This DIY mechanics creeper is a super useful project to have around your garage or workshop. Whether you're modifying or servicing your car, this simple, quick project can be made for around $30 and is easily customisable to best suit your own needs. If you're using scrap wood you can make it for even less!

Inspiration for this episode came from watching some really bad videos on how to make garage creepers, and some good ones including one by Bob at I Like to Make Stuff who has loads of great woodworking projects.
Also something to note around Mighty Car Mods: we are normal guys and are not trained mechanics. We like to make interesting car mods and show you how we've gone about it, but we can't promise that anything we show you will work for your particular car, or that you won't harm yourself, someone else, your car or your warranty doing it. Please be safe, be responsible and unless you know what you're doing, do not fool around with very serious machinery just because you've seen us make it look so easy. Talk to a qualified mechanic if you are in any doubt.

That is a very inspiring idea. I have one of these plastic creepers. I am still working using car ramps, so I found out rather fast, that I need an adjustable neck rest, which would be a nice addition to such a DIY creeper.

Who needs a creeper? I keep my floor clean, and when it’s not, I lay on cardboard. My creepers are just taking up room and collecting dust. Save your money and get a mechanic’s stool/chair. It’s a back saver doing brakes or working on doors, and good for when you’re trying to figure out how to fix what broke.

I'm sure I'm the only one: I actually can't stand using creepers. If you have a low car, it makes things a bit difficult, because every inch matters. Also, if your undoing tight bolts like axle bolts or something, the wheels don't allow you to sit stationary. I have a creeper, but use cardboard instead. Allows me to sit a bit more comfortably, but without the negatives of a creeper.
@alwyzbrknsaab5485
@alwyzbrknsaab5485 6 жыл бұрын
Layne White I use my creeper sometimes, but most of the time I don't. when I replaced the downpipe on my Saab I couldn't stand using a creeper, but when I do shit like replaced side skirts and random shit that doesnt require alot of muscle to take off bolts I use a creeper. just all depends what I'm doing. so I guess I can agree
@Coen80
@Coen80 6 жыл бұрын
My creeper has 'fixed' wheels (only move forward backward) height is always an issue, but stands solve that just fine. The wheels, because they dont turn, make it slightly harder to get the creeper exactly in the right spot, but then i get leverage to undo bolts.
@TheTalonts
@TheTalonts 6 жыл бұрын
I usually use cardboard if anything at all, but in FL, I don't USUALLY have to worry about ass-freezing concrete. It's 23degF here right now, so the cardboard would be right out.

I use a camping mat. I did just buy a creeper to replace the front driveshaft in my MB but even with the low pro creeper I was far too tight under the car and went back to the mat. A creeper is nice on higher things though, like SUVs and trucks.

But you dont need to buy the ryobi tools to make it :D I can guarantee you most people have a hand saw and a drill of some sort at home and that's pretty much all you need.

I bought a whole set of Makita tools, including power drill, jigsaw, circular saw, LED lamp, radio, battery charger, flexy-stand for LED lamp, 3 batteries and spare-parts for the saws, all in a nifty transportable box for 300€ including taxes. Got them from a local wholesaler, who had this set on display, so the only disadvantage was that they were sometimes used for demonstration but that's it. Normally that entire set would have costed 490€ excluding taxes. (583.10€ incl. tax) There are two rules for buying tools: 1. Never buy cheap, get some proper quality 2. As soon as you have tools with batteries from one brand, stick to that brand

Paul Phoenix *10^-2 of the standard metre. It’s more accurate to use smaller standard measurements when constructing so using a standard 1m ruler with 1cm intervals is appropriate for this build.

Slugworth It’s just called the metric system. It’s not like the mm is a superior of the cm. You’ve got millimeter, centimeter, decimeter, meter, hectometer, kilometer.. all metric measurements. 0.1cm is just as precise as 1mm.
