Thank you! This video of yours was very helpful in finding the Joists/Studs! I was just kind of hopeful that I could do it without a stud finder and then here is your video! God is good. Thank you, Drew.

Found this video, grabbed a bunch of magnets and a ladder, and had my ceiling joists located quickly. Thanks so much for the simple demonstration.

Thanks Drew … Thinking of installing some spotlights. Because of your intuition I’ll be able to bore a hole through the ceiling confidently 👊

Thank you, Drews House. We are working on our magnets right now. Is there any strength in particular? Or any. regular should do?

This method is a lifesaver! However, how can I find the middle of the joist ? I would like to hang a hanging chair and I would like to make a hole in the middle of the joist to make sure that the screw will hold well and that the wood will not crack ,like, for example, I screw too much at the edge . Also , most hanging chair support screws are 7-8cm long, is this too long? I mean, is there a possibility of touching any cable passing through the joist? I would greatly appreciate your help.

Thanks for your comment, I can't guarantee you will get the middle exactly but the best chance you have is to find as many screws in that joist as you can. Put a dot on each then go for the average by using a straight edge and you will get very close to the centre. Hope that helps, let me know if I've explained it badly

Once you've located your joist and provided it is, A, accessible and, B, strong enough to take the added weight, you can fix timber to either side of it. I hope that helps and thanks for the comment

I bought 2 differwnt stud finders. Lol I have a 3 car garage and hunging a 10ft strut rail to hung punching bags rings and a rope on my 8ft ceiling. I think I found joist. They running parallel to garage doors and are 24" apart, however after finding center of each joist they are 1" wide🙄 I tought they were at least 2" wide?? Iam using 3" 3/8 bolts.. My house was built in 2005

I've never come across a 1" joist, it wouldn't meet building regulations

Wood is not magnetic 😅 Are you fishing for screws or the joist hangers? Youre not clear about that... if there arent any hangers and youre fishing for screw heads, you could spend hours looking.
