@@dennisbeers According to Redwood National and State Parks dawn redwoods are a species of the Sequoioideae subfamily along with coast redwood and giant sequoia. And you’re right they are not US natives but fossil records indicate that they were found all over the northern hemisphere during the Jurassic period.

Peter i love the way you teach and your philosophy behind it. Love is in the eye of the beholder. Those elitist bonsai growers need to realise we all have different ways of seeing beauty and need to respect our differences not criticise. This only shows them as the weaker person.

Another great video by Peter Chan. I would love If you can share your knowledge with us about moss, how to cultivate, grow and look after it. In my view bonsai is not complete without moss. PS: thank you for your signed boook I received recently from family who attended your workshop as I was unlucky and missed you in Herons.

I collect it, some is very brown, them put a layer of pumice dust that I discard after sifting, it stores lot of water and it's a darker color than perlite, I put it in partial shade during the summer, on a tray it's easy to get it out of the sun, moss likes light so you don't want complete shade, then just mist and give plenty of water.

@@steveanacorteswa3979You are right keep it moist is provably most important as in it's natural habitat in forrest. My moss is looking better during the winter ( I am living in UK) . Through rest of the year I probably failing on this part. But still wondering whether is enough to water it with rain water and it will spread as well. As I can't achieve this.

@@jamesgavern2084 yeah, it might be a lot of work based on growing zones. I am in zone 5 in the USA, my dawn redwood has grown very slowly for the past two years and is just now starting to look like something. I think I need to change it's pot for better drainage. It may help. I used to want to plant one in my parents yard 🤣

Thank you... 🙏 😔 🙏 Dr. Chan, I must express extreme GRATITUDE, also... You videos, no matter how long, are so full of information, so full.... The small trees in the back,,,, that is the perspective principle (ple) or when two parallel lines meet in the distance, synonyms are Scene or Vista or View.... It amazes me that if we view/see something smaller than "normal" our brain readily treats as a "picture" of some sort or as a "minatute" .... One of my distractions is Drawing/Sketching.... I can't go without a question, sorry.... How tall can a Daw Redwood grow in one year, if left unattended, in a pot?
