After 13 years of Japanese Jiu Jitsu I got my black belt yesterday. It does take hard work and dedication but also the right mindset. It's all a mind game of becoming the best version of yourself and understanding what you're actually doing theoretically. Not just being big and bulky and smashing people. Got enough people doing that already. In case you train for self defense like myself it's very important to be an all-round fighter instead of doing groundwork only. Defending against weapons and understanding their use is also a key element these days. I wish all of you goodluck on your journey to the black belt. Which is not the destination but a doorway to a new beginning on yet another higher level.

Right on! My cousin and I dont has a jiu-jitsu gym ner enough to train at so weve spent hours watching videos online and rolling with eachother on a regular basis. Now we have a small group of fierd up men ages 13 to 24 who roll at least once a week in my cousin's tiny basment. At the top of my bucket list is to someday roll with Jocko! I know I would learn so much and it would be so fun! I'd also love to hang out with Echo and learn about his video and editing work flow, as a videographer/cinematographer myself I'm very interested in what he does.

You do what you can, but it's important to have a higher belt to help you with details in the technique.

Brand New to the Path, class 5 this morning. 51 years old and loving it. What are the knee braces you recommend?

What’s up man. Been training roughly 15 years and have had a couple knee injuries with one being serious. My advice is to do squats and leg exercises. Don’t skip leg day. I have worn braces and the strongest my knees have felt are now with no leg braces. I do lighter weight. 4 sets of 20 at 135 lbs (and had to work up to it). Got my black belt recently and started lifting more as a brown belt after a meniscus tear. Strength training with good form seems to be the key for me, at least

Awesome reply from Justin! Look up "bulletproof for BJJ" a couple black belts in Australia who are also personal trainers, they have a podcast and an exercise program app to help BJJ players become more resistant & resilient to injury.

I’ve been a white belt since 2015 and my experience has taught me that No matter how hard you work if the instructors don’t personally like you they will never promote you especially if you submit them and the people they like I stoped going to promotions year’s ago and it has served me well belt color has nothing to do with ability I don’t mean for these words to sound negative because no matter what mother jiu jitsu gives to those who work hard belt color means nothing to her proud white belt forever guru out

This story is absolutely true and I have switched from zenith to impact jiu jitsu there is no requirement to attend promotions at any club FYI Evan the first Gracie grandmasters never wore there red belts that should tell you something 🙏

@@marcelmaksel8814 Great comment! As a blue belt I can say there are many self defense techniques that are good, but some habits can be really bad as well (guard pulling, constant leg locking etc...)

Dont go beating people on the street may be. Self defence tools and deescalation skills are effective in street combat. Most of you will never have to even get in a fight. And if you cant avoid getting attacked that will usually still be a situation where u should not fight (e.g. robbery with multiple armed attackers)
