The ASWB Clinical Exam/Master Exam is a test that was made to determine whether or not an individual's level of knowledge of social work in a clinical setting is sufficient. You will have four hours to complete 170 multiple choice questions, including 20 pre-test questions, that test your knowledge in Human Behavior, Diversity Issues, Diagnosis and Assessment, Psychotherapy, Communication, Therapeutic Relationships, Professional Ethics, Clinical Supervision, Practice Evaluation, Service Delivery, and Clinical Practice and Management. To register, you must have at least a Master's degree from a social work program, and two years of clinical social work experience.

Question 5: I really don’t get why A isn’t correct. It would be SO irresponsible to not assess more on literal death threats. In the real world, I would ask about that FIRST & then do D. I really dont get it 😭

I agree, I really disagree with Phil on this one. Duty to Warn is huge, and I would understand if the threat was several months ago, but two days? With access to means? I just really don't think the test wouldn't have you choose a safety answer to this one.

Hi Phil! I passed my exam for LCSW-C yesterday! I’ve been doing watching your videos throughout this journey of pursing my license. Your motivational talks, especially around failure, fueled and encouraged me! You have such a good spirit and the work you do for the social work community is so important. I took this exam 4 times, each of the times I would have your videos apart of my study routine. A good friend shared your page. But each time i took the exam, I learned what I needed to do differently or that it wasn’t divine timing. This last time I told myself I would take my time and use the time allotted. I told myself to truly apply your strategy and literally heard you voice in my head lol (first, best, next ALL mean the same thing lol). I truly appreciate you and these videos are amazing. Keep doing your thing to bring light to the community! And I’m so pressed I passed 😂

Hey, So another prep coach used that same first question and said that A was the correct choice. There was a very similar question on a mock exam I took where the correct answer was to assess for suicide ideation and the rationale provided is directly counter to your rationale. Is there anyway you can provide some clarification. I very much don’t want to get a question wrong on the test because of this kind of confusion

Hey Phil, I appreciate the energy and content. I think some of these questions do not appropriately delineate the answers. A 45 year old man with a hip replacement would not be eligible for aftercare rehab facilities. It would be private pay at best. If that is the case that should be addressed. To me, it appears more information is needed so checking with the doctor to see if any reasons exist for aftercare eligibility may be the only appropriate option. The social worker needs more information. The answer has to be "assess" or the question needs fine-tuning. I appreciate the work you put in. Just trying to help.

Hi Phil! I have a question regarding that first question on this practice set. If the terminology in your question would’ve said “she is increasingly depressed” rather than episodes, would we have then assessed for suicide risk? I got stumbled on these questions during the ASWB practice because the ones that had suicide assessment as the answer, I didn’t choose because it didn’t explicitly state SI/HI risk factors.

I don't agree with the last question. If the brother wants to kill the mother and even bought a gun to do so, it doesn't matter that it may have been two days ago, the mother is still in danger. If my client were to report this in session and then tomorrow the mother ends up dead because the brother went through with it, that is not liability I want on myself for not properly reporting the danger. Safety can't be glossed over like that, no matter if my client feels overwhelmed or not. But I'm curious what others think.
@PhilintheGaps
@PhilintheGaps Жыл бұрын
I appreciate you rocking with me💛 A few things to keep in mind regarding this question are: 1) Who is your client? The man's brother is not your client and focusing on someone outside of your client without actual evidence there is imminent or foreseeable danger is going to be detrimental 2) I believe you are adding an element of intensified danger that is not there. For example, let's say we call the police, what would you say?? If there is not an actual crime going on at the time of their arrival or there is not evidence a crime is going to occur (let's say he bought the gun legally), then they are gong to leave. 3) When it is a domestic violence situation the victim of domestic violence determines whether or not the authorities need to get involved, because they (the victim) determine whether charges will be pressed or not 4) If someone does not have identifiable plans, means and intent, then there is not a duty to warn. I hope this is helpful 😎

This confused me as well. I understand Phil’s explanation, but I’m confused about the glossing over what was told. So, how I have to look at as, since the brother is not the client we don’t address this threat?
@kiery99
@kiery99 Жыл бұрын
I also disagree with the last question. It's imperative that we ask the client more info- like, "Do you feel safe around your brother since he has now threatened your mother with a gun?" Not asking this question goes against everything we are taught about safety with clients. I would get this answer wrong, and I'm perfectly okay with it. If the client comes in and tells me their Mom was killed later on and we knew there was a threat, that's a huge problem. We live in a world full of gun violence, I take it incredibly serious when someone threatens with a gun. Could care less if its the actual client that was threatened or their family member of friend. It still needs to be explored. 🤷‍♀️

“Jump like a Catholic that got squirted with water”? Seriously? What does that even mean and how is it helpful to understanding the material? Really insulting… I listened to your videos a few times a couple of years ago and liked them. This rapid talking, SHOUTING for no reason and overall different style is not working. The religious jab was the final straw for me.

I am a little confused by your comment. In the video I say "Jump like a CAT that just got squirted with water," aka jumping to conclusions or with impulsivity. Therefore, I would recommend listening again without having such a defensive or negative lens. However, if my videos no longer work for you, then that is alright as well💛💙

@@PhilintheGaps I am very sorry, I listened to it 3 times and kept hearing Catholic, but cat obviously makes far more sense. Thank you for your gracious response to my misguided criticism on that part. You are right, stress and sleep deprivation (newborn at home) probably caused a negative lens. I would have never criticized your style of teaching had I not felt insulted. I really appreciate the kind understanding you gave me. I will continue to enjoy your older videos as they were a great help when I studied for and passed my LMSW. Thank you for all you do 🙂
