Three comments about the electrical work. 1. Wire your bulbs in a parallel circuit. If you have them in series and one bulb burns out, the circuit is broken and all the other bulbs go off and no longer provide heat. In parallel, the remaining bulbs will continue to be on and provide heat. 2. Buy a 30 $ thermostat that can be set at the required temperature, say 160 F. It will turn your bulbs on and off when the temperature goes above the set temperature. Get a digital one that shows both the set temperature and the actual one. 3. Make sure your light sockets are ceramic or at least rated for use where the bulbs hang down. The ones used in floor lamps, etc. can actually catch fire if hung upside down. I've seen it happen only once, but that was once too many.

I would have used Light fixtures made for the warming bulbs so it is more durable and yes a $25-$30 Thermostat made for something would be nice for the bow box that I would have to regulate the electricity better.

Love watching your channel.. As a retired cabinet maker and museum fabricator may I suggest that any future projects that require hanging, that you use French clears or as we called them pinch cleats.. Makes life so much easier.. Look them up and I am sure you will find many ways to use them in your shop..

Great design. Check out ceramic heat bulbs for reptiles, probably more efficient than lightbults and screw into the same socket!
@mckenziekeith7434
@mckenziekeith7434 4 жыл бұрын
Inside a closed box, all lightbulbs are 100% efficient at converting electricity to heat. Maybe the reptile ones will last longer, though and be more reliable.

If it isn't getting hot enough, you can just add foam insulation on the outside to avoid eating up your usable interior space. Any kind of foam insulation from the big box hardware store. Styrofoam or polyisocyanurate. You can glue it to the outside of the box with epoxy or construction adhesive. Some construction adhesives will dissolve Styrofoam so read the label before you use it to make sure it is compatible. I build a plywood/Styrofoam box with a thermostat inside to keep my unmixed epoxy at room temperature when my workshop is at 45F. Because of the thermostat I can just leave it plugged in all the time. I only have one 40 Watt bulb so even if the thermostat malfunctioned, it wouldn't get THAT hot. You may not need insulation on the back wall. It would be too much of a pain in the but to take it down and add more insulation there. But you could maybe insulate the back wall on the inside of the box if you think you need it.

You could hang a shop light from the bottom of the box for your workbench. Wire it from the box switch to another switch. Use a box that can hold two switches and and extra outlet.

I am thinking of making a box since I might be doing some Bow modification and making some higher pound bows from two lower poundage all fiberglass bows by gluing them together like Two Titan Bows to have a ~50 pound bow (single Titan would be 25 pounds) for my 24-25 inch draw length since these bows go from 22-28 inch draw. Yes I would have to modify the two handles to be one longer handle but I think I could easily do this and have a bow at my poundage, if not then I have a really heavy bow that I need to trim the inner bow up to have the right weight.

Hi Kramer! I really enjoy your videos. I, too, have a garage shop -- and always trying to organize my tools and benches. About that heat box ... is it necessary to have it permanently up on that wall? Seems like maybe you could use a French cleat system to temporarily put it on the wall when you need to heat stuff ... but otherwise keep the heat box somewhere in a corner ... so that you have more working space on the bench below where you mounted the heat box. Just a suggestion. Keep the faith!

Looks good dude. Couple of suggestions tho: 1: a thermal regulator. Something that measures the internal temp and cuts power when the oven is too hot and kicks back on when oven too cool. 2: an LED strip that lights up when oven is on.

I use indoor flood 120 watt 130 volt, not led and you will get more than enough heat. Also with that 100 watt 120 volt house bulb also not led. Kramer did you find some good bulbs yet! If not let me know my company still has some of the flood incandescent lamps I can ship to you. You will definitely get the heat out of these.

When I first saw the title of this video, I thought you were talking about making an oven to steam heat wood so you could bend it, like a luthier or guitar maker bends the sides of an instrument. Nice build. Just out of curiosity, do you think pre-bending the limbs of a recurve bow with heat would be a viable option?

Yo total novice here, currently working on two bows. One hickory stave with hickory riser and boo backing, thinking about making it a flat bow. Other one is a laminated angular r/d hybrid bow Egyptian style. I don't have a table saw or circular saw. So after I do the glue up and use a lumber pencil to draw my taper, what else could I use to cut those long vertical lines running the whole length of my limbs? Just a hacksaw for wood or what other options do I have

Great job my friend. I just found your channel and like your work. Congratulations. 'One thing: Why do you think is necessary a heat box to cure the epoxi?? I think the EA40 don´t need it. Just wait 24 - 48 hrs. and it's ready to continue the work. I laminated a few bows and the curation of the resine never was the problem in the sucess or failure of a bow. ;)

I see in the comments that you haven't quite reached the temp you're looking for. I'm looking to reach about 140-150 for my purposes. What temp have you been able to reach? I tried using the infrared heat lamp bulbs but they were so sensitive 3 of them in a row burnt out almost immediately so I'm afraid to use them again. $$$ Plus they didn't seem to get hot enough, although I only used one bulb at a time. I hadn't tried combining them nor mounting them inside a box.

@@kramerammonsarchery I look forward to hearing/seeing? your results. I had the hardest time with the red, Phillips 250 Watt heat bulbs. They kept burning out almost immediately after turning on. I had 4 of them. The guy at Home Depot said it was probably from impurities on the glass and to clean them with alsohol and not touch them. But I did that with the second pair and they still burnt out. 🤷‍♀️

@@kramerammonsarchery The red, Phillips 250 Watt heat bulbs can not have fingerprints on them. Must be cleaned before turning them on. like a halogen bulb, oil from fingers will "pop" glass and they will not function.

You should have an electrical box on each of those lights. You should never have open taps in the wire. Its a fire hazard and doesn’t follow electrical codes.
