How to play a 2:3:4 Polyrhythm

This is an visualization for how to understand and how to play a 2:3:4 (two against three against four) polyrhythm.
A polyrhythm occurs when two or more rhythms, that are not readily perceived as deriving from one another, play at the same time.

you're right. But I just saw a clip of a 3 4 rhythm and i couldn't get it right. the added 2 really helpt me to get a grip on it

The 2 carries the beat with either a snare (as in the example) or a bass (depending on genre). So it is actually 2-3-4 .. not 3-4.

The bottom circles indicating the moments of the individual numerical hits. Should be at the top where the hits are taking place so we can correlate the strike of the moment the sound and the rhythm. Also possibly only partaker circle when it's hit and have the others invisible until it's their moment to shine. Other than that I love rhythmatic visualizations

I don't see why not just trying it out, see if one is better than the other. Maybe consider changing the hit point to be a white arrow of some sort instead of green circle? bc it's a bit confusing at first

i think it'd be more intuitive if the dot at the top was another color that's not included in the visualization of the rhythms, for example, white. And also move the dots at the bottom to the left of the circle and organize them based on how frequent the sound is. E.g Green dot Purple dot Orange dot

Good points. It’s at least white in the other new videos but somehow this particular video has been way more popular thus far than all my other videos. Maybe this one was simply a good polyrhythm or maybe it was just a fluke. But I guess continuing AB testing features and I might get a better idea over time.

I like the differentiation of tones in this one a lot. I wish a lot of the simpler polyrhythms could be released in a bass + clap format (would prefer longer videos as well, 10:00 would be ideal for practise at different tempos)

i think this video could be a bit misleading for beginners due to the percieved downbeat on the 1 of each bar not landing on the sync/rest point of the polyrhythm, though that doesn't at all make it incorrect or anything. i like the visualization. i guess to make this feedback more constructive i'd suggest maybe (assuming you'll do similar videos to this one in the near future) demonstrating the polyrhythm with several different kick/snare/hat/etc patterns and explicitely informing the viewer that there are essentislly an infinite number of ways to feel, and therefore also to use, this polyrhythm (or any polyrhythm really), as, again, thats my only issue with this otherwise very cool video is that it might mislead beginners into thinking that this groove right here is the sole sound of 2:3:4.

The problem here is the subdivisions ie divide 8 into 3s comes out numerically uneven.

@@Polyrhythms Seems fine to me. It might be dependent on which quality of stream is being delivered by KZfaq to whatever app/browser on their particular device. I'm watching in Chrome in 720p x60fps on an M1 Mac Mini and it works.
