Hi folks here is a short video on how to feed, house and care for your reptile & invertebrate feeders. Here we are re-housing locust with a simple plastic tank some paper towel, food source and water. Keep your feeders healthy & gut loaded.
If anyone has more information on Falcarinol, a compound in Carrots and how this reacts with feeders and other inverts when digested I would be ever thankful, I know that Falcarinol is a natural pesticide and fatty alcohol found in carrots, red ginseng, Panax ginseng and ivy. It protects roots from fungal diseases, such as liquorice rot that causes black spots on the roots during storage. However I would like to know if this would have any effects on feeders or praying mantis and spiders if the feeders are gut loaded with carrots? Or am just worrying over nothing as it may be based on how much of a dosage they get for it to cause harm?
Anyway folks thanks for watching, Don't forget to subscribe, like and share thanks.

I understand the skin crawling as I get this with earwigs and centipedes, however I thought this video would help keep their feeders healthy and also the importance of gut loading, especially in reptiles.

They seem to love carrots, apple, and savoy cabbage. The savoy works really well because it keeps for so long and they can chew through it a lot easier than most cabbage. I tend to drop in a big leaf every few days. They love it!

A nice tasty green snack always goes down well with them, they even eat the plants in bio active setups if the mantids don't get them in time 😂

One of my friends didn't have the heart to feed his large monitor lizard live vertebrates, so he instead gave him very large locusts instead. He's doing just fine as far as I know.

How do you keep them warm enough in a critter tank like that? My son wanted to bring some home from the pet shop!

Hi, I've pretty much got mine set up the same. I get large locusts, but at least half of them die in the first 3 or 4 days. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I currently keep the tank on top of the lizard viv right above where the heat lamp is. Do you think they aren't warm enough? Any advise is very much appreciated. 😊

A better way to give them water, so they don't drown is using water beads. You can buy thousands from ebay for cheap. Also, that insect keeper isn't a fish tank. Those things are not suitable for fish at all. I use woodshavings for a substrate for insects that i keep cause they can burrow if they want. Locusts prob won't do that much but I still like to keep them on woodshavings cause you don't have to clean that out as often as paper towels

Thanks for the info, I didn't like the bug gel myself however I know other people who use it. I call it a fish tank as these were the tanks we had as kids, showing my age now 😂😂😂😂

@@TheMantisMan I don't use bug gel. I buy these beads that soak up water and then the insects can eat them to get a water source. I feel its safer than leaving water in a bowl. I don't think I would want to use that bug gel either

It takes minutes, the tank is shop bought, adding the food, water and other stuff etc helps keep them healthy and alive longer.

What can I use to keep them warmer im not keen on heat mats as its electric. I have water bottles and they seem to like the heat from that?
@TheMantisMan

I use a room that is warm so maybe either near to a radiator, during the summer months you should be OK just in a room as they are.
