I can't stand removing my slip fit exhaust pipes! Time to fix that... I'm installing Summit Racing's Premium Exhaust V Band Clamps, directly in front of the exhaust cans, so I can easily remove my X Pipe system to maintain the transmission, or in this case, remove the engine for an overhaul. Stay tuned for that, by subscribing below.

Nice GTO; never been tempted to sell mine, but always loved the ‘67 - ‘73 Pontiacs. Absolutely great looking cars. Still own the ‘68 Charger I bought in 1984. Took it home as a 318/hubcap car. Immediately put a Thermoquad on the motor, 3” dual exhaust with H-pipe/ turn downs, and .456 gears. Fun, but not enough torque. By 1990 it was a 440/4-speed/4-piston disc brake car. Picked up all the better ‘68 options at Carlisle. Built the motor to 525ci/700hp@7000; that turned it into a completely different car. In 2004 I built a 572 EFI Gen2 Hemi, and I put the car on a tube frame chassis. Motor plate, mid plate, 335/18 tires on all 4 corners, 14” brakes, T56 trans, 3-link rear. Got the weight down to 2800lbs, motor is at 850hp@6500 and the rear gears are .488. It’s a low 8 second car. Never can decide wether these cars are more fun to drive, work on, or to entertain a smoking hot blond in the back seat.

Thanks Brother... thanks for sharing the build history of your Charger... that's awesome. I was actually contemplating going to a 525 on this next build, but the budget is too tight. Maybe next year. I prefer Brunette's ... ha, ha... thanks for the comment!

Use a hose clamp to do a straight cut. Also 12” disc sander is a life saver on leveling cuts Keep us posted when it’s running again about leaks at v band. Good job.

Have a 72 Chevelle SS BB. Building a 486 for it. Sits low so researching full length header that’s tucked up higher than crossmember. Will order it bare and cut their collector off and weld on v bands. Then send out to jet-hot. Did you get warpage? One guy used a thick block of aluminum jet se the v band on and took his time. Also an upper end shop said use a flat piece of glass with a light behind the the v band on it to see if there’s warpage. Videos like yours are a great info to add to the memory bank ! Lol 😂

Great Build you got there! I'm super low too, and go through that pain all the time. (Currently in the middle of a Currie swap, and have my own new set of challengees... L) I did not get any warpage. As you saw, I welded them on with the mating component attached to act as a heat sink. I don't think I'd do anything differently next time around... well, besides getting a disc grinder. ha, ha... OH, have you seen my low profile band clamps? They're awesome for us Low Riders.... here's the video; kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jKiHqpOgyNilg4U.html Have fun! @@hipoman8087

I honestly don't know... I have never seen anyone use a MIG welder for tubular work. So, I'd stick with TIG.

Good question Don, they're awesome! BUT, if you're referring to the header to exhaust flange, you need these... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jKiHqpOgyNilg4U.html They'll allow you to pivot the exhaust for perfect alignment. Have fun, and let us know how it goes.

You need to use Solar Flux or back-purge and more gas for that stainless, welds looking a bit crusty. Constructive criticism :)

It's not a huge deal, but.. weld the v band to a stub pipe, then slip it into the muffler - not for you this time! Heh... For one, it gives you a degree or two of wiggle room. And if you need to replace the muff, you're not throwing out the v band!
