Today the defensive like and the line backers we're practicing tackles, we were running against a "Popsicle" bag and we were taught once we hit we keep our feet moving, allot of us flipped the bag over so it was facing the other way

Jesus, if I see one more "I'm this age, this height, this weight, what should I play" comment, I'm going to come unglued haha. If you want to learn how to hit. Study men who train and live to hit. Fighters. Specically muy thai fighters. They undergo a process of shin conditioning over many years which calcifies the tibia so that they can strike with their shins relentlessly. They can shatter other men's tibias, and chop down plantain trees by kicking. One thing you notice is that when you are strong, they also have to not hesitate when kicking. When you tense up and brace yourself for the collision, it has the effect of slowing you down. It isn't even by much and it happens in fractions of a second. An observer wouldn't even be able to perceive it. It happens literally a fraction of a second before impact. That bracing recoil causes you to absorb more of the force of your own hit (remember physics, equal and opposite reactions). The best advice to hit harder incorporates three things: (1) Train for power. You must learn to create elastic force in the kinetic chain. Deadlift, squat, power clean. Plyos a couple times per week and train explosively. If you don't train for a live situation, you won't get the training effect. (2) Hit more often. Like the muy thai fighters. They condition their shins to hit by fucking hitting. Get yourself a large heavy bag or a sled for home. Get shoulder pads and a helmet. Train hitting on your own time. When you have done a few thousand reps over the summer, come fall, hitting hard will be like breathing. (3) When striking, learn how to hit loosely. Go with full momentum and extend at the hips (aka, open the door) like you've been training in your cleans and deadlifts, but don't tense the whole body in a recoil. Fly THROUGH. Think of trying to get to some hot piece of ass on the other side, and the only way is through.

what im scared of tho is what if there are two guys and both running at each other full speed open field (happens alot on kickoff) and colliding because that does ALOT of damage (this happened between me and a friend last year during practice left us both gasping for air and hurt) what im asking is, is there a better way to hit to not cause this injury

You're still young and have a lot of room for improvements. I recommend picking a position you feel you'd enjoy the most and start grinding to get better at that position.

i play outside linebacker and im going to be a junior next year since we are much faster you have you use your hands. What i mean is get you hands on the linemen before he gets his hand on you and use techniques such as ripping. But if they get your hands on you it makes its so much harder to get to the ball. This helped me alolt

I am 15 years old going into my sophomore year in high school. I weigh 134 and I'm 5'8". I bench 145 and squat 220 and deadlift 315. I also am pretty quick as I ran the 40 in 4.91. I have played corner for 2 years now and I'm wondering if I should stay with that or do something else.

This helps I'm going to be a freshman this year and going into my second year of football. I was scared to hit at first but towards the end of the season it was nothing. I'm around 5'8 180 I have speed to me. I played OG and OT and want to play TE I am learning the routes but idk if I'm good enough

Stick to playing o line... You probably won't like it, but tight ends normally started out as receivers at one point in time

A good example is when Ray Lewis ran through a bolted door. I believe he said something around the lines of I don't focus on hitting the door but I focus on going through it

Good advice. My 8th grade year I was 5'6" 125lbs about the second fastest player in short distance, fastest at longer distances but I played o line bc of how aggressive I was and how hard I hit. Some reason coach didn't like the way that I blocked because I would first hit with my body and then I would push as hard as I could with my hands to nock them off balance. Then during games, I would stare down the d lineman across from me and tell myself to put him on his ass. It worked really good until I had to block a dude that was abt 6' 160. Every play was a struggle to keep the ball carrier safe.

Hey, so I'm 15, 6'1 sophomore, weigh 195, bench 195, squat 305, deadlift 405 and hang clean 215. I've been playing defensive end quite a bit, but I'm wondering if I could try sam linebacker. I'm not slow like a lot of linemen, but I'm not fast as a corner or safety. Also, how can I practice tackling in the offseason?

I'm 15, 180 lbs, 5'6, bench 205, and run my 40 in about 4.5 seconds. I played left guard and d tackle my freshman year but I want to switch positions for varsity since all the lineman are bigger than me. Any suggestions?

I don't know where to ask this... Should a football player use a shoulder width grip as opposed to a wider (powerlifter) grip on bench press since the game is played with the hands more inside?
