Edge or floater Cracks up to 14” can be repaired safely. This per the ANSI Standard covering repair of laminated auto glass. (ROLAGS). If you sue, good luck as you will be fighting against an industry standard that has been around since 2007 and approved by a 3rd party independent standards organization that determine due process, consensus, and other requirements for approval were met by the standards developer.

I just called the shop and I was told they wont repair anything longer than 2 inches crack...lol thats stupid just want you to pay for a new glass $500 smh

It's a safety liability similar to a tire shop refusing to patch a tire with sidewall damage. Once it's compramised that bad something can fly through it.

Many replacement shops won’t do a crack repair because they prefer the replacement revenue. That’s why they won’t repair anything bigger than 2”. $$$$ The ANSI Standard for Windshield repair known as ROLAGS states that cracks up to 14” can be repaired safely. When repaired using processes outlined in the standard. This should protect any liability should there be an issue.

@@glennfell2462 I've successfully filled quarter sized bullseye's with 6" cracks coming off it. The point is it still looks like shit and for the amount of time and materials it takes its not a price worth charging or paying. Not everyone is out to rip you off, its About being able to provide a service that you can actually be proud of. Pick up a bottle or resin off Amazon and do it yourself if your that cheap. A crack even if it's filled won't disappear and for sure won't pass inspection if it's necessary where you live. Again it's not to rip you off a repair to me is much easier and less Hassle than an install 😉

@@archangel6386 it will absolutely be. The manufacturers of the OEM windshields also produce the Aftermarket windshields and have to pass the same standards. I honestly wish there wasn't so much spreading of misinformation.

Go find some friends and stop talking shit. Or, better yet, go read some books and get some real knowledge instead of making shit up and looking like an idiot. At least he took the TIME & tried it out... why not record it & show the results. That way if it works it worked, & if not then he at least might have saved some1 else the time & money. Me personally I'd rather look at a 10 minute video and get it just was going on then spend however long it took him to do the entire thing. Being Kind & Having Concern. Thank you for sharing though.
