Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzfaq.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Thanks. I went ahead and ordered a 18000 BTU MrCool unit at Lowes after watching your video. MrCool sells units without the pre-charged lines for about $700 cheaper than the pre-charged line units. Also, the pre-charged line units had 25 feet of copper and I only needed 16 feet that comes with the non pre-charged unit. The condensers are still pre-charged, just not the copper lines. I could not get any HVAC companies to vacuum the system. They only will do it if they install the units. I was replacing a 14 year old mini split that I installed and so I was not going to pay a HVAC company big bucks to install the new unit. I ordered the Amazon pump, hoses and adapter that you linked to in the description. Thanks for the great video!

Man, big ups to you for making this video. This was my go-to for my installation. There were little things you breezed through, but I figured them out; and anyone with half a brain ought to be able to with some additional research. You saved me 2800$. And no, I'm not tendering a check to you for 2800$. But I do thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this--it's one of the clearest, most concise installation videos on here.

Just an update. My system went dry the day after the installation and I had to call someone out. I had pumped the line for 35 minutes and watched it for 40...It was a slow leak, evidently, because the needle on my gauge never moved and I used the unit for an hour or so the same day as installation. Anyway, the HVAC guy detected refrigerant at the head unit and suggested I order another one. Senville answered my request and sent another within a few days (without asking for an installation invoice or even asking who installed it). A few things the HVAC guy said: one, teflon tape is wholly unnecessary if your line is already insulated; just zip tie everything together for organization sake. Two:run the lineset through the wall; don't swing out your line attached to the head unit; that way, if the lineset is pinched or damaged somehow, you are out a lot less money. Otherwise, I followed this installation procedure and everything was good.

Great job/video for DIY homeowner installs. Couple things from a PRO. Leaving your flare connections buried in the wall is asking for trouble. if you ever develop a leak down the road, you would have to tear the wall apart to fix. Also, before vacuuming you should always pressure test with nitrogen(300-400psi), followed by a quick soap bubble test. if no bubbles are found after 5-10min.....then ill hook up the vacuum and pump down(you should be using a micron gauge and getting the unit below 500 microns/Timed rise test). W/o doing this, you still have the possibility of small leaks, and then, at the end of summer, after everything has been buttoned up, you notice your cooling just isn't as cold anymore. week later, and its not cold at all and the lineset is frozen(Newer mini splits all usually have low refrigerant sensors and will not run when the unit is not above a certain threshold, so it most likely will quit before the lines freeze up). Mini splits are so easy to install, which is why your seeing them marketed as DIY projects more and more, but there still are a couple things you have to get right on first attempt OR its a pain in the ass. I always recommend the flare tight gaskets when a homeowner is doing it himself. Would also recommend waiting for the flare tool, rather than leaving the coiled up lineset tucked up behind the condenser. just not a fan of how it looks aesthetically and I've seen way to many people, kids, and gardeners that have yanked on it, hit with lawn mower/weed eater, accidentally stepped on and kinked the lines and not the system has a restriction. I got called on one where a boy just literally pulled so hard on it, it busted off and he got lit up with refrigerant in the face. Anyway, now I'm just rambling, don't mean to take anything away from you brother. Great DIY for first timers video, covered a lot of stuff people should know. awesome job man

Thanks for posting, Just got mine and unpacking things. Having to add a new sub panel as I'm out of breaker room. Also it's to dang cold outside right now. Speaking of cold- I sure hope you opened the wall back up and re insulated. !! I was expecting you to spray foam insulation in there or pack it with Fiberglass. You didn't seems to even seal around the pipes with silicon. I'm not a professional but I've watched a few of these installed by qualified people. Another important detail was you never mounted the unit to the concrete pad. Most would use some rubber bushing and lag bolts. Your unit could fall over in a windstorm or vandalism.

Hey Thanks for the video ! Appreciate it, getting ready to install one myself. Just wanted to make one comment about a tip I picked up from another guys installation. Regarding the extra length of copper cooling pipe. You should never let the extra pipe rolled up like that because that creates areas at the bottom of each loop where the coolant can collect and pool up. You don't want that. Instead, he suggested that you unroll all the extra piping and run it for example up and down inside the wall, or run it up and then over in like a l-shaped pattern. That way you avoid those potential pooling spots in the pipes. Or even better cut the extra length out of course, but you have to have the flaring kit, etc. Thanks again for the vid.

so first we need to open the valve on hose connected side after connecting the vacuum hose (this was not shown on video) then close that valve before turning off vacuum pump (also not show on video) then open the High side valve(the one without the vacuum hose) then again open the low side valve and in last remove the vacuum hose, right? one thing more, what if entire Freon is being recharged then do we also need to open the high side valve in addition to low side valve for full vacuum of evaporator, condenser and line set?

Great video, Senville instructions should almost be ignored at some point because they are misleading. the scematic with my unit showed how to wire a 110v unit while I had an 18000 btu 220v unit. The quick shot of your wiring saved me a lot of time. This unit is pretty much diy but people take your time. I had to order the longer 25ft lineset. unit was installed in a vaulted ceiling situation and I had to go through about 14 ft of attic and out the wall and down. I pitched the wiring and drain bundle down before going out the wall for proper drainage. Quite a bit of water goes through the line as I am in a humid area.

Good overview but I would have like to see more specifics and the stuff that is actually difficult with this installation. How tight to tighten the compression fittings, how do you setup your vacuum gauges, how do you measure for mounting the indoor bracket for proximity to the hole in the wall....
@swmgec
@swmgec 4 жыл бұрын
Dude, I just installed one and it's the little things that killed me on time and consideration. Even my mount was a pain; it didn't match any of the models or types listed in my instruction booklet. I managed to cut the hole in the wall perfectly, and I didn't have problems with my line set, but wiring became an issue because I bought the 110v version and yet we bought all the items on the above listing...meaning the disconnect was for 240V and I had to work with it. Configuring the pump, stripping outdoor cable insulation and a handful of other things taken for granted required some little research. Finding answers is difficult, and everyone who is a pro is such a supercilious dickhead when it regards their field of expertise. They act like laymen can do nothing, but I saved myself 2800$ doing this myself.

with the bracket still mounted on the unit, find the location of the big hole, take off the bracket, straighten the line set put bracket back on, and measure the hole location(make sure you miss the stud here at the big hole. wire in the communication wire now. put the drain line at the bottom or side of the 3 pipes. tape them together. stick it out of the hole. make sure the bracket is tight to the drywall. now, do not kink that copper, take a full can of beer and use this to fold the big copper line, cut the jacket to look at your bend(this will fuck up the whole job here if kinked)now as far as tight, the little copper line needs 12lb torque, the big one needs 26lb torque(if you tighten the shit out of the little pipe, the flare will crack on you. Go ahead and hook up the vacuum pump before you cover up that line set. most repairs happen when you lose your charge, leaker. the issue happens when you let the coil get covered with lint or the blower wheel carries a bunch of stuff. you can buy a coil cleaner in a compressed air can, you can remove the blower wheel and hose it off, you can clean the outdoor coil with canned cleaner, and rinse it off with a garden hose. error codes- main control board outdoor- remote low battery. no 410a in the system.

I join others in thanking you for posting this video. It takes the unknown and concern out of this type of AC installation. I have one question: How flexible are the lines? Can they easily bend (without kinking) from, say, and 4" framed ceiling to a 4" stud wall? Since that's a pretty tight transition I guess I'm trying to determine how tight a curve you can put in the copper lines. Hopefully that's something you can answer. Thanks again.
@GDanielCho
@GDanielCho 2 жыл бұрын
I just went through this and they are not very flexible, you cannot run them 90 degrees without a bender that costs roughly 200 dollars. I almost kinked the lineset coming off the indoor head unit and decided to use the empty space above the build out of the kitchen cabinet. Hanging it on a interior wall poses challenges a diy cannot do unless you spend professional money on specialty trade tools. But then again I have the 24k btu and the thicker line set diameter is even hard to bend with specialty tools.

@brianpeksa2192
@brianpeksa2192 4 жыл бұрын
Disconnect is easy, man. If you have a 220V unit, the lines and loads will be separated over the two wiring halves inside. If you have a 110V unit, there's only one line and load with which to contend. Everything is labeled in the boxes--it's intuitive. I had never wired anything to my breaker box, but it was very easy. The hard thing was dropping the wire down through the hole in the framing and finding it in the wall to bring outside. I have attic access in my garage, where I installed the unit, so it wasn't too bad. Depending on your application, however, getting the power from your box to the disconnect might be a logistical problem. P.s. You're rich, dude. Get someone else to install your A/C so you can go play with the band.

@@brianpeksa2192 Thanks for the info. That's great, I shouldn't have any trouble with the wire. I am going through the wall from my breaker panel in my basement then into the dirt and all the way to the outdoor unit. I'll have to get the wire meant to be buried. Just waiting until I actually recieve the senville units I ordered before I buy all the equipment to install. Hopefully they get here before winter lol. Yea I may be a rich fancy pants musician but I am cheap as hell, besides if you want something done right do it yourself.

How’s it working 2 years later? My understanding (from another KZfaq video) is the senville is built by the same manufacturer as others like mr cool. The only thing I haven’t done yet is flaring. I prefer to do the non diy (from mr cool) so you don’t end up with the excess line set. I bought all the tools when I did my central ac in my old condo so I have everything but a flare kit.

Great job, but I'm pretty sure looping the lineset creates an oil trap and thats frowned up in the instructions. It makes oil literally get trapped amd camt make it back to be "condensed" at your outside unit. They will still run, but not considered best piping practices in the field. Good job though!

The line-set needs to be filled with refrigerant so not to loose the vacuum when the hose is pulled off. If there is no refrigerant in the line-set air will be sucked back in. A small amount of refrigerant will come out which is normal. The gauge is turned off and there is only a small amount in the gauges line.

Depends. Senville units have a master valve setup you use on units with 3 zones and up. You then have to open the other valves and can do it all at once. But I wouldn't do that unless you have verified there are no leaks.

Great videos thank you !!! I'm still a little confused on the line vacuuming- if possible could you do a more detailed video on that process? I have questions like - when you opened the coolent valves and THEN unhooked the blue lowside vac line why didnt coolent blast out? and then just some basic process questions - how fo you know which line to use Red or blue - Ive never hooked up a vac pump (can you tell)? Great video They are really helpful.

There's a valve in the service port that's very similar to a car's tire. When you remove the connection, a small amount escapes, but then the valve seals.

@@TheKiltedHam lower your prices and you'd be surprised how many people just might. I've been doing construction for 40 years and I'll be damned if I can make the kind of money Hvac company's charge for installing these units for the amount of time it takes and the investments they need to make. I've got quotes of 3500 and 2800 for this simple install once you know how. Please!!!

The system needs to be in a vacuum before releasing the refrigerant, so will need to be pumped down with a vacuum pump and gauges. There are low-cost pumps and gauges, I put the links in the description for the budget units I used.

remove the moving vanes, find a hidden screw, cover with a plastic tab at the front bottom, make sure to disconnect the display panel take out 1 screw. there are tabs on the top of the unit, lift plastic now pull forward, and done.

best to run the line set outside. there will be a time you need a complete service of the indoor coil cleaning. cost about $700 to clean and reset

Not an expert... I've read that every State in the USA requires an electrical disconnect near the outside unit for protection of anyone who might ever service the unit in future. The repair person can be certain that the electricity is turned off.

Never loop the line set in a vertical position it'll cause an oil trap and your compressor will go bad. You can loop them in a horizontal position however.

I contacted Mr. Cool, a company that makes a lot of these mini splits; they said it's okay to coil up either way (horizontal or vertical) and no problems. It's a wives tale that the oil will starve the compressor.

If you don't have a vacuum pump, you beg, borrow, or buy one. Period. They are now a whole lot cheaper than paying someone to do it, if you know what you are doing. But USE a vacuum pump. It's the only smart thing to do.

Everything should be vacuumed, but without a micron gauge you have no idea if you actually have a good evacuation. Don't skimp out, buy one for $200 or used for less then sell afterwards.
