Very WORTHWHILE (educational) video by a couple pros who spent some time "under the carriage & across the tracks"! Todd is really knowledgeable and put you both together and it's explosive. (Hobby for me is buying COPART salvage vehicles online & w/virtual bidding many are out of state.) So many times we can pay a lot "for a picture"! This was great & now I SUB'D to Todd @ TRUCK or TRACK!

Todd…. Thank goodness you came by to set Mikey straight on a few things. He needs that every once in a moonpie festival or so. With your PHD in the John Deere Underbelly University you certainly are qualified to handle my questions. Now, here goes: In 2007 I made an Army Tank for my 1 yr old grandson. All parts were made of hard maple but the tracks. They were drive belts from a Hoover Vacuum. (They resemble a flat rubber band 1/2” wide, 1/8” thick by 8” diameter.) I turned all of the pulleys (5 per side) so that they had a groove in them to keep the drive belt from tracking off. They appear to have no wear whatsoever… besides a little bit of paint chipping. The track however is starting to show its age. It has developed a permanent curve where it was stretched over the drive and idler wheels. I suspect that it is due to the fact that it sat in his windowsill undisturbed for the past 8 years. (It has what you might call the rubber equivalent of kinked tracks.) Now, here is where you come in…. I noticed that your Truck or Track website had a section for rubber tracks. I looked it over and couldn’t find any replacements that seemed compatible. (Which is a shame because you have some awesome looking tracks.). So, I went to the Hoover Vacuum website and priced a replacement pair. It was unbelievable to me but, do you realize that in the past 16 years, their price has doubled? They want $11 for a single track! In my book that’s price gouging. I mean, I know the cost of rubber has gone up. But, double? Well Todd, there’s a principal involved here. I mean the tracks are lightly used. They have no cracks. Their surface is not even heavily abraded. If replacement is absolutely necessary I’m gonna shop around. Here are my questions… 1. Do you recommend torching out the kinked section of the tracks and replacing them? 2. Do you think it would be worthwhile to take them off, turn them inside out and see it the kinks work themselves out? 3. If my destiny is to reach deep into my hard earned savings and buy replacement tracks, do you want a piece of that action? 4. If you quote on them, can you quote in both black and camouflage? (Mossy Oak is his current wardrobe phase. It would be ‘totally awesome’ to match his PJ’s.) My need to resolve this is urgent. You see Todd, he graduates High School next Summer. And, by my calculations he has just one last Winter at home in his bedroom to enjoy his tank. I believe that the reason it sat undisturbed in his windowsill is the kinked track… if I get this repaired he will certainly put it back to use this winter. Don’t you think? Any free advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated… you see I’m on what you would call a fixed income… which means… you never have enough income to FIX stuff!

That Takeuchi TL12 you showed is located near me. I've looked at a couple of machines they have posted in the past. They dress them up a little bit and ask a huge price for them. I'm always leary of a machine with a new bucket and tracks or new paint and the rest of the machine looks like crap.
@donniebrown2896
@donniebrown2896 3 жыл бұрын
A dealer takes a trade, the trade in lacks a bucket and the tracks are really damaged. He gets more to replace the parts than selling as is. We bought a used mini van, listed at a bit below market. Great price low miles with no reports of accidents. Here we are 4 years later, paint is flaking on the edge of the hood showing factory paint. One headlight lens perfectly clear, the other fogged. In certain light angles I can see a slight variation of paint shade. I now suspect the dealer did body repairs on non insurance claimed accidents. What do you believe??

@dangerrangerlstc
@dangerrangerlstc 3 жыл бұрын
@@donniebrown2896 there's nothing that says body damage can only be repaired under insurance. What if the fender was rusting out and customer wanted it repaired? You don't make an insurance claim on rust.
@donniebrown2896
@donniebrown2896 3 жыл бұрын
@@dangerrangerlstc true about rust damage as no insurance company anywhere will cover that. This vehicle came from Arizona, I did check for rust. This was a lease vehicle which meant it was probably "touched up" when the lease was up. Dunno. Oh well, learn by my mistakes I guess.
@dangerrangerlstc
@dangerrangerlstc 3 жыл бұрын
@@donniebrown2896 just because the rental car came from Arizona, doesn't mean that's where it spent all its time. Those national rental companies move cars around all the time so they've got a good selection everywhere. Plus they have their own shops sometimes that fix little dings or damages without having to go through insurance. We all know how well people treat rental cars.

Some guys I know bought an old Case 450 loader and did some work on it - injectors, pump, new radiator. Brakes didn’t work. They decided to sell it and were asking 10K for it. I was half-ass interested until the weather finally dried out enough for me to get down to earth and inspect the undercarriage. The bushings were worn through. So basically, it was worth what they paid for it *before* they spent $1200.00 in parts and bunches of hours working on it. They sold it to a neighbor of theirs who must not know much about undercarriage stuff. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@DirtPerfect headed home from checking it out. The undercarriage on it was pretty mint. Brand new rubber tracks idlers shoes very little wear, but, it has the good ole dirt perfect floppy bucket. Figure it’s a special edition so I gotta get it lol. But on a serious note, if it wasn’t for the bucket and the character in the sheet metal, I wouldn’t have known it had 8000 hours in it.

On our SVL 75 we will run the tracks till the drive lugs tear out of them. We only get 600 hours out of a set of tracks on the SVL. We just put a new set on last month. Bear in mind I do quite a bit of reading during the winter I run the machine down the public roads. Rubber tracks on minis they don't last long, our 121 Kubota we went to steel tracks with road liners. Steel tracks on 200 size hoes we'll run them till they are falling off. Undercarriage is very expensive a good operator can run a hoe with baffed out undercarriage. We are not in mud were on shot rock broke with a hydraulic hammer.
