Today I review 5 practice questions that cover various topics and I apply the SFAREAFI acronym as applicable.
The ASWB Clinical Exam, or the Association of Social Work Boards Clinical Exam, is a test that was made to determine whether or not an individual's level of knowledge of social work in a clinical setting is sufficient. You will have four hours to complete 170 multiple choice questions, including 20 pre-test questions, that test your knowledge in Human Behavior, Diversity Issues, Diagnosis and Assessment, Psychotherapy, Communication, Therapeutic Relationships, Professional Ethics, Clinical Supervision, Practice Evaluation, Service Delivery, and Clinical Practice and Management. To register, you must have at least a Master's degree from a social work program, and two years of clinical social work experience.

These video’s are so helpful. Seeing the reasoning behind “first” steps over others is giving me an idea of what is needed for the exam. The examples are also reminding me of things I had forgotten as well as things I haven’t ever learned.

Nece9988 Well in my case I did have some that resembled the examples he gave, but there were a lot of variances, but his examples and explanations were really helpful even in other questions where the format wasn’t exactly the same all the questions won’t resemble these but the situational questions most likely will. I hope this helps good luck on your test and remember to breathe and stay calm.

assuming that for number 2 he's already had contact with the authorities in regards to murder is kind of ridiculous. that's making a huge assumption, which we're not supposed to do.
@rachelbreger2169

I don’t think it’s making an assumption because you have the information that he’s in a psychiatric hospital. If it said he was in an outpatient clinic, the answer would be different. Since he’s in an inpatient facility there is no duty to warn, plus we need more information regarding that situation anyway...hope that helps!!

This was helpful; Question #1 I was going with just accepting the gift, but after Phil explained the reasoning I was able to understand the answer #c which is the better choice. asking the Client for the reasoning behind the gift

I appreciate your videos Phil! I am not understanding some of the logic behind the answers. Though your explanation for Q1 makes sense, I don't know if I entirely agree. Q2 though I cannot understand the answer. Typically, in any safety question you would need to report. It would be an assumptions that other's know this information already, correct? Though I sometimes have confidence answering your questions, other times I lack it because the understanding is so inconsistent across questions that it is disheartening to me trying to find a system/pattern to identify the correct answer. I hope this makes sense. Again, thanks for your time and these videos!

I'm actually a little confused with question # 1. I thought the answer would have been B because social workers in most situations should not accept gifts from clients. I feel informing the client why it is unethical to accept gift is more important than gathering information of the gift.
@dalilabaied7891
@dalilabaied7891 4 жыл бұрын
What helped me understand this was that in C, he does not DENY the gift, but just gathers nformation before accepting or denying the gift.... Which would be kind of a feelings choice (or assess I guess).
@kekarthurthebastard226
@kekarthurthebastard226 4 жыл бұрын
Dalila Baied i think the assess aspect is because you would be finding more about the set parameters of the clients cognitive process to conclude you where a candidate for the “honor of the coin”. As it is not yet a ethical issue outside common human norms or cultural customs.

What??? I was taught to never, under ANY circumstances accept gifts from clients because it would violate the relationship or whatever, even after termination. So DO I or DONT I? Why are two official sources for the same subject telling me two completely different things???

I came up with one because it was hard for me to remember the letters in order. It goes: (S)ome (F)olks (A)re (R)arely (E)ver (A)ctually (F)unny (I)n my opinion. I couldn't figure out just one word for the letter I so I just know that it stops at the letter I.

#1 would actually be B. You would be breaking confidential information or that you are working with a client to another person with out a consent to release information. Any other answer would be wrong. Never take a gift to give to another person or client on behalf that Client. This is an ethics question not a reasoning question. This is why the ASWB should not be a source to determine if someone is capable of providing LCSW treatment. Multiple people create the questions and multiple people have different opinions, therefor what is right for one question will be wrong for another question. This test needs to be banned. The sad thing is Social workers now tuck there tails between there legs and do what they are told, rather that advocating for ourselves. You can see this by the 100s of jobs for Masters and doctorate level degrees making salaries below fast food high-school kids. We need to advocate! Teachers have done it, Fast food workers have done it, Why cant we? when this is the basis of our whole career!?
@PhilintheGaps
@PhilintheGaps 5 жыл бұрын
I am a little confused by your comment, as #1 is stating that the social worker would decline the gift and ask THE CLIENT behind the meaning of the gift. Therefore, the social worker would not be asking anyone, other than the client about the gift. As social workers, we would not be able to accept any gifts that put a client in a vulnerable spot, and/or that can be viewed as the social worker benefiting from a client in some way. I will agree with you on the fact that this exam requires analysis of clinical situations, which can cause disagreement around answers to them. However, I do not agree that this exam should be banned, since it provides a standard for ethical practice, and gauges a social worker's ability to critically think during a clinical situation. The absence of an exam would allow for any and everyone to practice in our field. As for the salary comment, I am not sure how well versed you are in the current social work advocacy efforts, but multiple social workers, in conjunction with the NASW are advocating currently for salary wage increases. This effort is under the Elevate campaign. I can only speak for myself, but I did not enter this field to make $$, so my salary does not bother me. Again, I am not sure where these comments have come from, but I do appreciate you sharing them. I just do not feel this video will provide much advertisement for your views.
