My husband and I met you at the Homestead Festival in Columbia, TN in June. I commented to you then what a beautiful countenance and demeanor you have. You were so gracious and humble and simply said, "I hope it is Jesus that you see." It certainly is....what a humble presentation of a Proverbs 31 woman. I've since subscribed to your channel and appreciate all you are teaching us about living a peaceful, humble homesteading lifestyle. May God bless you as you bless and minister to us!❤

According to the book stocking up it’s a preservation guide by Carol HUPPING, I have my book from the 80s anyway she says that if you keep a rooster your eggs can go bad faster if you water glass because a fertile egg will break down a lot quicker than a non-fertile egg so that’s some thing that I’ll do is lock up my rooster for a month before I try water glassing I hope that info help somebody thank you for your video. Another thing to consider is your nest box it is a pricey expense but the best nest box company makes a great rollaway nest box so the eggs are absolutely perfectly clean with the bloom in tact when they’re laid. I bought one strictly for water glassing reasons.

RE: bad eggs - I learned my lesson - Contrary to how the TV cooks show it, ALWAYS break eggs into a separate bowl first and transfer them from that rather than directly into the batter. AMHIK. Or, like you mention, have a bowl of water available and check them for floaters prior to cracking. Thanks for this very interesting video!!

I like using gallon pickle jars glass, because if you have a failed egg then you’re not losing an entire batch you can fit about 25-30 eggs in a gallon pickle jar plus you can see what’s going on inside the jar. I find it very fulfilling to be able to look at my produce that I’ve saved as well. Amazon sells a 1 gallon glass jar for I think five or six dollars but you can buy a gallon of pickles at Sam’s Club cheaper than that and have the jar and the pickles.

Someone said something about covering glass with foil? I guess they last longer in the dark? Have you had any issues? I am trying out a pickle jar, too. 🙂
@joybickerstaff194

@@tonyatoomey5244 Hello, sounds like Donna does preserve eggs n glass jars, and with her saying she likes to see them just Incase there’s a bad egg, she will see it floating and can remove it before others r affected. With that said, I think I’d prefer to use a thick black cloth to cover the jar, it would be easier to remove/replace than the foil. I do believe Christa mentioned that the eggs needed to remain n a dark place, which is why her crock is of a solid color. People also keep foods n glass jars n cabinets, which keeps it dark, or darker than being left on the counter would be. Hope this helped. Have a wonderful day!

I save all my egg shells as well. I grind it to a fine powder and it is one of the best mineral supplement you can have, not only does it have a great source of calcium but it also have trace minerals manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) ... and it is free! I sift mine after grounding it to powder so they is is extra fine. I put it in my garden as well, and I use it as a shot of electrolytes when my husband or I come back from grocery shopping or after working outside on a hot summer day, or when we are just tired. For my électrolytes mixture I use this following recipe (which I made up, and it works well for a pick me up). 1/8 of a tsp of eggshell powder (94-96% calcium) 1/8 of a tsp of magnesium powder ( I use 1/2 a capsule of my magnesium supplement) 1/8 of a tsp of potassium chloride ( Nu Salt a salt replacement is pure potassium chloride, nothing added) 1/8 of a tsp of sodium ( I use pink Himalayan salt) The way the body works you kind of need one mineral to influence the other in the inside or outside of the cells... so in my opinion (which is just that, my opinion), those 4 electrolytes are essentially taken together. Something much more important than our earthly food is the food of the Spirit and the Gospel of Christ For everyone reading this if you have not yet given your life to Christ, today is the day, don’t wait! Tomorrow is not promised to us... Where you will spend eternity is up to you. Jesus loves you and He is trying to get your attention today and it has absolutely nothing to do with religions or denominations, it has everything to do with having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We have all sinned and we are all in need of a saviour... if you do t have Jesus in your life « Today is the Day » and salvation is easy as ABC. The gospel of Salvation is as easy as ABC A- Acknowledge that we are sinner and in need of a saviour because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom 3:23) There is no one righteous, not even one. (Rom 3:10)The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 6:23) B- Believe with all our hearts that Jesus is Lord and died for our sins, and that God Has raised Him from the dead and given us this free gift so that we could be saved and have eternal life with Him. (Rom 10:9-10) C- Confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord. It is with the heart that one believes and is justified and it is with the mouth that one Confess and is saved. (Rom 10:9-10) All who call on the name of the Lord WILL BE SAVED! (Rom 10:13). Let’s all be the light and the salt of the earth by spreading the gospel of salvation...

Tried waterglassing last spring when we had more eggs than we could use. Used hydrated lime and the same recipe as you said. Did a small batch, a gallon canning jar. Used them after a few months, they were just fine. I've heard the shells with get thinner over time, so I did another batch 5/19/20, in a gallon canning jar, with a canning lid screwed on top. They still look fine, but I will test them in February (8 mos.) to see if the shells have thinned, and how they taste. Gotta get a small crock, though, because getting eggs into and out of a canning jar without breaking them isn't easy!

Wonderful, so well presented. Absolutely lovely. I'm getting ten dozen eggs a week right now. Been pickling, about to start glassing.

I have been wanting a few chickens but we are not quite far enough away from 2 of our neighbors to not cause noise. They would probably say it's fine but I wouldn't feel right. So maybe I'll try and find someone close who sells them. I just found you and am so happy I did. I've gone back to the beginning and started watching your channel from the beginning and am thoroughly enjoying it. God bless you and this old woman with a faulty mind 😉 is going to try and memorize all of Psalm 1. See ya soon!

I love the idea of water glassing! Just revisiting my grand parents generation here on the farm. lol , as I have grown to anyway. I know , no other way as that is how I was raised. I love preserving things like this is glass. We have winter layer birds and they stay pretty constant all throughout the year , save for molting or weather extremes. Then the other birds fill the gap.
