Here's an easy and quick recipe of Indian gooseberries, steam and cooked in sugar syrup flavoured with cardamom. It gives a sweet alternative to pickles.
Amla is super healthy ingredient. It is rich source of antioxidants, Iron, vitamin A, C, fiber, potassium, magnesium, calcium. So it makes a lot of sense to make a batch of this preserve when the fruit is in season, because you can easily store it for more than a couple of months.

Cooking time-25 min + 5 min
Steaming time of amla -8-10 min
Amla- 250gm
Sugar -300gm
Water -250-300ml( for boil, add water if needed)
Cardamom ( elachi)-4-5 no.
