Thanks for a thorough explanation of what and how you propagate hoyas. It addressed many questions I had, including re-use, opening and closing, acclamation to soil. Also wanted to say, thanks for keeping this chill and now “hyped” with over enthusiasm etc.

I made a prop box using perlite after your first two videos recommending it. Although I normally use water for rooting, the prop box successfully got some of my hoya and tradescantia cuttings to root! It's a fun alternative rooting method to water, especially when I plan to pop the rooted cuttings in with the mother plant. Thanks for continuing to update your community on how your own prop box is doing. 👍

It’s amount of moisture in the perlite that makes the difference. I’ve good luck rooting the Golden Godess, in a plastic cup an spag moss. I cut 1 in by almost 1/4 in holes in two sides of the cup an keep it damp. Hope you try this an hope it works for you. 😀💚

Question: have you ever put a small humidifier meter in the box to see what it’s actually sitting at out of curiosity? Great video too thanks. I have a 1020 container and vented lid with wet sticks in them and was told to keep it at 70%. The only time I get condensation is when it sits at 90% plus and I started getting a little rot on one cutting. Even while opening every day to let more air in (even though there’s vents). So now I leave the box partially open to sit at 70ish always. So I was just really curious to see what your sealed containers sit at without causing rot. Looks like it would be 100% plus?? Thanks 😊

You said it needs a sunny window. Do you mean direct sunny window? Thank you for your video.
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants Жыл бұрын
Mine gets a small little sliver of direct light throughout the day, but that just risks algae. Just place it a bright area and see how it does. Near a window is fine, but it doesn't have to be on a sill or anything like that. Even near a grow light will be perfect.

Have you ever tried to root monstera adansonii, scindapsus or Philadendron Brazil in perlite? I usually water propagate. I have a few plants that need to be cut back and would like to try this method.
@EverythingPlants

Yes I have...scindapsus take so long in water, but once they got placed in perlite it got roots within 2 weeks. The brazil and adansonii would have no issues in the perlite either.

Is it a problem if the leaves touch the perlite with this method? Want to prevent leaf rot!
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants 2 жыл бұрын
I "try" to not let them touch the perlite, but thats almost impossible. Where I really try to prevent contact is with the sides of the container as there is always condensation on the sides.

If u have a Hoya leaf with thrips damage can u safely keep it somehow? I had thrips on a plant, never saw any bugs just the damage and leaves coming out distorted. I'm so sad any advice cut all the leaves and keep the roots?
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants Жыл бұрын
There is damage on the hoya leaves too? Distorted leaves can be from lower humidity....I would isolate it and treat it with a spray (multiple treatments over a few weeks) or use a systemic pesticide if you have it.
