Definitely a good idea using a smaller/normal size tub when mixing. I'm a plasterer myself and mixing smaller gauges means that you always have wet material on the wall/ceiling ahead of you, like rolling mixes. Iv seen so many plasteres mix up huge gauges when they have a big area to do and it goes off on them all at once. Unless you have someone else with you it's always easier to do rolling mixes.

Fair play for laying on that lid, personally I would never let anyone lose on a ceiling over 25m2 no matter how quick they are, just in case they run into iusses. Absolutely No point hitting 50 and ya body is gone..plastering is and always will be a man's job. Pure graft. Really not a fan of Speedskims SS the blades are crap. Drop em and they are good for the bin But each to their own, ya got it done. all the best for 22 bud 🍺

@israeladesanya4596

I prefer to use multi if it does start to go on you, atleast with a bit of water you can bring it back to life. Board finish once it goes it goes.

So you don't necessarily need to mix all your gear in one go? I have a big ceiling to plaster on Monday, 18 square metres and will be trying out your method of two mixes. Slightly nervous but Im trying to get a plan sorted before I finish the prep work. Your advise would. be appreciated. Is it okay to blue grit a ceiling? would this help with the background suction? Thank you very much!
@petergray882
@petergray882 Жыл бұрын
If your unsure you could 50/50 mix of PVA on board ,it will help suction wise or use extra time to hold gear back

Hi mate, Does the retarder cause hairline cracks in the new plaster on the stud walls or ceiling?
@AnthonyParryPlastering
@AnthonyParryPlastering Ай бұрын
@@ibrahimbilal6273 No not normally, movement is what causes cracks and hairline. Plaster once its sets doesn’t move it’s normally what’s behind it does that’s why it cracks.

@@AnthonyParryPlastering and also when using retarder do I need to apply at the end wet trowel as well?
@AnthonyParryPlastering
@AnthonyParryPlastering Ай бұрын
@@ibrahimbilal6273 I would use extra time in the first and second coat just to keep the setting times near. You don’t want the second coat going off quicker than the first coat. But it all depends on suction levels.

Id hate to see how many ripples you have every trowel you went the same way and the same hand I saw no cross trowel
@AnthonyParryPlastering
@AnthonyParryPlastering 3 жыл бұрын
It had none. The key to not having ripples is by trowelling across the direction of the main light source.
@chrispenberthy1230
@chrispenberthy1230 3 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyParryPlastering so as soon as you put a different light in from a different angle that's when it shows also doing it that way is trusting every joist is level with each other witch looking at it its not you should be teaching cross trowel to make sure there not rippels going the same way every time means there will be divites all over and rippels its plastering 101
@AnthonyParryPlastering
@AnthonyParryPlastering 3 жыл бұрын
it’s natural light that shows ripples and and imperfections. Normal lighting doesn’t. Cross trowelling isn’t going to make the ceiling straight when you have joist at different levels. This is why I use a speedskim after the first coat to build out any areas that needs flattening out. I’m a third generation plasterer that’s been Plastering for 22 years. so I have plenty of experience in knowing the pit falls.
