The technique you show at ~6:00 to plumb up the face of the wall is really smart. I'm watching videos to learn how to render/plaster bits on my house and I think that's the first time I've seen that technique.

Thank you buddy its a similar way I do floor screeds to get the levels. I wouldn't do it like this all the time as we tend to go for straight and the walls shouldn't be built to far out and again if they are would tend to need more work and time to get right

I’m a DIY-er and getting to terms with this process. I’m pretty sure I’m trying to finish with the devil float too early and end up pulling more more cement off the wall. Just wanted to check how deep the screws should protrude and should I be resisting the temptation to close in the finish too much. Notice that at 8:21 you’re more concerned with a “general” float with more emphasis on providing the key. Almost at the stage where I’m contemplating closing in the finish and then using a scratcher. Sounds numb I know but I reckon I’m over doing it and overthinking too. Thanks for helping Mac

I preffer little thin nails myself - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y7KCp9aUlc6VZ58.html that me setting up the float ... The more you close it in the easier it is to skim. for sure if you go to early it will tend to stick in more and pull gear off or as some say rub holes in it, very bad for outside work as will make waves that the sun will show of... its mostly trimming here I can go early with experince but when i was learning i would have let it set up a little more and did the finger test poking it to see how wet and stiff it is

@@macplastering Hi Mac, Thanks for helping. I’ve watched the video and can see straight away that I had screws set way too deep. You have nails 2-4mm deep but I had screws more like 6mm maybe more. Plus I realise that the screws will have a tendency to pull the cement away whereas the nails will be a bit more streamlined. Gonna follow your advice and start again. Once again thanks👍

actually thought i had it recorded so it was 2 lines pulled off both sides if that makes sense but i either cut it out forgot to recorded it or just talked about that LOL but yes it is a good way to get walls much straighter and plumb again most jobs we don't have time for that its to go straight and plumb at window walls ect sutch as sites and some walls you would never get right unless you had 3 days at the wall LOL Thanks again for the support Joe mate

No let that stuff set for a week or two then hire a drill to chip it up LOl Jokes mate I think if you re watch video I forgot to say during it to keep the hawk / hand board under the trowel if you look again you will see the gear dropping is caught my apply to drop ratio is like 10 to 0.85 haha no but in all serious when im straightening that gear is back in the tube board bucket wheelbarrow also i keep floor clean so can pick any if any that has feel and re mix it :) Thanks for watching Marcus mate

Could this support porcelain tiles? Seen the lads in America float bathroom walls with mesh… Curious as gypsum is only rated till 20kg per sqm. I know this is render but some old properties the skim is over a render as you have done
@macplastering
@macplastering 9 ай бұрын
Depends on the size and weight of the tile we do tile over this here with no issues untill tiles need removing takes the skim with it but you could just float it and then tile would be the strongest bond

not all right handers do some work left to right as i just showed and most right handers i know in the game do to and great plasterers funny i know a left hander and he dose opposite this is toe to heal pressure is key not really where you start i could start in the middle and work a spiral out form that and it be just as good as any wall LOL I do get what ya saying as a guy wrote it in a book before but fails to say where his foot work is and how his body is shaped in fact has anyone ever said that ? the other thing you have to think about is dry dash no way is a guy that dashed right hand gona go and start right to left the start dashing left to right as again how you would be standing and flicking the stones on another thing really missed in the old plastering books think its time they got a new write better still it could have been a typo LOL but yes just saying and do what is most comfortable as to prolong your energy and work life my friend
