Pickled peppers is a fantastic way to preserve homegrown peppers for months of enjoyment. After a monster harvest of jalapeno peppers, Sarah pickles some of them to use with nachos and to mix into homemade goat cheese.

*** About Living Traditions Homestead ***
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

Ooh I hope there's a video of the jalapeno goat cheese recipe mentioned in the description!!! I'm glad I came across this video. I have several varieties of jalapenos and other peppers and I was a bit intimidated at the thought of having to pickle them, but now I see it's actually really simple! Thank you for showing so many homestead tasks and helping new homestead converts like me see that much of these tasks aren't so hard at all!

I’ve been canning about 35 qts of peppers for years, never water bathed them after canning. Just boiled vinegar, water , canning salt and add dried garlic power and dried dill seed to the jars. I use 1:1 ratio vinegar to water. This is how my whole family does it. I know on small batches,people refrigerate for extra safety.

I try to do too much and learning that I cannot do it all. Our weather in Ohio has been just too much. Today at 3pm it was 50 dog right now 4 hours later we have sleet and snow! Yesterday afternoon (6/18/2020) I canned 6 pint jars of jalapeño Peppers from our garden using your method explained in this video. This morning I opened a jar to test them. They taste wonderful, however they are soft and not crisp. Is this normal for water bath method? Does the fermenting method result in crispy peppers? I truly appreciate you input. Thank you.

That sounds like the same basic ratio as the Ball Blue Book for Hot Peppers, the one I've tried in the past is a 50/50 mixture but I did not like it. .Do they taste like the store bought canned/jarred jalapenos? I always let all my peppers get totally ripe before I pick them because from what I've seen, you don't get all the vitamins in the green peppers. Thanks for sharing.

great video. Thank you. How many pepper plants did you plant to get that number of peppers. I am not a fan of hot peppers, but my son in law loves jalapenos. I will definitely try making some of these for him this year. (I only have 3 pepper plants.) Can you pickle whole or 1/2? Would you remove seeds if done that way for eating? One more question, can you use these in salsa?
@Herschel1738
@Herschel1738 6 жыл бұрын
You can pickle whole peppers but poke a few holes in them with a skewer or knife point so the brine can get inside. The more seeds you leave in, the hotter the pickle.

Awesome video Sarah! Jalapeno Peppers is something that I want to grow this coming year. That was a very quick and easy process you used. Does it still retain some crispness to the peppers using this process? I have gotten a lot of pickled peppers from stores in the past and they were on the mushy side. I'm not sure if it was from over cooking or something else. I'm a complete amateur where canning is concerned. All I know is that I love eating Hot Dogs with peppers on them. I spread a layer on the bun and flop a hotdog on top and chow down. I don't need any other fixings. The crispy ones add a burst of fire and flavor with every bite. They are quite addicting. Thanks for sharing.
@LivingTraditionsHomestead
@LivingTraditionsHomestead 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Honestly, any canning process will make most veggies on the mushy side. Pickled carrots and cauliflower aren't so bad. One thing that I haven't tried yet, which is on my list, is fermenting. I've heard that the fermentation process keeps veggies firmer than canning. A friend of mine ferments jalapenos and loves them. I just need to get the courage to try it.

I pickled jalapenos last year and they were tasty but very soft and I like mine crunchy, too. There is a process using pickling lime that is supposed to keep pickles crisp. I haven't tried it yet. You can find it with the pickling supplies. Ball and Mrs Wages make it. An internet search found wild variations in price for Mrs Wages, but this place had a very good price. www.fleetfarm.com

I have just started canning this year, why didn't you put the jars in boiling water to sterilize them and then put in the hot liquid brine? I have seen on Ball's web site that they don't recommend put you lids in hot water anymore, the sealing compound has been changed and it is no longer necessary, am I wrong about this? Thanks appreciate your videos.
