@@karalmom5669 to do a hamstring stretch, you put your leg on an elevated position like a bench and your other leg's feet should point towards the bench. Then you move your whole upper body forward towards your legs and don't bend your upper back too much. Now you should feel the stretch. You may need to experiment with your foot and leg placement to get a better stretch.

Foam roller is self-massage, it works to work out kinks and inflammation in your muscles and loosen you up. It works wonders and also helps reduce soreness in your body to help ya recover faster. Hence why it's good for MMA or anything active.

I hope you do well if you (continue to) pursue a career in mixed martial arts. I've had the dream since I was 17 but then I hurt my back with a severely pinched nerve. Now finally after almost 9 years I've had the luck to cross paths with an amazing chiropractor and after 6 months of seeing him he has healed me, my dream is alive again. I'm 26 now but this is something I have to do. I'm vastly underskilled but I hope I can grow and eventually compete. Keep the videos coming please bro. Chris

Good workout. Regarding static stretching, I recommend to do each stretch 2 minutes to get best results. Plus taking turns flexing your agonist and antagonist muscles while stretching. For example the hamstring stretch: While stretching pull the feet towards your body using your muscles and hold that for 10 seconds, then do the same with pushing your feet forward into your hands trying to build a resistance that you push your feet into, 10 seconds again. Then go a bit lower into the stretch. Repeat. You will feel how your muscles loosen up after each muscle flexing phase making you more comfortable to go a bit deeper into the stretch. And remember: DO each stretch for 2 minutes and relax your muscle between the muscle flexing phases. Feel the agonist and antagonist separately. By the way, with the sitting hamstring stretch always make sure you bend forward at the hips with your full upper body straight. You will definitely feel the difference in the hamstrings, even if you got the feeling that you cannot get down to your legs that far. It's okay. Do not make a bump in your back while stretching. Shane does it absolutely correctly, I just want to hint to that important aspect again. Wish you good results. Keep it up!

My hamstrings are unhealthily tight. If I sit on the ground leaned back with my hands on the ground behind me I'm already stretching them. Then if I sit straight up I can't feel my toes.

bob ross sit on the edge of a bed or couch, stretch one leg forward to the ground whilst keeping 1 leg in a normal 90 degree angle from the ground. Aim your toes towards your face. Turn your pelvis slowly till you feel the stretch. It's a beginner stretch

Having to do numerous exercises to warm up your muscles before being able to kick is like the equivalent of a soldier having to always sit down and assemble his gun every time he encounters an enemy. In both cases the person should be always ready. The fighter should be able to kick cold (if he has to) just as the soldier should always be ready to fire his gun immediately. I read that on an article somewhere. Don't remember but I think its great advice. Once you start kicking high when warmed up don't quit. Keep on stretching to the point where your muscles can kick high with out any warm up if needed.

Shane, thank you for all of your great videos. I just subscribed to your channel and will encourage my friends to do the same. I just began Muay Thai training two months ago and your tips and advice are invaluable and better yet, they corroborate and reinforce everything our coaches tell us at the gym. You really know your stuff. Thanks again.

Hey Shane! I train boxing 6 days a week. In every session, I do mitts, hit the heavy bag, shadow box, skip rope, lift weights, and I spar once a week. With that being my workout routine, should I invest in a pair of boxing boots or just buy high cut basketball shoes?
