I recently graduated CDL-school and (knock on wood) getting ready to start my first trucking job. The CDL school did not teach me how to hook/unhook and from the looks of it, the company i'm in the hiring-process with wont be giving me a trainer. So thank you for explaining how to connect/disconnect the trailer

before you back under the trailer, you should get out and make sure the kingpin is in line with the truck fifth wheel, very important. Don't just assume that if the wheels are in line with the trailer, the kingpin is in as well. Must get out and check, Also check before you back under the trailer to make sure the fifth wheel is not too high in relation to the trailer height. Not every truck is same height. Few more items you needed to cover but all in all, good video.

According to the rule book, your suppose to back up and hook Air lines BEFORE fully connecting to the trailer to keep it from moving backwards while you back up into it. Also you are suppose to turn the truck off and keys in pocket when underneath the trailer.

So when you back under the trailer, you don't get out and connect your lines first? I ask because in the commercial drivers manual for NY state it states air line should be attached to trailer befor full backing under the trailer.

I noticed that your landing Gear was about 1 inch above the ground when disconnecting and your 5th wheel had fresh grease and when you backed in i believe the grease was whiped off on the front of the trailer. Would it not be better to put the landing gear all the way down to the ground so when you reconnect ther would be sufficent frease on the upper cupler plate? just asking
