Good job. Tip I learned years ago about lining up holes to those fixtures/knobs. Line the pipe openings with lipstick. then press the panel against that pioe opening. Now you have markings on the panel where you can make your cuts to drill.

As a 20 year professional remodeler I’d like to suggest not using this system and here’s why. First, it’s flimsy and cheap. Second, the more seams and screw holes the more potential leaks. This unit has three seams and 15 screw holes. You NEVER want screws in your shower area. The plugs pop off and water gets back there and rusts the screws and makes leaks. And the third reason I would never use this unit is the finished edges. Who in god’s creation wants to install wood trim around a water and moisture making shower???? You’re going to be recaulking and repainting that trim yearly. Not to mention if you have a bath design that isn’t conducive to the farmer wood motif. I appreciate the time and effort you put into making this instruction video but if you really want to help your viewers tell them to buy a three piece rigid wall system that mounts directly to studs and screws in at the top and is then covered with drywall and the edges are finished so drywall butts right up to it. Then you run some mud and sand and paint the wall color. Hope this helps some poor unsuspecting DIYers and saves them some future headaches.

Thanks, I was skeptical the moment I heard something about plastic covers over screws. That sort of thing never lasts. And one place I was in had vinyl sheet glued directly to drywall which started cracking because it wasn't done *perfectly* (something I don't have the skill to do, if anyone does).

Hi, what are your thoughts on using vinyl trim to frame the shower? Also, could you put silicone over the screws and then place the plugs over it? I have a smaller version of this shower that I’m installing. I have cement board in the alcove and I’m about ready to install the walls.

Excellent video. Was thinking if you already had finished walls you are adhering the vinyl walls To you could draw a line from the top of your walls And cut the bottom part of the waterproofed sheetrock Out and the base would then have the lip inside Of the sheetrock and it wouldnt bulge out at the bottom

Ok, so I’m by no means a professional but I noticed a few things that may cause some issues down the road…shower pans are supposed to be nailed to studs not drywall. Water barrier should have been applied to drywall then the siding. Not sure about the small openings above the shower pan. Silicone/caulking overtime will fail which is why these steps are important and will need to be reapplied at some point. Again I’m no professional just some things I’ve noticed. Bad ass shower faucet by the way, I’m definitely getting that for my mom. I hope the shower is holding up well.

Water-resistant Sheetrock will work as it doesn't come in prolonged or direct contact with water. the green sheetrock I used was designed to be used in bathrooms and anywhere water may reach it. Regular sheetrock will disintegrate after getting wet a few times but if you do a good job installing the shower and sealing up the joint, there should be no issues with the green water-resistant sheetrock. The cement board or Kerdi Board would also work if you are concerned about it.

You seem to not understand what the "self leveling" layer was supposed to do since it turned more into a "mortar bed". I guess as long as you are happy with the outcome.

Isn't it suppose to level the base foundation so that you have a leveled tub/shower? I'm super paranoid about water and water damage, leveling your work is key in preventing pooling. I guess with prefab showers, there's no real hole for water to leak through unless there's a hole.

I don't understand why the instructions say to partially screw in the corner piece and then slide the panels into the corner behind the corner piece. It is seems easier to install the panels first where they need to be, then screw in the corner piece on top of them. I am in the process of installing the Dreamline panels in a small corner shower. Just one corner and two panels.

Does it have cement board? or is it exposed studs and insolation? This type of shower needs some type of backing to give it strength. However, the fiberglass showers are much more rigid and don't need the support from a backing like sheetrock or cement board. However I would check with the manufacturers recommendations to double check and see if it needs some type of moisture barrier to seal it. Thanks!

Question: We are installing something similar. Same base, but we noticed that the lip/edge of our base is not flush with the walls on the right and left side. There is a 1/4 gap on each side so there is not reason to cut out the bottom of the drywall. Our concern is that the plastic surround wall will butt out at the bottom since it's not flush. I could not tell in your video if your install was the same or not. It appeared as if your pan edges were underneath the walls.
@SimonSaysDIY
@SimonSaysDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is helpful for the cement board or drywall to hang over bast the lip of the base. If not the walls will have to bow in at the bottom and may cause issues for you. You could possibly fix this by using 1/4 inch hardy board or cement board to build it out on the sides that don’t over hang the base. That may give you enough to keep the walls from butting out.

Thanks for the video but I do have a question and I hope you can answer. I’m looking to renovate my bathroom as well but I have seen some ppl lay like a plastic covering under the shower (like the floor part) before inserting the shower but I see you didn’t. Is that part necessary or no because it seems like you don’t but I just want to be sure.
@SimonSaysDIY
@SimonSaysDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! it is a good safety measure to use a vapor barrier between the shower and the walls and floor this is mainly to protect from small leaks and build-up of moisture. However, the way this shower is designed it is glued directly to the wall so no moisture barrier can't be used for this. (I used water board sheetrock behind the shower walls) For the floor panel, I skipped the vapor barrier because if there is a leak then it will rot out ether way. The plastic really won't save the floor if you have leaks. If you install the shower properly and seal it, you shouldn't need the vapor barrier.

Kerdi board has alot of give in it, the adhesive to the plastic panels will pop off over time or if you bump into the wall good. Better off with green board or cement board and then with the Schluter system for the corners and edges. Plastic panels go over that and then you have two levels of protection when the silicone fails on the plastic panels in 5+ years.
