What I really like about the white is that you made sure to mimic how marble isn't just white stone with black streaks but instead a complex web of crystalized limestone. It really helps add dimension and randomness to it

Thanks! Yeah white marble has a lot of complexity in it and it’s really fun to play with that when painting it

Frankly, the black one looks a hot mess, and I'd experiment with some other colour combos for it, but the white... omg that's such a good result. Genius idea with the masking technique. I must find an application for this.

Short and to the point. Thank you for showing, esp. including the black one instead of just a white.

I've just tried this with rattle cans and gotta say, the bases came out better than I expected. Can imagine that they'd be better with an airbrush, but I'm so happy that this technique was so simple! Thanks a bunch for sharing the tutorial!!

DUUUUDE!!! That’s brilliant! I’ve got some terrain that I wanted to do in a faux marble but didn’t wanna go through the old school way of it because it’s so tedious. Will definitely be using this technique!

Again a great technique, hadn't thought to use it on armour but have some interesting idea's with stencils on top. Googling marble gives some great idea's for colour (I like gold, mottled pattern of med-dark greens on the next layer sort of following the veins and then black (was going to try a couple of thin black layers to try and add depth but got impatient). One thing I found looked great was to do a couple of very smooth coats of the glossiest varnish I could find on the base then add matt pigments over the top in some places and the joints to look like dirt and rubble. The contrast worked oddly well.

That is a great idea! I bet that really sells the crumbling rock look? There’s so many wonderful different types of marbling in rock, it’s fun just having a look to see them all for inspiration!

Get baby wipes. Standard wet wipes are basically wet paper, where wipes ment for babies have that but if stretch to them.

Love this! Question; I'm planning to use this technique on a trophy base, they aren't perfectly flat and have some recessed and raised sections. What would you recommend for securing the stencil tight against the surface? Thanks for your time!!
@SpensPainting
@SpensPainting 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! I’ve found that with awkward areas it helps to try and just spray small sections at a time so that you can try to get the wipe to stay tight. If the recesses are really fine it not really doable but you can use tools like a paper clip to push the wipe firm again whatever it is you’re working on
@bargeryfamily
@bargeryfamily Жыл бұрын
I did a trophy base and it worked really well. I had to go over some local areas around the stepped areas again with white. I pushed the wipe into to the steps, the sticky paint kept it in place.

For someone with no airbrush and not the right colours for a spraycan can this effect be emulated with drybrushing? Or does it just catch the wipe too much?
@SpensPainting
@SpensPainting Жыл бұрын
I think you could use a sponge or stipple with a brush for greater effect than drybrushing
