This is a quick video on how to clean, lubricate, and maintain your Tama Speed Cobra & Tama Iron Cobra pedals, which will keep them fast and keep them feeling factory new. This demonstration shows how to properly service both the single and double (twin) versions of Tama's high end bass drum pedals.
I'm a gigging drummer, and I noticed after about 6 months of steady playing with my Speed Cobras, that they seemed a little sluggish. They definitely weren't as fast as when I first got them. I learned that like the rest of your drum gear, you have to keep up on the maintenance on your pedals to get the most out of them.
This video will show you the quick and easy way to disassemble, clean, lubricate, and reassemble your newer Tama single and double bass drum pedals to keep them running smooth and fast. I recommend doing this maintenance routine every 3 months to keep your pedals playing at their optimum level. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Probably the best videos I've seen on this in terms of dismantling the pedal, cleaning & reassembly as well as being applicable to the Iron Cobra's - at least the 900 something or other ones. I just took mine apart recently to clean and apply lubrication, as well as putting the rolling cams on. There's a lot of screws and small parts to keep track of but otherwise fairly easy to do. There was a comment questioning the point of cleaning/lubricating - in 8yrs I've done it twice, dust and other tiny particles eventually find their way in, lubricant won't last decades either. Dust etc becomes trapped within the lube which increases friction and degrades the lubricant over time - might be much but it's enough that after cleaning etc the difference is there.

I don't really have any problems with my Speed Cobras, but after lubricating everything up, the slave pedal became noticeably smoother! I sometimes use my left foot as the lead foot, that's why the smoothness of the slave pedal is very important to me. I used a Tama Tune-Up Oil, which i recommend because it's super cheap and it's less "messier" than the oil that you are using. Thanks A LOT man! Really appreciate it! :D

I'd got for bones reds. I have bones swiss on my board. Any okay bearing will be smooth and fast. Once you start to get up to the high end bearings it would be a waste for your pedal. They're made for pro skaters (typically long boarders) that go like 130km down a hill. They're made to withstand the speed and not wear away. Bones ceramics are especially made for That, ceramic bearing balls wear away a lot slower than steel bearing balls. I have reds on one of my other boards as well and they're fine. I havnt tried them on my pedal yet though, but they've got rubber shields so you can lube them up easier. Also for lubes I'd go for oust because bones and ionic flux are very thick lubes. They take a while to warm up and set themselves into the bearing, it would take ages for them to set in on a pedal. Oust is thinner and works well for bearings.

Just got one of these today. Wow they are awesome. I chose them over the dw9000. Mainly because you can't feel these on your feet while playing. The dw 9000 was really good and I loves the response. But they both had their pros and cons. It was a hard decision. Both had their strengths and weaknesses. Too choose between the two is hard.

Appreciate you trying to help people but your actually ruining the pedal. Those are sealed bearings. That lube your spraying on them is getting into the bearing housing and actually removing the grease that’s inside from the factory. All u can do with sealed bearings is replace them but those are very high end bearings that come with this pedal so their lifespan is very long. Cleaning up around the bearings and race’s is fine and even spraying a very small amount of chain lube is fine too but what you just showed people in regards to the bearings will cut their lifespan down dramatically.

When I used to skate I used to take the bearings off my deck and boil them on the stove in water then re-lube them and put them back in the wheels and then put the wheels back on the trucks. We would spin the wheels after boiling and re-lubing them and they would spin far longer than before. Faster quieter and longer duration of spin. We used GMS bearings and when you boiled them some gunk would boil out into the water.

Thank you! It's a great idea to lube the chain as well. I just give it a very light amount of oil / lube because it tends to collect a lot of dirt, debris, and drumstick chips when it's over-oiled.

awesome! I did this on my iron cobra 200 series and am considering upgrading the bearings as I've had 'em for quite a while.. however.. I cant get access to the floating bearing on the slave (far side) as it requires an Allan key. I used to correct size Allan key but it was so tight it rounded off, so I am unable to get access into the bearing unfortunately.. any suggestions? I don't want to upgrade all the other bearings and not that one as it could cause further damage..

Why would you lubricate a sealed bearing? The "grime" your lubricant is "cleaning" is actually grease that's packed into the bearing. Your better off just replacing the bearings.

You're wrong, dust makes it inside -even if they're sealed. You can get away without cleaning, but this video is about making them "faster" To properly re-grease sealed bearings, first flush the old grease with WD-40 (which is the only correct use for that stuff) Then dunk them in some IPA for a few hours. After drying them, use a penetrating spray grease.

I did this with mine and you have to buy extra parts. Yo have to buy the Para Clamp so it will actually attatch to the bass drum hoop. I’ve had problems with my slave pedal not rebounding and being as springy as the master pedal even though I have the beater height, beater angle, and spring tension all setup the same. @jamtime5017
@jamtime5017 2 жыл бұрын
Change the slave tension and use a pull test to see if they bounce together. I like to push the beaters to the bass drum and then release at the same time. You're not going to have them completely bounce consistently together. What are looking for is to get as many as possible. If you can get three or four NSYNC that's good start. Just keep adjusting the best that you can.

Markovicsable It may be because you have an older version Iron Cobra. I believe some of the older models don't have the ability to be taken apart like the newer ones. Some of the cheaper versions of the IC's are built that way too. Is it a new or older pedal?

There is a screw inside the "capsule" with the black plastic ring in the center that you can tighten to make both parts of the drive shaft more solid. The "speed-o-ring" (on both side) also need to be pushed in the direction of the beaters to stop the driveshaft to slide left/right.

Took me a little while to become adjusted to the feel, but now that I have, I'd never go back unless my speed cobras got stolen or somehow broke, I'd have to switch back to my Iron Cobras. Steven Pounsett Well, it took me about a month of using the speed cobras a lot to get adjusted to them. The only real difference between the IC and the SC is the longer foot board on the SC. For me, it just took me a while to find the speed spot on the foot board, but now it gives me no trouble at all. I love the speed cobras, even after using the Iron Cobras for many years. This won't make your pedal any faster because it doesn't change the level of skill you're at as a drummer. It will make the pedal feel smoother.

I lost most of my left eyebrow because a spacer wasn't put in right. That stuff can work fine until some random moment it finds the exact parameters to run the error someone didn't see. .... Don't worry it was an electric longboard. China man copied a board, slapped a cool design, did a good price and took advantage of the pandemic free money. The dude (Chinese dude still) never really tested much like QA such be done, they were after market. But... Apparently not when it comes to wheels. He never tested it or designed it so whoever gave him the files (Chinese is full of companies that copies whatever kinda thing) maybe didn't care Idk. The spacer was too short and I believe something wasn't correct on the bearing either. I don't ride crazy so I do full padding with gloves, 300 helmet (legit worth it), elbows, knees, a jacked that is padded in the chest elbow and back. I think one wheel just randomly got too much pressure and I got insane speed wobble (wasn't going fast maybe 15 tops) I jumped off, did 4 long save jumps to just think "oh shit this is how it ends." blacked out, apparently I got up and rode my board home because I don't remember getting home. I don't remember getting up and all that. Impressive. But ugly scar. The left out parts can really get insane but nobody asked or cares for my story. But yeah I like the speed cobra. Please don't mess up your spacers.

Actually to make that pedal faster it should tossed in a scrap bin and replaced with Trick pro v-1 bigfoots. 😁🙊 Tama speed cobra pedals are low end ...

For $400 more, I'd hope there's some benefit to the Tricks. My Speedcobras have been solid, and I'm very happy with them.

If you're going to act that cocky about having big money to spend, why did you cheap out on the tricks instead of getting czarcie kopyto supremes?
