Soooo much more helpful than the supplied instruction manual and the non-existent tutorial on the Home Depot site.

Wonderful step by step video. Only 1 step missing but a no brainer obvious one. The fan motor where it spins is shipped with 5 rubber safety gromits which must be removed via access hole in order to release the motor. You can't install the blade arms without this step. I only mention it because I originally thought the motor was stuck or hindered when I first unpacked the fan and tried to spin the fan manually until I noticed the obvious. ALSO -- in terms of attaching the blade arms. There is only 1 access hole. Aligning and screwing from underneath is uncomfortable and time consuming. It didn't seem much heavier to screw the blade arms into the fan motor before dropping the ball into the ceiling mounting brqcket. I just flipped the fan motor upside down and screwed the blade arms to the fan with the motor on my lap. It took all of less than 2 minutes with no ladders, flashlights, Etc. AGAIN -- this video was a great tutorial and saved me a ton of time trying to weed thru a ton of directions. THANKS

I'm assuming this model cannot be installed without the downrod for a more, flush/close mount. I've looked all around and am not able to find any info about installation options, only that it can be installed on straight or angled ceilings. Even the installation guide doesn't list anything about mounting it closer to the ceiling without the downrod.
@ceilingfans101
@ceilingfans101 3 жыл бұрын
That is correct - this fan does not have a flush-mount option and must be installed with a downrod.

Do I have to remove the entire fan to set the dip switch? The installer didn’t adjust and now both fans work on the same remote.
@ceilingfans101
@ceilingfans101 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. You do not need to remover the entire fan to set the dip switches. You just need to remove the canopy to be able to access the receiver. Please make sure you power is off at the breaker and wall switch before doing this. The canopy installation is shown in the video (9:35 mark) just watch the canopy and canopy ring installation and then do the reverse to remove it. The receiver can be accessed once the canopy is removed and then the dip switches can be changed.

If I don't want to have the receiver and just want to control the light & fan in the conventional means from a double rocker light switch on the wall, is this possible with the Riley fan? If so, what is my wiring? Is it as simple as removing the white connector and wiring white to white, black to black, and green to copper? Will that give me independent control of left switch to light and right switch to fan?
@ceilingfans101

We have to say that we are not licensed electricians and we have to recommend contacting a licensed electrician for any alternate wiring methods. That being said, if you remove the wire harness plug from the fan, you will be left with 3 wires from the fan: Black (fan speed power), blue (light power) and white (neutral). In general, what you said is correct, but the blue wire would have to be connected to a power supply (switch wire). Please note that if you are just using on/off switches, the fan will only operate on high speed and you will not be able to adjust the speed of the fan. If you replace one of the toggle switches with a speed control, it must be a variable speed control, not a dimmer. Using a dimmer switch to control fan speed will eventually damage the motor.
@daved3342
@daved3342 Жыл бұрын
@@ceilingfans101 Thank you for getting back to me so quickly and for the added info on the variable speed control - very helpful. One last question -- you mentioned "blue wire would have to be connected to a power supply (switch wire)". Can you elaborate on this? Is it just a matter of pairing the blue wire with the black wire and connecting both of them to the black wire in the ceiling?
@ceilingfans101
@ceilingfans101 Жыл бұрын
@@daved3342 If you want to control to control the light and fan independently, you would need separate switch power wires - these are typically black or red wires. You would connect the fan black to one switch wire, and then connect the fan blue to the other switch wire. This would let you turn the fan and light on/off with the separate switches. If you just want to use one switch for both, then you would connect the fan's black and blue wires to one switch wire.

I have three wires plus the ground in the ceiling. A black, white, and red plus ground. The reciever only has black and white and ground. The red wire was connected to the previous fan that I removed. What do I do with the red wire?
@ceilingfans101
@ceilingfans101 3 жыл бұрын
We're not licensed electricians and have to suggest calling one for wiring questions. That said, a red wire is typically a switch wire. If that is the case and the red wire is connected to a standard on/off switch, you can cap the house black wire and connect the receiver black wire to the red wire. This would allow you to turn the fan and light on/off using the switch. Alternatively, you could cap the red house wire and connect the receiver directly to the house black wire. Again, we'd suggest consulting with a licensed electrician if you are unsure about the wiring.

I just ran into this issue installing the same fan, what did you end up doing with the red wire?
@bendaniels2726
@bendaniels2726 3 жыл бұрын
@@briennearellano3426 the other wire is four the second light switch on the wall. My electrician friend told me to choose one of the two wires and cap off the other. This will have one light switch supply power to the fan and the light, and then you just use the remote for control of what is on. Hope this helps.
@ceilingfans101
@ceilingfans101 3 жыл бұрын
@@briennearellano3426 we would suggest just capping the red wire. Alternatively, if your red wire is a standard on/off switch wire, you can cap off the house black wire and use the red instead. If you are not sure about your house's wiring, we'd suggest contacting a licensed electrician to make sure it is connected properly.

Installation went fine but I can't dim the lights. Any ideas?
@ceilingfans101
@ceilingfans101 Жыл бұрын
Please check that the O/D switch in the battery compartment of the remote (shown at the 6:29 mark) is set to the D setting to enable the dimming function. With that switch set to the D setting, you should be able to press and hold the light button on the remote to cycle through the brightness settings. Then, release the button once the desired brightness level is reached.

I'm wondering if you have the same blade arms, like if someone returned the item with different blade arms before you purchased it. The alignment post should insert into the long slot at the base of the motor as shown at the 10:29 mark. None of the blade arms are able to be attached?

@@ceilingfans101 Thanks for your quick reply. I stumbled across the answer, which is there are five rubber packing blocks screwed to the motor which have to be removed. I took a screenshot of the video and noticed the absence of the packing blocks! That's when the penny dropped🙏 To be fair there is a small label telling you to remove them, but I completely missed it before hanging the unit.

The receiver should have one set of wires with a wire harness plug and one set of wires that are separate wires to connect to the wires from the ceiling. The receiver will have a white wire (neutral) and a red wire for power. If it does not have a red wire, it will have a black wire for power. If you receiver does not have either a black or red power wire, it will need to be replaced. A replacement can be ordered by calling Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-434-2678.
