I had this exact problem with a brand new 700 SPSS in .300 WinMag back in 2012. Mine wouldn't even reliably extract UNFIRED rounds. I was asked NOT to shoot this rifle by my rangemaster, who took a dim view of me hammering the cleaning rod to extract the empty case after each shot while sighting the rifle in. Fortunately I live within 45 minutes of a Remington authorized gunsmith. They never actually told me what the problem was, but at the time, I suspected a tight chamber. Internet research suggests that the timing of the action might also have been the root cause, and your video has convinced me of that. In any event, they fixed it under warranty, and I took a deer with it that fall. With handloads this is a very accurate rifle. The built in recoil pad on this rifle produces less felt recoil than on my 700 BDL .270. Somebody at Big Green fell asleep at the switch again. I have three other 700s that have no such problems, and are accurate and a joy to shoot, right out of the box. Thanks for a VERY informative video!

Thanks for the video sir and it is a good one.i was wondering though would it not be better/easier to remove and re time the bolt hand? I have two of the new remington 700 rifle that I'm going to have rebarreled and the caming action on both are off and everyone I've talk to says to just retire the handle after trueing the action

I live near Remington, and have a close friend that is an Engineer that handles all the Military contracts for Remington.. They have said the quality control has taken a major dive since they have decided to leave New York for Alabama.. Most of the staff / engineers , and workers that have a lifetime of experience and knowledge are now gone.. Remington knows they they have a problem, yet they just want the product out the door. If they have a problem they will just fix as it arises.. So in the past allot of this crap would be corrected before it left , and now its not.. With the new plant up and running in Alabama now all of that knowledge and experience is gone. They are hiring kids straight out of college with an Engineering degree. Dont get me wrong I have many Remington products I own , but its truly sad to see such a well known and once great product take a dive. So now the customers will be the guinea pigs with the quality issues and the learning curve of New employees who have never built a gun before.. Very little is still produced in New York and over time will be eventually phased completely out...

Why, with everything that is known about Remington's Walker trigger and Remington's in-house failure to do anything except ignore and hope are gun enthusiasts still purchasing Remington firearms? When a company makes a decision to ignore a potentially lethal situation due to cost($) why do people continue to purchase their products? I will never own a Remington nor hunt with anyone who does as I'd like to see my grandchildren grow up.

Question for you. Are the extractor, and the extractor Spring the same in the 700 and 770??

Hey Jeff, I just wanted to ask you, as a young man with aviation skills, the work you're doing is something I would love to do as a career. Any tips on getting started? I wouldn't mind apprenticing except I still have to keep the lights on.

I have fixed this problem by welding an appropriatly thick shim on the cam surface of the bolt handle.

Same problem here. 700 tactical RR serial number 300 win mag. I live South East Oklahoma and would love for someone to fix it.

Can I ask why you just didn't heat and remove the bolt handle, which is soldered on? Then place it in it's proper location leaving about .005 to .007 of clearance between the bolt and receiver body? It is true though, whoever was trained to make certain the bolt handles where properly placed on the bolt bodies stayed in New York and the info evidently did not make it's way south.

Its not the bolt handle that is out of place. It is the machining of the action body. Compare an action body that was made yesterday to an action body that was made 20 years ago and you can see the difference. Moving the bolt handle would not help you fix anything.

It may look like it is the bolt handle that is bearing on the camming surface but it is actually part of the bolt body that the bolt handle is just brazed onto. You can see better on this video at 1:00. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/itaGpsxmqLjIdZc.html

This is the correct way to fix it.... it’s a handle timing issue for sure

On my Rem the bolt handle itself has a cam angle and cams against the receiver to start primary extraction. Maybe look into simply re silver solder the bolt handle as opposed to welding on a treated chromoly receiver. Mine is a B series Rem..don't know about RR and S series though.
