Hi Jim, great videos! Would a layer of techsound 100 against the wall with two layers of 15mm soundbloc plasterboard be as effective? or does it have to be the 20mm rubber?

Hey Dean, Thanks for watching my videos, In short the answer is no, it is not as effective as the 20mm rubber. If you want to use TecSound Self Adhesive 10kg/m2 we have found this is best used with a Rockwool installed after it. For example you sound deaden the wall you are soundproofing with the 10kg/m2 TecSound and then install battens and Rockwool etc or sound deaden the wall with the TecSound and then install a floating frame after it on flanking walls. We find that on the wrong brick or blockwork, TecSound can channel the noise if used on the wrong wall (just like the 30mm panels that have 10kg/m2 mass loaded vinyl) so we try to use the rubber when we can. So I would always recommend using the 20mm rubber to get the best result. Dean if you are considering this for a flanking wall to save space, I would recommend a 5mm rubber the same as the 20mm M20AD we use a lot but 5mm version. Most Soundproofing materials suppliers sell this. Then install the 15mm sound bloc board with the two different types of adhesive creating that resilient layer. Hope that helps, thanks for you comment, great questions, let us know how you get on with your soundproofing 👍

Would I need planning permission to do this in a terrace house? Also, would it be ok just to do this in just one room only? A top bedroom of terrace, above a living room for an example? Will it be too heavy structurally?

Hey Joey, great question, no you will NOT need planning permission unless it’s a listed building. You will not need a party wall agreement either. Yes, it will be fine doing it in one room. We offer a 10 year guarantee with all our installation and also a page of 50 homeowners you can phone up and speak with before going ahead, so I’m confident that wall system is fine. However you must install it the way we show you on The Noise Free DIY Soundproofing Course. We use mechanical fixing for the first layer and two different types of adhesive….although there are materials suppliers offering similar systems now…we install it differently so that we get maximum integrity from the materials. Also note: you will not get the full benefit of treating the upstairs room until you have done the downstairs….and also it’s never a case of just doing the party wall. Great question, hope that helps please let us know how you get on.

Hey Jim! This is awesome! How would you go about affixing kitchen cabinets to this? Or would you recommend a secondary stud wall? Would you need to decouple the lower cabinets from the floor? You said in previous videos that any voids need to be dampened internally, but that wouldn't work inside a working cabinet.

Hey Mikey, The 50mm system works by sound deadening the wall using the different layers of Mass, unlike resilient bars and channels, you can actually fix kitchen cabinets directly to the brick work behind with this system. Go all the way through, fixing to brick work behind for really heavy objects. Put acoustic sealant in the hole before plugging it…..making sure you use the rawl plugs that do not spin. Great question, you might find this video helps: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o6x8iM1nudWppZ8.htmlsi=vtu5Tt1vRdhzLn-U

Hey Patrick, here is a link, just say you are watching my videos and right give you a deal: - soundproofingshop.com/acoustic-boards/m20-rubber-panel-1m-x-1m-20mm-18kg-m20 Just note these are the heavy duty 18kg version not the cheaper light weight version. 👍

Is rubber mandatory? Do you know of a cheaper, albeit worse alternative, that would do a decent job at sound deadening a brick wall with downstair neighbor noise echoing? I have about 50 square meters to install, so rubber would be so pricy...
@jimprior7
@jimprior7 5 ай бұрын
Hi Pedrov.6928 50 square metres of the 20mm rubber will cost about £1,000 here in the UK, that is a pallet of 50 sheets. Remember it is the airtightness way we install it with the different adhesives that gets the best results. Not sure of anything else that would offer similar levels of sound deadening a brick wall. 🙏 thank you for your question.
