If you have poor posture, you not only are aware of it but likely would welcome an easy way to fix it. In this video, I’m showing you a 4 step plan that can attack the most common posture flaws to give you a nice, tall, upright posture sooner than you think. I’m going to show you how to hit correct rounded shoulders, a hunched back, crooked neck, forward head and tilted pelvis. When you apply the easy drills shown here you will start to feel better almost instantly and work towards permanently fixing your bad posture.

The four biggest problem areas for those with bad posture is the neck, shoulders, mid back and pelvis. Specifically, if you spend a lot of time sitting at a desk or behind the wheel you will wind up getting slumping shoulders and a rounded back. To counteract the head being pulled downward, you wind up tilting your head up so you can look straight ahead. This has the effect of overarching your neck and weakening the deep neck flexors. Finally, when the upper spine curves forward, the pelvis winds up curling under. This posterior pelvic tilt is something that adaptively tightens the hamstrings and weakens the lower back.
If you want to fix your posture you have to hit each of these areas with individualized attention. We have actually addressed each of these in depth with the following videos:
How to Fix Rounded Shoulders - • How to Fix Rounded Sho...
How to Fix Anterior Pelvic Tilt - • How to Fix Anterior Pe...
How to Fix Posterior Pelvic Tilt - • Stop Stretching Your H...
How to Fix a Rounded Upper Back • Thoracic Mobility Dril...
That said, there is something that you can do for each of these areas that will help you to correct the postural problems without having to spend a long time each day. These are efficient and effective but do need your consistency in order to make a lasting impact on the correction. The funny thing about posture is that we often spend a lifetime doing the things that ruin our posture in the first place, yet expect that we will be able to fix it in an hour.
While not an hour, these posture correction exercises will have an immediate impact on the way you feel. You should feel as if you have more mobility in the tightened areas and that your body begins to move more free and easy. From here, with a bit of consistency you will be able to make permanent changes in your posture that will have you feeling stronger and looking much better than you do now.
An important note on posture and working out, that I referenced earlier, is that it is not a good idea to lift weights when your body is severely out of alignment. All you are doing is strengthening poor posture and dysfunction. Lifting weights in the presence of dysfunction is quickly going to lead to not only other compensations elsewhere in the kinetic chain but likely wind up in injury. It is much smarter to fix the issues with your posture first and then strengthen your body to reinforce the new perfect posture.
For a complete program that helps you to correct your posture at the same time that you are actually building new muscle and getting ripped, head to athleanx.com and get the ATHLEAN-X Training System. Use the same exact workout routine used by Jesse to not only add muscle to his frame but dramatically improve how he looks when standing.

I’ve always had bad posture but lugging around a heavy ass bag in school did not help. Because I carried every book and binder to every class because we simply were not given enough time between classes to get from half our classes to our lockers (and the schools I went to had small lockers three to a row) and if you had a middle or bottom locker sometimes eve a top locker you were screwed and would be late, and being late was not an option for me as most teachers would hear nothing of it if you tried to explain it was because of the crowds at the lockers. Now I work in an office at a desk so being at a phone and computer all day kn top of being a gamer its worsened my posture and I’ve been working to fix it. Its not perfect but its getting there but I have a tilted pelvis and thats what I really need to work on. Even though I’m correcting it keeping it is hard because I resort to my bad posture when my back starts hurting from the many accidents I’ve been in.

(Edit) My posture and nerd neck is 70% fixed when I don’t stand sluggish (I’ve been a little lazy on the exercise consistency but this will 100% fix your problem friends!) Thanks so much, I'm a forty year old woman who has done no physical exercise for ten years seriously! My postures appalling and my muscles are so weak its unbelievable, I cant even squat. I even tried a basic yoga stretch, pushed a little hard and pulled pelvic ligament due to lack of flexibility. I'm in pain, extremely unhealthy and your video is the best I've seen. Your really friendly, motivating and the exercises are simple enough, (I have to adapt the pulling one as dont go to gym,no confidence) and the fact theres only four isnt overwhelming. Its hard to start making a difference n change your life but my fitness journey has to start with a single step and that's your little exercises. Sorry for the essay but I felt if I write a comment and also take before and after pics I have to hold myself accountable. Thank you for inspiring me! I'll show you the afters one day!

Hi there! Thank you very much men for the posture correction video. I have been a cook for many years. I didn't realize how bad my back posture has become till I saw myself in a full length mirror. As a career cook...I have arched my back and neck over a prep area to chop and slice and make various items quite a while. This video has given me simple exercises to correct my posture. Thank you both very much. Laura from NH

Ok, back to him What in the hell, Gregg, I didn't tell you to write that. Hey, don't write that either. And pull up your pants, you look like a damn ... *he said some racist stuff that I won't type. Why won't you type it, Gregory? You fucking pussy. Too scared of hurting people's feeling? Back in my day, if someone said something you didn't like, you punched them right in the face. He brings up a really good point about posture actually, I've recently realised how fucking bad my posture is and it's clearly something that's been building up over the years and making me uncomfortable, I wouldn't be surprised if it's affected my weight a bit as well. I think a lot of health problems that people have especially in regards to weight are just down to desk work over long periods of time and doing nothing to correct it, I know i'm guilty of that.

This video cures bad posture, anxiety and depression. I have bad posture, worse than the guy in the video had before. Bad posture, not only lowers your stamina through the day but also lowers your confidence, your sleep and your cognition. I can speak by myself. The 'nerd neck' as he called it, constrains the blood flow to the brain, triggering anxiety. You can't properly relax while sleeping, you are always making an huge effort to look straight and good in public, as your heavy head only wants to fall down and you can't walk normally. You can't oxygenate the brain properly, you can't relax neither body neither mind 24/7. What a great video. I've been trying to fix my posture for some time now, but all I see is standing straight on a wall doctor videos. It is a good exercise too. But by what this trainer spoke and by what I've been researching for the last year in the subject, he really knows what he is talking about. Many doctors instead a prescribing pills to patients, they should look first at their posture and forward them to this kind of treatment. Bad posture heavily messes with health, confidence and cognition.

Me neither, I only extrapolated by personal experience. Where do you feel more anxiety? In the thorax. Anxiety is only a command from our brain to our thorax to demand oxygen. This happens when you have a thinking overload and lack of oxygen in the brain to supply all those neurons working.

Then neck exercise I'm scared of... Instead of that he does in the video, I don't dot it laying down, I sit on a chair, balance the chair back and push my back against the back of the chair and then my neck and chin back.

This was such an easy fix to release the tension,, I will include this in my morning routine... For me, the exercise that fixed it instantly was the one with the tennis ball,, I think my problem was with tension in the upper thoracic spine coming from heavy kettlebell swings.. However, I do them all,, including the leg exercise not shown here to fix back problems.

Thanks Jeff, I think your right on it. I've had people ask me why I walk with my head down and having a dog and going to a lot of dog parks I told them so I don't step in dog poop. I really think my posture has gotten bad and might have alot to do with my back pain. Plus I had neck surgery in 2006 and because my neck has calcification it hurts to hold my head back. I do exercises to try to keep it loose. I'm really going to work on this because walking up every morning with back and neck pain is no way to live. I'll keep you posted Jeff, thank you man.

Remember to RELAX and breathe whenever you stretch, you can't stretch a muscle by force! This P. T. is right-on about putting form first, once you have the body mechanics down, slowly stretch to the point of resistance then relax and breathe into your stretch and allow your tension to melt as your muscles lengthen! I do not remember if you taught me this for my previously terrible posture, now just bad, s- shaped spine, but I stand up at a wall jam (between two rooms = 4-6" wide, heels against wall, then butt, then shoulders, then all the back touch the wall and try for the knees and finally my kyphotic neck so my head touches. It forces in the anterior core (abdominals) and pulling the shoulders back as far as you can to push against the wall is a huge isomemetric strengthener. Started at 20-30 seconds and have gotten to 5 minutes. Everything to maintain straight posture is strengthening. I also had been doing a lot of you other exercises: dead lifts, face pulls etc but dentistry sucks for back posture and I must correct before I get old. i am only 75 so gotta keep it up.

J G I know he has a couple vids addressing the low back, thoracic spine and IT band, but I would love to know his perspective on his top foam rolling techniques for other muscles as well (e.g. hamstrings, calf muscles, erector spinae, hip flexors, etc.), how to know which muscle you should foam roll, the best time to foam roll, etc. :)

cesar daniel Your right, it's a 4 year old video now. I've been thinking that lately myself. He's got a lot of old videos like that he should update for all of the new viewers. I mean, how many people go back to watch old AX videos? 1 out of 10?

@Tushar Sachdeva i aggree, most of the other channels seem to say the same thing in different ways and try to back up their points by showing off their own muscles as if that by itself is enough to get us to our ideal bodies
