In this video, I will show you guys how to fix External Hard Drive/HardDisk not showing up or detected in your windows 10 computer/Laptops.
CMD Command: msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

It worked after 2 hrs of struggling and watching dozens of videos ! My hdd was not reading on my new pc , nothing showed in disk management or anywhere. The 2nd method solved my issue

you are a striaght up legend! easy and not long tutorial and really helps like other channels just say un plug and plug back in and that deosnt work everytime and also for me they would just make a super long video just saying things you can do instead of showing and if they did they would be showing a super long process which was very annoying you were very simple and easy tutorial! thank you very much for your help!

Still doesn't work for me. I changed the cables and usb port still doesn't seem to work. I think i might have a faulty hard drive instead.

Thanks again! I have a question though.. After that do I revert back to the previous setting or I can keep it that way? Will it affect my PC in any way if I keep the new setting?

Thank you Sir, after watching around 15 KZfaq videos all day long and not a single video fixed my problem until I have watched your video . My externals' problem is the pc and my laptop detects the external after plug in but after a few minutes the external automatically ejects and the PC cant detect it . I am from PH btw

So basically I have a external hard disk I found a video to fix that way windows button + x then it'll show that I have about 215 items of information there and It won't recognize in the laptop anymore what should I do help me please thank you!

Nothing will fix this issue. I don't even get the USB power setting at the end. And when I do the commands it says no issue detected and that's it so I have no damn clue

I'm having a weird problem with a brand new Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD I got that I'm trying to use inside of a Sabernet 2.5 HDD enclosure. The weird thing is my PC detects the enclosure but not the drive inside. Drive spools up just fine & was able to reformat the drive to NTSF right before this issue & was able to see it in disk manager just fine but now nothing drive also spools up & runs just fine with no noticable issues such as clicking noises or overheating. Any idea what is causing this? I'm at a loss now. Could the drive have gone bad? Or could this just be an issue with the enclosure? Also another weird issue is it wont let me safy eject the drive ether.

Wow, Wow, Wow!!! A million thanks! I'm not sure if this had anything to do with my problem, but I had installed Office 365 and uninstalled Office 2007 Enterprise which required me to reinstall Office 365 and when I got done, none of my external data drive would show up whether on my 7 port USB 3.0 hub or the 2 resident USB 3.0 ports on my desktop PC.

Mine has a different problem. My seagate hard drive has a flashing blue light when the power supply and the usb cable are plugged into the laptop. I don’t hear the hard drive spinning.

right click should be mentioned so that then you can select run as administrator to show beginners

great help but still a problem , the disk management is ok and exdrive is initialed . but when i want to transfer files to the exterior hardrive from my pc " there then seems to be no removable disk or hardrive listed on my " send to " when i highlight the file and right click and then i go send to ..nothing , your the man for advice , perhaps the xdrive is too large at 5tb ..thanks

Thanks for the video. I follow your instructions but I cannot still see the new disk besides the old one, even though I see the new one in Disk Management. My new HDD is connected to my lap/desktop through Oroco 6239U3 dock, and I have not formatted the disk. What else should I do? Thank you for your advice. Happy New Year!

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. My win10 hp z240 desktop will not start if I have my Seagate external drive plugged in to USB port. It shows in Device Manager but it's not accessable. It says the driver is up to date. Can anyone help?

I just tried to do it and it said I needed to reset the computer to finish it cause it found a problem I did and nothing happened then re did it and did the second method and still nothing

My device which cannot be detected was plugged in my laptop with Windows 10. The 1st option didn't detect any problem to be able to choose one. The 2nd option, the Power Plan Advance Settings is not showing the USB Setting. Nothing Happened.

Hi, good day.... i am still having issues with my external HDD and i need the files inside cos its for work...... The light comes on, i have tried a different cable but nothing..... it doesnt even show up on the Disk management.... Meanwhile while plugged there is a spin but no notification or indication that it was recognized by the system... please help

Kericho - Pardon me but your solution did NOT work for me. I executed the command you recommended and i did not get the "DEVICES" screen. SO i have an external drive which is not showing in Windows explorer.

I don't know if my HDD is damaged or broken, I've tried so many guides on how to get it to show up. Changed so many settings on my computer and ran many scans and updates. Tested multiple usb slots on my pc, I've tried multiple USB leads also. With one lead, no light shows on the hard drive but I can feel the motor running inside. With another lead, the light powers on but no motor inside kicks in. No matter what I try, I can't get it to show up on my PC. Please help me Indian PC guru from the gods! Any suggestions would be fantastic

My hdd works on my laptop but won't even show up on disk management. None of the ports (usb3.0) show the hdd but other devices work so what could the problem be? If it's not the ports & not the hdd. So lost!!! Pls help 😣

I removed my external drive bcoz I want to transfer a file to my normal usb. Then my normal usb is detected, and when I put back my external it's not showing up anymore. What's happening?😣

hi there sir/family i got a hard drive 1t want use it for free usb (if i put it into any p.c it work evey time ) hard drive been thru___ dban/give it a letter it has been thru___ Bad Sectors every thing worked i can see it in disk management with a letter + in device manager if i click on th hard drive in disk management show th letter but if i try click on th right side (it give me nothing at all)

my toshiba 1tb is not even showing up in the disk management, after i found it unplugged from my pc oddly for some reason. thought that's irrelevant to the fact that it isn't showing up in file explorer under "This PC" and also not showing up in disk management. It's no where to be found and all of my games were uninstalled that were using that storage drive

Didn't fix my issue where my disk shows up in disk management as unknown. Yet the troubleshooter did detect issues and fixed them.

Doesnt work, and also my HD shows 3 partitions when it needs to be only one, and none of them are with capacity as much as the HD is. Its 2TB and i have 3 volumes, one with 224 MB, with 1116688 MB and with 2064 MB. Only the last one is shown in disk management.

I tried this method and sadly, it did not seem to change anything. My Drive still hasn’t been detected. And also to note, the part where I have to select the unknown USB to fix never showed up, it skipped right ahead from clicking automatic repairs straight to the part where I have to close the troubleshooter……

This didn't work or me.. I took out a perfectly good working hard drive from my 32 bit system and plugged it into my 64 bit system laptop to obtain its files as my previous laptop cant charge until new battery arrives, but it just wont show up. any ideas anyone. I'm really stuck, cheers steven

Step 1 (troubleshooting) did not work. Step 2 (disabling USB selective suspend setting) did not work either.
