I just made these 20 minutes ago! Followed your recipe with the exception of the cornmeal. I didn't have any, so I used panko with the bread crumb. It was delicious!

My favorite food! But I just use cornmeal, flour, bacon grease and herbs and spices. Hard to find the green ones though but I get the hard pink ones. I can't have a garden or plants on my po4ch where I live so, have to buy them! 😩

I was thinking the same thing. Here in Mississippi you won't find bread crumbs on fried green maters. Usually some combo of flour and cornmeal. Bacon grease is preferred but not necessary. If you get your slices dry enough you don't have to use an egg and milk wash. You can just coat the dry batter on, let sit for 10 minutes, and fry.

I don't even use cornmeal, I just dip in buttermilk and then in seasoned flour. They fry up so nice and golden brown without the gritty texture.
@samuraitoaster Жыл бұрын
@@l.g.2888 Same here. I know cornmeal is used often for this but I really prefer it with just flour. I’ve also never had them with a sauce. I don’t know if that’s “normal” or not but I think they don’t need anything else! Not even a fork lol just pick ‘em up and eat.

Flour? NO! NO! NO! Dredge slices in cornmeal/bread crumbs and place in hot oil until golden brown. Flour insulates the slices from cooking properly.
@SeeburgMusic3 жыл бұрын
Bullshit. Like everything fried is dredged in flour. It has no effect on the cooking of the product.

Just found this because I bought some green tomatoes. Love your recipes, but your choice of Dixie was poor. So much of southern cooking is from the Black community and that music is affront.
