A stressful process at best. And almost worthless to assess ability. And based on my twenty odd years as an MSW (18 of them completely unlicensed before I got my LCSW) the whole thing is designed to take already broke social workers from their hard earned money.

Today is my first day diving into thinking about and taking the test. My sister recommended your videos. I am hoping they help to prepare me for the LSW exam. I am feeling anxious, but I have told myself I am going to use the first test as a "pre-test", so in case I do not pass, I know I can do it again and go full out now, since I have seen it once already. Thank you for making these videos!

@PhilintheGaps This is a perfect example of why I"m nervous about this exam (next week). Question #4!!! In #4, You say C is the FIRST thing to do; "Recognize the client's willingness to change his behavior." But there's nothing in the question that says the client wants to change, or is willing to change. He mentions a lot of feelings: frustration, care, regret, embarrassment, shame. But he doesn't say "I really want to change," or "I wish I could change.." And he says he's treating his wife the way his father treated his mother. AND.. AND, he throws things!! So he (and his father) may be more violent than he's even saying! So how would you not say FIRST, "Can you tell me more about what you saw in your childhood? And what are you doing that's the same?" "Did your father physically abuse your mother?" "Have you physically hurt your wife?" THEN you can determine next steps, like discussing his willingness to change, etc. And furthermore, you can then determine if he needs to be reported. I don't see how you jump to recognizing something that hasn't been established in the question as presented!

It’s really helpful to see how you break the questions down! I’ve taken the test 3 times and missed by only a couple… I end up getting frustrated with the questions… not understanding what they are asking… definitely implementing this in my 3 month study time!!

I rarely do this, but I gotta give you credit. Your questions are insanely hard, much harder than the exam questions in my experience. I understand why you do it now though. I just passed my clinical exam today and I wanted your viewers to know, if they can get your questions right, passing the test is a breeze! The repetition gets stuck in your head and it was so helpful, too. Keep up the great work! Thank you. @philinthegaps

Hey Phil, I appreciate the energy and content. I think some of these questions do not appropriately delineate the answers. A 45 year old man with a hip replacement would not be eligible for aftercare rehab facilities. It would be private pay at best. If that is the case that should be addressed. To me, it appears more information is needed so checking with the doctor to see if any reasons exist for aftercare eligibility may be the only appropriate option. The social worker needs more information. The answer has to be "assess" or the question needs fine-tuning. I appreciate the work you put in. Just trying to help.

So confused! Someone please help with number 3. EVERY time there is problematic transference in the early stages of therapy, we need to refer out? Then how the heck does anyone treat people with severe borderline who instantly overvalue the therapeutic relationship? Are we just going to pass these clients around from agency to agency forever?

Hi Phil, this was my first time toning and you are absolutely correct. Your question are definitely more difficult but I would not change a single this about them. The way you deconstruct the question and the answers are training me to get out of the way I naturally think (which is a process of its own...lol). Your motivation and the time you take to help us is amazing and very much appreciate. Thank you so much and I can't wait to take my LMSW in August.

I know this is an old video but I'm so confused on #1. I selected C instead of B because they didn't specify the ages of children. We've been told multiple times not to assume or add more to the stem.. Wouldn't we be doing just that if we assume the children are minors? I guess I'm over thinking this, but now I'm so confused. HELP!!
