Genius! I hate masking fluid too! When I started taking watercolor years ago my teacher instructed us in the use of it, that’s all she used, so I thought that’s what I should do! I totally agree with you, I don’t like it at all! Thank you so much for showing me your method it’s much much more fun and I love the results!

Perhaps a harder way of doing sparkling water, than with dry brush, for the inexperienced, but really effective. Cracking painting. Shades of Singer Sargent in Venice ! ( suspect a lot of viewers were thinking 'He's going to forget the top of the dome.' ) !!

@26:00.... Won't dampening the paper create blossoms or blooms? I never can seem to pre wet paper and then go back and paint even later without getting those dreaded things.

Possibly - also based on paper type, thickness, humidity, how atery paint is

Hi Tim - another method to get a shimmering water effect which I don't think you mentioned is to use a craft knife scratched across the water areas of the paper horizontally. Used sparingly I have found it can work quite well and I find I get better control using a fairly chunky craft knife with a good new sharp blade. This method actually removes the pigment back to the white paper underneath in a 'lost and found' manner and can create those 'car headlight' effects. I'd be interested in your thoughts on this method :-)
@TimWilmot

Now I have tried that myself. You have to wait until the paper is dry. i have done when damp with disasterous results
