As someone who is getting back into fly fishing after 15 years or so, i've really enjoyed watching your videos and learning about some of the changes in tackle and tactics. Shame we are in local lockdown at the moment and unable to get down to Garnffrwd (first venue I ever fished). Keep the great videos coming, cheers

Another great vid Rhys, diolch 👍. Fair weather fisher so never really fished beyond October before but after rediscovering my love for fly fishing over the last couple of years and the need to get out to help with my sanity in these challenging Covid times, am hoping to get out to Clywedog or Brenig over the next couple of weeks. Will definitely try your suggestions in here and will also try the bung having just watched that vid of yours too, which will be a first at that method for me. Keep them coming - love your tutorials and for fishermen like me there’s nothing ‘too basic’ 😁. Just watched your dropper knot vid which has saved me hours of struggle. Thanks again #alwayslearning

Great video mate, loving the content. Just a quick one on what are the general rules with what to fish on point and on dropper with lures? Is there a traditional pattern which works best? How do you decide what dropper to fish or will you sometimes just go with 1 fly?
@RhysFishes

For smallstillwaters its usually just one lure. General rule of thumb - heaviest fly on the point always 👍

Another great video, enjoy watching, I have a question , I have an Airflo velocity clear intermediate line and it spirals and coils a lot ,, is that usual?
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Allan. Some airflo lines are reknown for retaining spool memory so yours is not the first! A line will always hold some memory initialy but time on the water and fish on the end of the line normally smoothens out that coiling. If it doesnt then it sounds like you were rather unlucky with that specific line on this occasion

I see the DI3 line has a sink of 1.5 per second. So does the fast glass. Why would you use one over the other? Also is a reason to favour a full sink line over a 10ft sink tip for example?

Not sure what your winters are like in the UK, but in the Northern Midwest, USA, I'll take a calm bright sunny day to warm up the water any little bit it can every single time. Often they are the only days I'll even try, and even then only at the warmest points in the day. Google tells me 12 degrees C is about 53 degrees in freedom units, and for most of the winter you won't anything here near that warm outside some tailwaters and certain spring creeks. And in the really cold weeks, some of those will even freeze over. And it's not like anything you're saying is wrong, just that we fish very different worlds in the winter, and it's kinda funny hearing someone going on about how you want to fish the overcast windy days in winter so that you can get the cooler more 02 rich water!
@RhysFishes
@RhysFishes 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting. If the aim here was to target fish on natural patterns such as buzzers and nymphs, then we'd want a milder day with sun. But when we're talking strictly about uk lure fishing - a moderate or strong wind and overcast conditions are almost the holy grail for exploring the success with lure fishing. 👍

The bung in the margins or if a hatch is present 3 nymphs twiddled back round the edges. With a wind in your face the fish will be close in so avoid spooking them. Discoloured water is a slight pain but can be overcome with bright or dark flies that have a sillouette 👍
